This is the best ad for Project Hail Mary I have ever seen. Like if I was on the fence about watching or reading it, this would convince me to do so.

the thing about capitalism is that at a certain point a product reaches its maximum audience and cant really be improved (at least not while remaining profitable), but capitalism requires a product provide infinite growth, and at that point the only way to increase profits is to raise prices, cut corners, and in the case of services start adding advertisements. this is just how the system works.
Rent-seeking is the act of growing one's existing wealth by manipulating the social or political environment without creating new wealth.[1] Rent-seeking activities have negative effects on the rest of society. They result in reduced economic efficiency through misallocation of resources, reduced wealth creation, lost government revenue, heightened income inequality,[2][3] risk of growing political bribery, and potential national decline.
The actual economic term for this parasitic behavior is "Rent Seeking", as in "charging you rent for things that didn't used to cost money just because we can."
"The classic example of rent-seeking, according to Robert Shiller, is that of a property owner who installs a chain across a river that flows through their land and then hires a collector to charge passing boats a fee to lower the chain. There is nothing productive about the chain or the collector, nor do passing boats get anything in return. The owner has made no improvements to the river and is not adding value in any way, directly or indirectly, except for themselves. All they are doing is finding a way to obtain money from something that used to be free." obtain money links to the wikipedia article for Parasitism which might be the most brutal diss I've ever seen on wikipedia ever
puttering around the house is an underrated form a self-care. make some tea or coffee. put on a podcast. sort the mail. tidy some pillows and fold some blankets. start the laundry. thaw some soup. just casually wander around aimlessly doing little things to make your space and life a little nicer. who cares if you get distracted or only do a little. you aren't being productive. you're puttering.
My life has gotten measurably better since I reframed the period from 3-4 pm as “puttering hour”. No it’s not me avoiding work or failing to force myself to concentrate during my mid afternoon slump. It’s puttering hour.
#Make Racists Scared Again 2026
Share if you want people to know they should be scared to be racist around you 👊🏾
"making them afraid will make them more racist" that's wild to me, because we live in a whole culture of social consequences for antiracism anyway. It is literally safer to be a racist than it is to speak up against it, socially.
Idk about you, but "I'm afraid no one will want to be my friend if I'm a white supremacist" seems like a pretty logical thought process to have, and I wish THAT were the normal and not "I'm afraid my friends will hate me if I tell them they made racist jokes".
sometimes racists aren’t even aware that they’re racist tho
I had a more intellectual answer for you, but tbh... Then I guess they'll find out. And when they do, they have two options: apologize and actively commit to doing better, or understand that they are choosing racism and will be treated as such. Because the society we live in, somehow option number 2 is the easier route due to a lack of social consequences for being a bigot. I don't think choosing to be a bigot should be the easier route. It should suck to be a racist.
I want a Steddie fanfiction where after a while, they decide they don't wanna hide hide they're together to anyone anymore, because Eddie grew up knowing two of Wayne's friends that are basically married and that people got tired of judgin.
Where Eddie's got to see that and he knows, just as that couple, that he's got a good entourage and it would be alright.
Where Steve believes in them enough to trust him, to go through the hardship of the first years, until people stop commenting on it.
Until they just get to be normal because everyone knows about it and either they don't care anymore or they learned to deal with it.
Until they become 'that couple of queers' that live in forest hill, that are 'sinners' yeah, but Eddie is the best mechanic in town if you want a recommendation, and Steve is a sweetheart, always ready to help anyone in a pinch as long as you ask kindly and with a smile.
Where they get to be proud.
And once the bill is passed, they're the first gay couple to get married in Indiana, where not only the upside down crew is invited but also all the friends they made along the way.
my random steddie thought of the day:
what if: high school steddie, where Eddie is all too aware of the social hierarchy of Hawkins High and his standing in it—the lowest of the low—versus a Steve who either doesn't know or doesn't care. Eddie knows he's at the bottom of the food chain. Knows he's the first to eat shit when some jocks are hungering for some violence. Knows he's about as good as the dirt on their shoes, as far as they're concerned. And at the top of that mountain, just about the other side of the world, really, is Steve Harrington. Steve "The Hair" Harrington. King Steve. Double Team Captain. Mister Harrington Charm. They shouldn't EVER interact. It's against the laws of nature, or some shit, Eddie's sure. Which is probably why it seems like the world's imploding when Steve "The Hair" Harrington—Mister Harrington Charm, Double Team Captain, whatever the fuck else Gareth has on his endless list—asks him to prom.
Ok old hyperfixation coming back but does anyone know any good steddie fanfics
My favorite fics when this hyperfixation was peak were the ones by outofmygourd on ao3 they felt very in character
It’s finally happened.
After almost a decade on this site, I found another Tumblr user in the wild. I stopped to tie my shoe with rainbow laces this morning outside the silversmith at Colonial Williamsburg, and I heard it.
“I like your shoelaces.”
Oh. Oh no.
I responded the only way I could. “Thanks.” And then I reluctantly added, “I stole them from the president…and if that makes sense to you, I’m very sorry.”
The poor man, in full Colonial dress, stared at me for a long moment. And then burst into laughter. And said, “I haven’t thought about that in YEARS and this has never happened to me before.”
Yeah. Me neither. Not until today.
Tumblr rite of passage. Achievement unlocked.
@victoriansecret I found your friend!!!
(me ever since I was 12) okay I actually need to get it together now
I was born in 2003 is that normal
literally no
do you guys ever like forget you’re interested in something until you start engaging with it again and you go “oh wait i’m like crazy crazy about this yeah”
“I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy” I would, next
the change from AD to CE feels really emblematic of how surface-level and meaningless the supposed secularization of the western world is
Common Era is definitely preferable over Anno Domini, if only because christ is no lord of mine, but it’s only less christianocentric in that it doesn’t overtly make reference to christ in its title. the benchmark is still the same. you’re still measuring when the common era began using the (supposed) birth of christ, separating history into “the period before jesus” and “the period after jesus”. this conception of history is no less defined by christianity than it was before, except that now it’s easier to ignore because you’ve draped it in a “secular”, “modern” veneer and done nothing to actually unpack the ways in which western society intrinsically centers christianity.
Okay now I need a point in history that could be a benchmark to start counting the years from, and would be a common point for most of the world
What year would it be today?
UTC
Coordinated Universal Time.
The system by which every computer in existence now keeps count of the passing seconds.
And I mean that literally. To a computer system "now" is a number that represents the total number ov seconds that have passed since midnight on the 1st of January, 1960.
1960/01/01 00:00:01 is literally the beginning of time as far as a computer is concerned.
This would be the year 66UTC
I like this idea but if we changed it now then next year would be the year 67 which would make a lot of people angry
they should invent a body that feels normal to be inside of
