this genuinely is one of my favorite things in the world
i think what i love so much about this is the fact that this is katara at her “worst” and how zuko is doing nothing but supporting her and letting her feel.
when i say worst, i mean very very very surface level. she is at her most vulnerable. she is actively angry and upset and letting zuko in to a part of herself she has protected for years. she is being very brave for allowing someone she considered an enemy into a side of her so raw.
i’m not sure how to word this right. but katara is vulnerable, yet powerful. in this episode. she’s powered by her rightful fury of the unjust murder of her mother that she witnessed. that is what is keeping her going; not any rest or food.
but her trusting zuko enough subconsciously to let him into this very delicate part of her life is so beautiful to me.
i think she allows herself to do that because he’s expressed in the past that he has also lost his mother. in the back of her head, she knows that he knows how she feels. i guess she feels safe enough to do so, even before having forgiven him.
and, clearly, he cares enough since he stayed up all night for her and is the one helping her find her mothers murderer. he didn’t have to do all of that, but he did.
he doesn’t tell her what to do, or influence her actions in any way. he simply gives her the information on who and where her mothers murderer is, helps her formulate a proper plan, and delivers her there. he lets her do what she wants, what she determines is best. giving her the agency she’s never had before.
i don’t know if any of this made sense, just me waffling bc i can’t sleep. but something about this scene really resonates with me . maybe when my brain is working better ill be able to word it but yes
