Okay, I'll go and visit your doll collecting friend IF you can promise me that the dolls aren't secretly people. Don't laugh, I'm not being ridiculous. This is the fourth friend with dolls we've visited and they always turn out to be people. I'm not exaggerating! There was the little kid who shrunk people down and put them in her dollhouse, there was the old woman with the porcelain doll collection that were all haunted with the spirits of dead people, there was your cousin whose action figures came to life -- yes that last one counts! I don't care if the action figures weren't previously human, coming to life as thinking feeling beings makes them people!
Honestly this is getting to be a bit much. If the dolls are gonna be people again, tell me. I'm starting to think I'm not ready for this level of friend visitation commitment. I'm beginning to regret starting to date you so soon after my previous boyfriend mysteriously disappeared on the very day that you started your funko pop collection.
The Stranger
Just saw the Hadestown proshot and first, it was phenomenal. Second, not seeing nearly enough talk about Patrick's performance in The Boot.
I was fortunate enough to see a production on stage first and Hades is usually played with a sort of strong, straight-backed, sturdy posturing. Then this is played for the reversal in his dance with Persephone as he becomes loose in his movements, soft in his gestures. It's a great performance, but both would be so hard to perform with any confidence or grace in a boot.
So Page didn't try to copy his old style of playing the role! He adapted the whole performance to utilize the boot and the cane. His movements became more serpentine to avoid pressure on his leg, and he skulked about the stage, using the cane (with a dog head handle, fantastic detail) both for stability and as a way to gesture and bring emphasis to his movements. He does not appear infirm, instead he appears partially robotic, a cold man becoming something less "human" over the years. It made him seem far MORE threatening in some scenes I would argue, as it changed his whole body language into something strange and unfamiliar, the position of the boot holding his leg in a way that made me think of werewolves.
And then, in the emotional turn, instead of making him a graceful dancer, he does suddenly look more infirm. This isn't the King of Iron, this is an old man that has worked himself so hard for so long, to the point of self-destruction, trying to protect things he was losing in the process. He is hurt, he isn't as fast as he once was, but he tries to match his wife's dance, hobbling through the steps. She tearfully holds his hand and dances around him, goes slow, so happy to be able to connect with him again, to love each other again. She accommodates his limitations, it doesn't matter that he's not what he once was, they can be something new together.
I just adored this production, this different way of portraying the character. The flexibility of the production to make sure Page could be in it if he wanted is admirable and I'm so happy they did. I could gush for hours about how well done this was.
Mr. Gates i miss you. Mr. Gates i think about you at work. Come save me Hal i know you could. Can you be a father figure to me please. Perhaps feed me soup. please.

Essos Infographic: Dothraki
"The Dothraki people are a culture of nomadic warriors in Essos who range across the vast grasslands of the Dothraki seain hordes known as khalasars. People of the Seven Kingdoms and the Free Citiesalso refer to the Dothraki as horselords.
Dothraki typically have copper-toned skin, black hair, and black, almond-shaped eyes.Dothraki men wear their hair in long braids, oiled or greased with fat from the rendering pits.Dothraki warriors carry small bells in their braids, which ring softly when they move. They are only allowed to braid their hair after they have won a victory. A bell is added to their braid after each victory; The braid is only cut when a Dothraki warrior is defeated in battle, an act through which he lets the world know his shame. Only few men die with their braids never having been cut off.Men further might wear metal rings bound in their mustachios.
Both men and women might wear painted leather vests over bare chests and horsehair leggings cinched by bronzemedallion belts, although wealthier Dothraki might also have silver and golden medallions on their belts. Others might wear sandsilk trousers. For footwear Dothraki wear leather boots, leather sandals which lace up to the knee, or sandals of woven grass." - A Wiki of Ice and Fire (https://awoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/Dothraki)

[Video description: a short clip from 'The Lighthouse' (2019) in which Robert Pattinson's character spits out a mouthful of alcohol, sets down the bottle, and begins a drunken jig to the chorus of TaTu's 'All The Things She Said.' As the camera pulls in on his face, the jig becomes increasingly wild and frenzied. End description.]
age of sail tracy chapman: you've got a fast ship
we need fewer songs about falling in love and breaking up and MORE songs about famous disasters of the sea
being told you’d cruise the seas for american gold you’d fire no guns, shed no tears, now you’re a broken man on a halifax pier might not be a universal experience, but like neither is the club. so a little perspective might be nice
A collection of Disco Elysium quotes.
(Speaking of Disco Elysium things, come take a look at my Kickstarter!)
my controversial opinion is I don’t think Zuko was confused by “my first girlfriend turned into the moon”
he was there during siege of the North. he infiltrated the spirit oasis. he has an uncle who studies spirits and the spirit world. he watched the sky go dark then the moon suddenly reappear like everyone else in the entire world did. and most importantly he watched zhao get eaten by a giant godzilla fish spirit.
his entire life since he saw that beam of blue-white light in the south pole has been ‘this day has already been so goddamn weird’
The only really new information was that that was Sokka’s girlfriend
Important opinion in the tags that I need to have be part of the post:
Also, Iroh was there? He literally watched Sokka make out with the moon spirit. And you want to tell me that a romantic sap like him would not have immediately told Zuko about this romantic tragedy? Please, Zuko has known about this for ages, he just knows that this is not an acceptable situation in which to say “yeah, I know.”
Sokka: “My girlfriend turned into the moon.”
Zuko: “I know.” “Yes.” “She sure did.” “Uh huh.” “Tell me something new.” “Are we still talking about that?” “That’s rough, buddy.”
[image: tags by samwisethebold: #it’s not that he doesn’t get what sokka means #it’s that how on earth do you respond to that]
When you put it like that, this is actually a legendary display of tact on Zuko’s part
pretty sure i'm not the first one to draw her like this but it was still fun
