Tools & Materials: are priced as a luxury

Working Hours: have expanded to take up a lot of people’s whole day and weekends

Wages: have stagnated so that everyone has to work full time

Also boomers over-report their own competence, and millennials under-report their own competence…

Most these survey’s rely on self reporting data… They’re not going to give you an evaluation or test, and I would be interested in the results where/if they did.

Millennials by virtue of being willing to look things up and learn might in fact be more competent at DIY than their parents, and the survey results would still claim the opposite.

I have SEEN some of the work boomers just *do* and think is perfectly fine and up to standards.

This one might be a confidence thing guys.

Boomers literally were taught that showing up, being willing to do the work, and acting confident about your ability to, was all you actually needed to get employed and *do* a job. Whether or not you had any actual training or experience.

All I have ever heard from them is “what’s on your resume doesn’t matter, just show up and show that you are willing and eager to work!1!” Like buddy, that’s not how jobs are dealt out anymore. People want to see that you are qualified on paper first, and we have internalized that mindset, that we have to prove our credentials on paper or we aren’t, and shouldn’t be, considered qualified.
