i don't really want to weight in on the "using big words in your writing is ableist" discourse happening on tiktok because i'm like 90% certain it's an anti-intellectual psyop to stir up drama in online circles to promote the use of ai to summarize literally everything and thus feeding the LLMs and lowering the populace's mistrust of such tools but i also have to say: dictionaries and thesauruses are the most accessible they've ever been. if you use an e-reader of any kind you can look up a word without leaving the page. there's a plethora of online dictionaries and if you just type a word + "meaning" into google it'll usually give you a definition. we used to have pocket dictionaries we used when reading in class. i have two on my shelf right now that i used in high school. stop letting the fascists purposefully misuse anti-ableism rhetoric to trick you into never thinking again.

I miss when ads were a single click and then they’re gone. Now every ad has a minimum of three phases where you watch a video, exit the still frame of fake gameplay, and then exit the app download. That doesn’t even touch on the ones that forcibly take you to another app after opening a tab in safari without you ever touching the screen.

The writers decided to have Aang kiss Katara without her consent, have their next on screen interaction be an argument. Have them not interact again for the rest of the show until the very final scene. And in between this, have Katara show very little care or worry about where Aang is while also having her be on screen the most with someone who she was already heavily shipped with at the time. And then yall wonder why people hate Kataang and were confused about the ending? And no their relationship in the movie does not fix it in fact it arguably makes it’s worse because it comes off like Katara only gained interest once he became taller and older, it also shows that Katara still had to mother him when they were adults.

Aang is an independent 12-year-old boy who has already traveled the world alone (thanks to Gyatso, who raised him).

If by "mother him" you mean :

- Showing affection towards him (hugs, kisses on the cheek) = That's her love language. It's her way of showing him her love. She's only like that with him.

- Comforting him = He's a grieving genocide survivor, and she comforts him because she's a good friend. Several times in the series, we see Aang reject her attempts at comforting him, especially during the Appa arc.

Aang, for his part, is grateful for the kindness and attention she gives him and reciprocates.

He's one of her biggest supporters : always encouraging her, complimenting her, respecting her, admiring her, giving her advice, and comforting her. (If the Katara/Aang relationship were truly a mother-son dynamic, the effort put in would have to be one-sided.)

And regarding the kiss, yes, it would have been nice to see a scene where they discussed it. But after Katara gets annoyed with Aang, we see him call himself an idiot, give Katara space, and never make the same mistake again. It's like with TSR when she says the famous line to Sokka; there was no on-screen discussion between them.

(The reason she doesn't want to start a relationship isn't due to a lack of feelings, but because she's confused by the war and doesn't feel ready to start anything right now.)

In the next episode in question, he doesn't argue specifically with Katara, but with the ENTIRE gaang.

We see that she still has faith in Aang.

She straight up said she loved Aang in book 2 ep 1 -> “for the people who LOVE YOU, watching you be in that much rage and pain is really scary”. Sokka isn’t scared of the avatar state, and never voiced that concern. She’s talking about herself.

And she did not need to be all up in Aang’s space correcting his stances when they were waterbending either. She is not slick, she again used that as an excuse to touch him lmao

Like please be serious. Katara was very into Aang throughout the entire show. This is just ridiculous levels of lying to claim otherwise, and it’s embarrassing for the OP who is admitting they can’t comprehend a children’s cartoon written for 7 year olds. What's actually brilliant about Moriarty the Patriot — and something other writers could learn from — is that all the characters are smart and capable whilst still feeling like real people, each with distinct personalities and temperaments. You look at them, and you can see that their words, actions, and thoughts do match their age. They behave like adults with adult problems. They look like adults as well. When you watch them, you don’t forget that they are grown people because they don't act like adolescents. That doesn't mean some of them are not awful, of course, but it is one of those rare cases in anime/manga where characters who are more or less on the same intellectual level don't all become the same type of 'genius' with identical dialogue. You do not get the usual edgy clichés: no 'I shall read this massive physics book overnight and return with a complete plan and my physics degree,' no 'obligatory chessboard battles,' no 'I am solving advanced mathematics in 0.1 seconds and you are not.' Those troupes always feel so fake and unnatural. Maybe it's just me, but I am not going to call a character smart simply because the canon says so. An author can assign an IQ of a thousand (I don't believe in the concept of iq anyway), but that doesn't make their character look intelligent — they just make everyone around them seem so dumb. On the other hand, even if the canon never explicitly states it, I'll still recognise a character as genuinely smart if they demonstrate it through their actions. The intelligence within the Moriarty's team feels alive, and that is the clearest sign of a truly thinking mind: the ability to learn, adapt, accept, and understand, rather than merely recall shallow facts from unrelated fields. And despite certain plot holes, there aren't truly serious missteps in how their plans or intelligence are handled. At least, I didn't notice the kind of glaring errors you often see in other anime — for instance, when a character suddenly acquires an inexplicable 'super ability' simply because the author needs some way to justify how they escaped unscathed. William has weaponised his intelligence so effectively that people often overlook how smart Sebastian Moran or Mycroft Holmes actually are. No one in Moriarty the Patriot is born with all the knowledge they possess, which is why they feel so natural and well-balanced. They have all studied and worked for it, and that is precisely why William merely smiles when he is called a genius.
