hey sorry to the 2 people who look at my account in passing for being incredibly inactive but i need to get something off of my chest
i don’t intend to be rude and dismissive towards my luck when it comes to smarts, but i have something to say.
i’ve noticed, again and again, when i score high marks regularly in whatever; maths, sciences, french, history; i am disregarded as a person and as a friend due to others’ suffering self-esteem, and all i have to say is this:
get the fuck over it
in life there are going to be people who are smarter than you, who achieve better than you. if they’re your friend and they rant to you about getting 75% on a test because they usually get 80%+, even when you’ve gotten lower marks, empathise with how they think and see it through their eyes; don’t just block them out because you believe they are unappreciative of their talents and/or intelligence.
constantly i am made the butt of jokes and apathetic dismissals when it comes to the subject of revising, tests and/or just school in general.
this is especially the case when i have a different problem unrelated to my intelligence in a certain subject;
if i am having trouble revising for a specific exam because i cannot concentrate, i am refused help and/or revision guides because i “have it easier” and i “should be able to do it myself”. otherwise, when i make a mistake in class because it’s something i struggle in mentally, i am laughed at and essentially shit on by classmates. this has relentlessly lowered my self-esteem and confidence overall, by the way.
y’all need to get it into your heads, furthermore, that being math-smart or otherwise does NOT in any way relate to other mental conditions. you can be adhd and score high in tests, despite not having the patience to revise. you can be dyslexic and score high on an english paper, despite relentlessly getting things muddled up in your head and in writing.
and finally, i’d like to reiterate: get over yourself. because people with ‘smarts’ have feelings too, and especially don’t enjoy being the runt of the group because they ‘can’t relate’ to your struggles in academic subjects or otherwise.
this has been a rant, by me.
