Last night (12/26/2021) Archbishop Desmond Tutu passed away at the age of 90.
In 1986 Tutu was elected the first black Archbishop of Cape Town, making him the first black head of the Anglican Church in South Africa. He became a clarion voice against apartheid, second only to his friend Nelson Mandela in importance in ending it. He won the Nobel Peace Prize for his fight against apartheid. In retirement Tutu continued his work for justice, speaking for non-violent resistance and reconciliation. He was chair of South Africa's post-apartheid Truth and Reconciliation Commission. In the early 2000s Tutu became one of the first and most prominent pro-LGBT voices with-in Christian circles. His championing of gay rights was a factor in South Africa embracing gay marriage in 2006.

There is a book, a coffee mug and a laptop in front of them, all of the items are blue. There is a white border around the entire picture with the caption "Taking care of yourself is productive". The caption is written in cursive.]

here is a sweet story for you all:
the first time I saw my grandmother after coming out and starting HRT she said “here he comes” as I stepped out of the car and then started jumping up and down saying “he! he!! I’m going to remember!!” I started to say hello and she goes “oh! your voice!! wait, let me hear you say something” I say “hi grandmother” and she smiles really big and says “oh… that is a miracle :-)”
the moral of the story is that sometimes coming out is awesome and my grandmother rules. happy pride ✨
so can we start hunting down white liberals now or what
The full picture is even more heart breaking after you open the uncropped version. Just a heads-up, it's rough
“The Roman Catholic Parish in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan was just grafitted.”
Nah let’s post it. Let’s feel it. Don’t look away.
I notice alot of my followers on here skipping these posts just to mess with my lgbt ones, suspiciously the white popular ones.
Heres a not so friendly reminder, as an lgbt metis person, i dont give a single fuck what your blog is themed or if this is too painful for you to look at. Reblog this post. Reblog this post with the sources of the 751 children who were found.
Your compliance and silence as well as the compliance and silence of your ancestors is what allowed these schools to open and kill first nations children. The children of MY people.
Dont follow me if you cant reblog this post or the one with sources to your political blog or your most popular blog. Add trigger warnings if you must but if your political blog is only focused on the harms you personally face like being lgbt then you need to see some bigger pictures and stop being afraid of angering your racist mutural or actually saying some shit about racism. If you can reblog some antifa graphics or add blm to your bio to be a surface level ally, you can reblog some sources on the genocide first nations people faced and still face today.
They were CHILDREN.
They were murdered in cold blood.
Dormant Predators
This is why I have this. Even if they can get the lock opened they can’t push the door open. Got it at Lowes for $20.
reblog for that last bit to save a life
If you’re like me and have a large gap under your front door (someone could take a stick and just poke the leaning stick style door jam out), I recommend the Addalock. It’s small, perfect for traveling, and this lock is CRAZY. It’s so simple but the door does not move.
You can’t see it from the other side, either. It also cost about $20, and I can’t recommend it enough. Easy to travel with, too! Great for Air BnBs!
That’s why I have these on my doors. They get drilled into the side and once its flipped over the door nothing is getting it open. Not the door being unlocked nothing, I’ve unlocked the door and pulled and pushed as hard as I could and it didn’t budge. When I go on a trip this is what I use and when I’m home I leave it on too. No one is getting in here.
Okay I know that it is necessary for many but what do you do if you need medical attention and you’re not able to open the door from the inside? Can the fire department get through these at least?
Yes. The fire department can and will break down your door if necessary, it’s one of the reasons they have axes; it’s entirely possible for door frames to melt/expand/seize or otherwise become unopenable during a house fire but the door itself can be hacked down. Or the window. In rare cases, the wall. Firefighters don’t fuck around with collateral damage when lives are at stake.
Sharing for all the safety items!!
Informative. Please share!
“Firefighters don’t fuck around with collateral damage when lives are at stake.” reminds me of the latest episode of fascinating horror where they convered an incident of an ice cream parlor fire and fire trucks just plowed through a nearby fence to get there and save children
They literally do not care
Opening my mind to the unusual, unexpected and the unknown,
Remembering the original, authentic language of my soul.
remember in School of Rock where the black girl was afraid to say she wanted to be a singer because she was fat and didn’t want to get laughed at but Dewey was all “who gives a shit, I’m fat too and so is aretha franklin but we’re still valuable and we rock” and then the girl felt better without having to be told that beauty comes in all sizes or some other bullshit. thats the kind of body positivity I’m looking for. tell these babies that they’re worth a damn without tying it to any other arbitrary ideals
Two Spirits are transcendent Indigenous lesbians are lovely Indigenous gay people are glorious Indigenous bisexual people are breathtaking Indigenous transgender people are terrific Indigenous nonbinary people are incredible Indigenous intersex people are perfect Indigenous pan people are astonishing Indigenous ace people are amazing Indigenous LGBT+ people are important members in the community
Happy Pride month to all LGBT+ Indigenous people, from a 2S nonbinary bi woman! ❤🧡💛💚💙💜
Being LGBT+ and Indigenous at the same time can feel very lonely and isolating at times, people tend to forget we are here and when we’re remembered it’s often as an afterthought. It can be difficult to find more people you can relate to, especially because the community can sometimes feel unsafe or unwelcoming due to racism
As lonely as it can be and as unwelcoming the community can feel, you are, and always will be, important and loved and appreciated members in the community ♥
