hi! i created this blog because i needed a place to vent as i read the hunger games. currently i’m on the third part of the first one! if you wish so, accompany me in this rollercoaster of emotions!

jan 6: started the second one!

jan 20: started mockingjay!

feb 29: after spending so much time battling with myself bc i got way too attached to the characters and i didn’t want to say goodbye to them i finally gathered the courage and finished mockingjay. (might edit what i just said later but rn i’m just so filled with a mix of emotions and i just- i can’t)

Reading Mockingjay as an adult is extra devastating because. Of course the plucky teenager and her ragtag friends aren't going to sneak into a government building to kill the president with a bow and arrow. That's absolutely ridiculous. It's the kind of thing that's only possible in the kind of propaganda that Coin developed. But she's so good at it that in some ways she tricks the reader into thinking that's the kind of story this is, too--even after 3 books reminding us that pretty much everything that Katniss does the second she volunteers is manipulated by adults pulling strings to make propaganda in some form or another.

everyone likes to talk about how Katniss was oblivious about her feelings for Peeta, but no one talks about how Peeta himself was aswell. like bro was absolutely clueless. Katniss would drop so many hints (unconsciously), that everyone else would pick up on, yet Peeta was like “Oh she’s not inlove with me and probably never will be so it’s no use me being alive because she wouldn’t want to be with me anyway, so i’ll die and then she can finally be happy without being tied down to me” You are both head over heels inlove with eachother like come on now, stop the bullshit.

there's this split second part of the Coin/Snow assassination scene where Katniss is being dragged away and has sort of a blank/shocked look in her eyes but also has the tiniest little smile and I LOVE IT. And of course Donald Sutherland's deranged expression is impeccable so I included that too. <3

I love how both Peeta and Katniss fulfill the void left by their mothers. Peeta’s mother (hate that witch) never believed in him and abused him to the point where Peeta felt like his life was not worthwhile. Nobody ever came to his rescue or prioritized his life over their own. And here comes this beautiful, strong young girl, who does everything in her power to make sure he comes back home. Who adores him so much that she believes he will be such a wonderful father.

Katniss was emotionally abandoned by her mother. She wallowed in starvation and grief, and here came this beautiful, kind-hearted boy. Who took a beating so he could feed her. Who saw the good in her, who took care of her without expectations of returning any favor. His gentle, kind soul touched hers so much that she believed she could be loved and was wonderful. Her absent mother whom she no longer could bear her touch, but when Peeta smoothly comforted her, it reminded her of that maternal touch.

They both fulfill that maternal love left by their mothers. And that is so beautiful for these two kids.

I can't imagine how relieved Peeta felt when Katniss finally agreed to have a child. Not because he wanted one so badly, but because it meant she was no longer waiting for the world to collapse.

i see people constantly breaking down over how hijacked peeta still remembered katniss’s favorite color but i feel that the fact that he gave her a canned lamb stew is a little bit overlooked??? like- despite everything they did to him, his memories from their time in the cave (and maybe more things, but i’m headed in that direction bc in mockingjay katniss specifically thought about when they ate the stew together) during the 74th games were so engraved in his mind that he saw the can, read the label saying “lamb stew” and he thought about how she had enjoyed that dish so much that they ended up deciding to wait an hour to eat another serving back when they were in the arena, so he gave the can to her because he wanted her to have the pleasure of eating her favorite capitol dish once more. i’m incredibly sick.

You know what? I have to say something. There’s a lot of fics that have Katniss and Peeta in the woods, with Katniss teaching him how to do survival stuff and he gets good at it or whatever. And sure, cute, they want to share each others interests, but I cannot keep doing this 😩 some of these fics do this well and cute-ly (not a word I know) but some of them are riding that line of “make the boy less soft.” I cannot tolerate this! Give me a fic where Katniss tries to teach Peeta how to fish and (though he’s polite about it) he’s bored! He doesn’t get it! Give me a fic where she’s like “This is how you skin a rabbit,” and he’s like “Uhh, 😧” Make em laugh about it! “How about you stay my huntress and I stay your safe, well kept, personal baker?” (Wink wink). Please, I’m begging!

So often when a few aid trucks are let in, food is expired. BECAUSE IT WAS FORCED TO SIT FOR MONTHS, or the aid that was sent was bad anyway. Even at its best, the meager so-called "aid" is INSULTING.

these people just wanted to get food for their families, something as basic as flour, one of the things that the very core of humanity is built on, and israel used it as a trap to murder them in cold blood

evil is not enough of a word. there is not a word to describe what they are doing to palestine. they are bleeding her out, they are torturing her and crushing her and hoping that nothing is left to remember her by when they are done. how can anyone stand and watch what is being done with indifference? how can you watch this level of human suffering, this crime against life and feel nothing, do nothing

might not be such a big deal but the fact that finnick lent his rope to katniss in the bunker and to peeta when coin sent him on the mission so they would keep themselves busy tying knots instead of thinking about their trauma is so important to me.

I would just love to know how committing joint suicide was supposed to help Katniss win the Games and go home to Prim and was totally irrelevant to her feelings for a boy she didn’t really care about until like midway through the second book probably.

anyway i finished mockingjay on leap day!! (i’ve never been as serious as i am now when i tell you that i want to take my own life and that this will haunt me for the rest of my days on earth.)
