dark beach boys
it wouldn’t be nice
Actually the history of the Beach Boys is pretty dark.
Like Brian Wilson, who for a very long time was the main creative force behind their music, was dealing with trying to make an abusive dad proud (their dad, Murray Wilson was their manager for a time, and he was super controlling and insecure), please everyone in the band, and also dealing internally with possibly having a mental illness or two. Then later in his life during the recordings of Pet Sounds and the Smile recordings, he dealt aith alcohol and drug abuse which resulted in him losing his famed falsetto.
Or his brother, Dennis, who was the “hot” boy in the band who had dealings with Charles Manson (before the murders), like he fixed up a Manson song and released it as a Beach Boys song which pissed Manson off. He also dealt with drug and alcohol abuse, illegal drag racing, and he ended up dying young and destitute. Like in the documentary “Dennis Wilson: the Real Beach Boy” there are interviews with a lot of close friends and associates of Dennis who talked about how his addiction had gotten to a point where they felt they couldn’t help him. He later drowned in the marina where his old boat used to be anchored.
And those are just a handful and a quick rundown of how dark the history of the Beach Boys is. While they’re are also a lot of really funny and sweet stories, there was also a lot of sadness. Especially when you actually listen to a lot of the songs on their album “Today!”, which is regarded as being the first album for them that was incredibly personal for Brian. And you can hear it in their later works as well.
/tldr: Beach Boys is actually pretty dark and sad.

i just had the funniest experience in vr chat, i joined a random server and the one i joined had Japanese people so i waddled around in my goofy club penguin avatar that i have saved, after a while a guy walks up to me and clones my avatar so were both penguins then another guy shows up and clone my avatar
now keep in mind there only speaking Japanese i don’t know what they are saying, then another guy joins in, so i got a group of three penguin friends
we just waddle around and goof about, the one of them tries to talk to me, but not only do i not have a mic i also don’t speak Japanese, they figure out i don’t speak Japanese and start listing various places, they get the part of being European right, and after listing a lot of places they ask if im from the UK and when i nod they all just start cheering. after hanging out for a while one of them gets real close to me and whispers…

reminder what an “animal” is
Not only do I run into people who think insects and other arthropods don’t qualify as animals, I run into people who know that they’re “technically” animals but they’re of the “opinion” they shouldn’t be. What are people actually judging by here, though? Intelligence? Because there are definitely vertebrates like us with barely more brainpower than a cockroach, and then there are invertebrates like octopuses, as genetically distant from us as a cockroach but intelligent enough to learn people’s faces and solve puzzles. Are they going by anatomy? That an arthropod is supposedly just “too different” physically to be lumped with us as animals? Let me show those folks something:
Here’s the animal kingdom. The giant pale blue is all the arthropods, the insects and spiders and crabs and things. The pale green sliver is the chordata, which contains just three groups. One of those three groups is the vertebrata, literally every single animal with a skeleton: humans, horses, eels, owls, snakes, frogs, all the things people apparently think are “real” animals. One of the other three types of chordata, your closest possible cousins, are these things, the lancelets:
Just like you, they have a notochord, which during embryonic development becomes your spinal column.
The third kind of chordate, and actually even closer to you genetically than a lancelet, is a tunicate, and here’s an example of one kind of tunicate:
This is a colony of several thousand little bags with mouths and anuses and virtually no other organs. As larvae, they resemble tadpoles and also have a notochord like you once did in the womb, but then they absorb it as they mature. These are our nearest cousins on the planet.
Now unlike the mature tunicate, an insect is a creature with a clearly defined head, jaws, legs, feet, eyes, a complete brain, practically anthropomorphic compared to those bags of filter-feeding jelly, yet it’s the bags of filter feeding jelly that share an immediate ancestor with you. If “bugs” are too weird to be animals then what the hell are we? Basically if you’re going to say an insect shouldn’t be considered an animal, you may as well say a cactus shouldn’t be considered a plant because it looks funny.
The fact that nobody is talking about Secret’s new commercials pisses me off
This makes me so happy ☺️
Yesssss😭 I damn near cried
I LOVE THIS OMFG
YOOOOOOOOOOO THATS AMAZING!!!!!
Can someone help me understand I wanna cry to ..I feel something went over my head
The woman in the bathroom is trans and is scared that if she comes out of the stall the women that walked in will insult or harass her. but when she comes out they compliment her on her dress instead. The add ends with saying “stress tested for women.” It means Secret is including trans women in their definition of women.
I have reblogged this three times now, each one mentioning the fact that Secret not only included a trans woman, but that they /had the other women compliment her dress and treat her with respect/. I will reblog this every time I see it because it’s so important. More companies should involve trans people in their marketing - we do exist. Props to Secret for getting in on this movement. It makes me really happy to see more of the trans community represented in daily television.

The Supreme Council for Media Regulation (SCMR) has released an order to ban all forms of support towards the LGBT community on Media outlets.
Head of the SCMR Makram Mohamed said in a statement that homosexuality is a ‘shameful disease’ and shouldn’t be promoted on media. It further added that homosexuals should not be allowed to integrate unless they receive treatment in order to maintain public morality.
Additionally, they should only appear on media outlets to repent and admit that it is an unacceptable behavior. Mohamed continued in his statement that this decision does not mean turning a blind eye on the ‘disease’, but rather encourage its treatment. He said that this is where the role of media emerges, as it should shed light on the dangers of homosexuality and not on the supporters who try to validate these acts and promote them as basic human rights.
Mohamed went on to say that what western cultures are calling for and trying to normalize cannot be applied in Egypt because the latter has a different set of social and religious basis.
In response, international rights organization Human Rights Watch (HRW) called on Egypt to stop arresting and harassing homosexuals.
A controversy over homosexuality has recently surfaced in Egypt after rainbow flags had been raised in the concert of the Lebanese rock band Mashrou’ Leila.
Police arrested seven concert-goers, on charges of inciting ‘debauchery’, after they raised a rainbow flag; they will also be subject to anal examinations.
Moreover, the Syndicate of Musical Professions banned Mashrou’ Leila from performing in Egypt.
Earlier in April, President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi issued a decree to establish three new bodies to regulate the work of the media in Egypt.
The three bodies are the Supreme Council for Media Regulation (SCMR), National Press Authority (NPA) and the National Media Authority (NMA).
The SCMR has been formed to regulate media and press affairs.
“The Egyptian authorities have arrested 22 people over the past three days alone, stepping up a campaign of persecution against LGBTI people in the country which began after a rainbow flag was displayed at a Mashrou’ Leila concert in Cairo provoking a public outcry, Amnesty International said today.
The arrests bring the total number of people who have been detained based on their perceived sexual orientation to 33 - 32 men and one woman - since the Public Prosecutor announced an investigation into the rainbow flag “incident” on 25 September. The Forensic Medical Authority has carried out anal examinations on at least five of those arrested.
“In a matter of days the Egyptian security forces have rounded up dozens of people and carried out five anal examinations signalling a sharp escalation in the authorities’ efforts to persecute and intimidate members of the LGBTI community following the rainbow flag incident,” said Najia Bounaim, North Africa Campaigns Director at Amnesty International.
“Forced anal examinations are tantamount to torture – there is no scientific basis for such tests and they cannot be justified under any circumstances.
“The scale of the latest arrests highlights how dangerously entrenched homophobia is within the country. Instead of stepping up arrests and carrying out anal examinations, the authorities must urgently halt this ruthless crackdown and release all those arrested immediately and unconditionally.”
All 33 people detained are facing prosecutor interrogations and significantly expedited trial proceedings.
According to the Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights, at least 10 people were arrested between 28 and 30 September and put on trial yesterday, alongside another six who were arrested earlier in the week. The verdict in the trial of all 16 men has been scheduled for 29 October.
On 1 October one man was detained in the Mediterranean port city of Damietta in relation to the rainbow flag incident. Six further people were also detained in Cairo in the last 48 hours for promoting “habitual debauchery” through online dating applications and four further arrests took place from a flat in Giza, also in the last 48 hours.
The authorities also detained one woman suspected of raising the rainbow flag at the concert. She has been charged with “promoting sexual deviancy” and “habitual debauchery” in the first such incident involving a woman in years.
The Egyptian authorities’ announcement that they are investigating the rainbow flag incident as a criminal act is utterly absurd. No one should be punished for expressing solidarity with LGBTI individuals or based on their perceived sexual orientation,” said Najia Bounaim.
“This is the worst crackdown against people based on their perceived sexual orientation since the mass arrests of 52 people following a raid on the Queen Boat, a floating nightclub on the Nile, in 2001.”
Amnesty International is calling on the authorities to immediately and unconditionally release the 33 who have been detained and halt all plans to carry out further anal examinations. Such tests violate the prohibition against torture and other ill-treatment under international law.
Background on last week’s arrests
On 23 September, a day after the Mashrou’ Leila concert in Cairo, a 19-year-old man was arrested on charges of “debauchery”. He was sentenced last week to six years in prison, followed by six years of probation.
Two other men who were arrested last week are currently detained in Agouza police station in Cairo and are due to stand trial on 11 October. Another two men were arrested on 28 September and are detained in Dokki police station in Cairo. ” Amnesty
