saw a tiktok of a mother taking her very tiny daughter to an art museum and she’s just walking around going “whoooa” “woooaah” to everything but then they got to a marble statue of a nude woman lying on her back and the girl points and goes “mommy🫵” and i just immediately welled up with tears and all the comments are just laughing about it and of course it’s funny but how are you not insanely moved by the way art connects everyone on earth from a centuries-old sculptor to a toddler in 2023

Ladies and gentlemen. If we cannot debate that which troubles our society, and more importantly troubles our government, then we cannot, in all honesty, call ourselves a democracy. If we cannot question our leaders as they embark on what has been called an illegal military action, an action publicly opposed by the United States government and the countries of the United Nations Security Council; if we cannot reasonably and intelligently query about the rightness of an action that appears at heart to be deceitful, then we are not a free—
When we first met, you couldn’t even knot your tie straight. You’d never tried an oyster. Personally not much of a loss. Been to the theatre. Read Woolf or Wilde. I did that. It’s what you do for someone when you believe in them.

We really should be having more public discourse about Mental illinois.
[ID: Top image, screencapped from somewhere, reading “you have mental illinois” signed Anonymous. Response image below it is a hashtag from tumblr user porch-gremlin, reading “i am in missouri”.]

Wilfred Owen, in a letter to Siegfried Sassoon
“As for Wilfred O., his unaliveness will never be anything but what it was at the end of 1918 – a dead loss – magnificent though his remains are. With him as a guide, I might have become a better poet. And what he left unwritten doesn’t bear thinking of.”
— Siegfried Sassoon to Edmund Blunden, 16 June 1953
Mad to think I could write anything better than a baking powder advertisement. This has dampened any spark of ambition. I shall never write another story again.
