Aegon II Targaryen & Maegor Targaryen - Parallels
House of the Dragon, Fire & Blood / George R.R. Martin, HotDS1Script provided by @darksvster
We don't clown enough on Rhysand and his friends for calling themselves the "Court of Dreams". That's so embarrassing. Why are you dreaming, my dude? I thought you were the most powerful High Lord of all time? You aren't the underdogs. The "dreamers" are the literal government, the rulers of the nation, the people in power. Go do your job then. Less dreaming, more doing. Let's see some results.
They're using Helaena's neurodivergence as a reason to render her a politicaly insignificant oracle. Don't let them fool you.
At Aegons coronation, they erased Dowager Queen Alicent placing her crown on her daughter's head and calling Helaena her queen.
We know that Helaena was happier before she became queen, but that's after Jaehaerys died. Before that, Helaena doesn't express her opinions and feelings on her ascension or the political scenario.
During Blood and Cheese, Helaena offers her necklace for Jaehaerys' life. Her NECKLACE. In the book, she offers her LIFE. They changed so much of the scene, whole characters aren't where they're supposed to be, but they couldn't leave in a line that shows Helaena is willing to die for her LITTLE CHILDREN, like many mothers would, including neurodivergent ones.
In the book, when forced to choose a son to be murdered under horrible threats made to her daughter, Helaena chooses Maelor to die instead of Jaehaerys. It could be because Maelor was younger and didn't have the awareness that Jaehaerys had, but Helaena's choice ultimately prioritises the life of her firstborn, Aegon's heir. It's a political move. In the show, she's so far removed from politics, the only thing she does that remotely comes close is being forced to parade her son's body around the city.
Then, they refuse to let her call Jaehaerys by his name, instead she calls him "the boy", and people argue that it's because she's in shock, but no other character calls Jaehaerys by his name UNTIL Helaena herself says "I'm sad for Jaehaerys but I ought not to. Children die all the time" in the most dismissive way possible. She doesn't ugly cry. She doesn't sob or scream or express her pain. Her devastating grief is conveniently opted out, and episodes later she is ready to be the cryptical catch-you-in-a-lie targaryen oracle. She doesn't ride her dragon to assist the war efforts, not because she's spiralled into depression and what is crudely called madness, but because she doesn't like to ride, as per Rhaenyra, and if she's ought not to be sad, she can't be enraged or vengeful either, because it would be just as inconvenient and wrong, and she's a pacifist with a sensitive soul that shouldn't be corrupted by her evil brother.
An angry mob of smallfolk throws fish at her and Alicent, when she was notoriously beloved by them in the book.
Her authority as Queen Consort is constantly ignored, bypassed and disrespected by her own mother, when Helaena outranks her.
Why is no one campaigning for Helaena to use the power her position gives her?
They made her a vessel for the prophecy, a plot with so many holes it's become swiss cheese.
Not interested in politics? She's neurodivergent. Doesn't offer her life for her children? She's neurodivergent. Is not consumed by grief? Neurodivergent. Doesn't like to fly on her dragon that she claimed at what, eleven years old?
Who knows why.
Hotd writers workbook each season:
-Sexually humiliate team green for shock value by inventing non-f&b scenes.
-Turn a civil war into a psychosexual lesbian story between one bad (victim) woman who needs to be constantly punished and one good (victim) woman who is constantly restrained by her gender.
-Glaze girlbossified victim rhaenyra, her feminist sex-trafficker advisor and to an extent her pdf daddy husband (ironically even GRRM was not up their bottoms as much as ryan condal and his writers are).
-Humble alicent through SA by framing her as constant victim of her own side to 1) justify her supporting rhaenyra over her kids 2) for #them to go > she deserves it for daring to support her son against queen rhaenyra, the greens are SO horrible, this is what inventing patriarchy does!
-For the gazillionth time, show how immoral criston cole is.
-Repeatedly depict all of tg as deviant evil misogynists and all tb as goody two shoes feminists by adding more non-book scenes, nuance be damned.
-Milk daenerys and asoiaf prophecy as reserved quota.
-Give most tg screentime to alicent who isnt even tg anymore but another rhaenyra stan.
-Add plagiarized dialogues to show how simultaneously girlbossy and victimised all hotd women are, particularly rhaenyra.
-Allude how every medieval woman against rhaenyra MUST be a pick-me hypocrite woman for trump and every woman for rhaenyra is the most perfect badass feminist ever lived, there is no inbetween.
-Only and only rhaenyra is allowed to love, cry, feel for her children in this show.
-Bare minimum characterization for the velaryons. Their portion of tb screentime is given to rhaenyra, daemon and mysaria.
-Make the greens weaker, more divided and pitiful for #their gratuitous gooning.
-Remove all f&b nuance that GRRM wrote and reiterated in his blog to turn the story of the entire dance into tb best, tg worst propaganda for fave self-inserts.
*Best Show Ever!*
rhysand is the most powerful high lord of all time and space and yet tamlin canonically
killed another high lord in one punch
dragged yet another high lord into war
was the only one strong enough to defeat amarantha, it's like rhysand's whole plan to use tamlin's raw beast power
meanwhile the scene where we're apparently shown rhysand's immense power is just him making tamlin shut his mouth bc rhys is losing the verbal sparring hard (bc his usual methods of shutting tamlin up aren't available anymore since he's married)
“You’d be all too happy for war, considering how well you made out in the last one.”
“No one says war can’t be lucrative,” Helion countered.
So we know Helion's just a war profiteer. And the night court has the largest army. No wonder they're close allies.
And when some long haired blond guy who's into flowers and music argues that war actually hurts the people he's the bad guy. Ok. Sure.
Next book we'll throw napalm at little girls for the #cause of the star spangled night court being the greatest of them all. Eagle screech.
Elain who‘s really awkward around Rhysand because she saw him and Tamlin fucking in a dream and she’s unsure if it’s past, present or future
Currently re-reading Acowar for the sake of self-torment and came across this golden line after Feyre has gracefully entered Lucien's mind without his knowledge and proceeds to ask her oh-so-consenting partner whether or not that was morally right:
Feyre that is your friend, a man that trusts and has known you since you arrived in Prythian. "wAs It OkAy FoR mE tO mInD-rApE hIm?" What in the ever loving fuck made you think it was remotely justified- Oh right, your chosen husband.
And what does Rhyseepoo say?
You considerate king. You absolute unit of woke-ism. You progressive martyr. You hypocrite.
Why are the Hightowers so fukcing HOT though
#like uncle, like nephew

The racism in House of the Dragon is far too overlooked
The Velaryons are black, which I would have no problem with, apart from the fact that they diminished their roles significantly and used laena and laenor as no more than plot devices when they are also people on their own right.
Criston Cole is made dornish, which would have been so interesting to explore, but no one takes into account the racism he faces, especially in a time when 'dornishman's courage' is a common insult.
Gwayne Hightower acts explicitly racist and classist towards Criston, and looks down on him for his birth. Instead of being treated as an instance of discrimination, it is made into a joke.
They played the 'disposable black girlfriend' trope with laena.
Baela and Rhaena are only there to make Rhaenyra look better, they don't get the same development they had in the books.
Nettles, one of the only canonically black characters in ASOIAF is removed, just so they don't have to present Rhaenyra as racist. They removed an incredibly important and interesting character, and yet again push women of colour to the side in favour of glorifying white women.
Mysaria is given a thick foreign accent and portrayed as some sort of exotic beauty.
Realistically Tamlin would be Juliet because "a rose by any other name" and long blonde hair and Rhysand would be Romeo because "I sought him out whenever I could" and going to Spring unannounced and leaving him gifts of severed heads on the fountain and shit.
SJM fucked up so big by making the fae conservatives like please what are we doing??? Do you know how much fun it would’ve been if Feyre were to suffer from extreme culture shock when coming to spring cause everyone’s kinda fucking with everyone and they’re all pansexual and everyone has rights and her meeting the first polycule would’ve been ridiculous HELLO!? I could rant on about this forever but how amazing would it have been for Feyre‘s internalized misogyny (and everything else ms ma‘am has going on) to be confronted head on?? How healing would it have been to not only meet so many confident women (and men) who are so comfortable with their femininity but also have people explicitly express "there is nothing wrong with all these things". It also would’ve made the Archeron sister‘s struggle to adapting a lot more interesting because these girls who were raised in a very sexist, classist and puritan environment are suddenly confronted with these people who are so sexually liberated and have so much freedom and so little shame about these things.
much of the fandom portrays rhysand as silver tongued and eloquent whereas tamlin is seen as a bit dumb and not a great talker, but considering the high lord meeting tamlin very much has the skill to fuck rhysand and feyre up verbally. like I know it's supposed to be this show of rhysand's great power that he takes away tamlin's ability to speak but it reads as a last resort to me where rhysand can't win the conversation so he has to stop it outright and by force
I find it odd the way the writers have introduced two of the green characters now.
Obviously I’m not including him as a baby. But the first two scenes in which we see teenage Aegon and adult Aegon are focused on his bare ass, teenage Aegon pleasuring himself out a window and adult aegon naked with his bare ass on view (again), after they’ve just talked about his sexual advances on the handmaidens.
Then we start season 2 and the first thing we see of Alicent is her with Criston between her legs.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m grateful for the show, but it’s odd to me that the writers seem to enjoy showing off team green in that way. 🤷🏻♀️
It's a really weird mix of vilifing and sexualising that just feels really odd in a show about misogyny and the sexual exploitation of women under feudalism. 😬
Exactly, I’ve no issue with the characters wanting to do that, but it’s strange to consistently introduce them that way when it can be done off screen and implied in the show, or just not an introduction. The sexual freedom Alicent’s gotten with Criston had made her an even bigger target considering she now looks like a hypocrite. Especially when opposed to Rhaenyra who all throughout the episode is mourning the loss of her son.
especially considering in season 1 we already saw Alicent be maritally raped by Viserys, and then sexually assaulted by Larys. And then it being implied Aemond was sa’d by the woman in the brothel. And Helaena’s speech about Aegon when he’s drunk. Not even going to get into the whole conversation around Criston and his honour with Rhaenyra. It’s a weird thing to highlight about team green especially when Rhaenyra has been highlighted as if she’s the only protagonist of the show, because ultimately it’s painting it as if team green deserve retribution for what they’ve done to Rhaenyra so far and the bad things that have happened to them can be brushed off when it’s not something as easy as that. For a show that says it’s not as bad as GOT in terms of sex and abuse against women, the writers sure love implementing sexual material and plastering it over team green characters.
I clearly have to come back to this point since seeing ep 8 leaks. My point is reiterated over and over again by the writers and this show. We get b&c dumbed down to a joke that helaena walks in on her mother having sex, then we have aemond in the brothel not only once but twice, the second time being aegon also in the brothel looking at multiple different people having sex behind curtains before finding his brother naked with a whore and aemond being fully naked on screen. Then we’ve also had as of ep 8 leaks: don’t read further if you don’t want to know!!
but as of ep 8 leaks, Aegon paints a visceral picture of what has happened to his genitals, it’s clearly going to be taken as retribution for what he did to dyana etc, and whilst I don’t condone aegon’s actions, is it necessary to know in specific detail, (in a way that’s clearly written to be found as a joke might I add) what’s happened to him down there? We also are getting alicent confessing to rhaenyra that she has a lover - which does paint her hypocrisy out clearly but it is a stupid scene that’s inclusion makes no sense. Honestly I won’t be patiently waiting for season 3 like i did with season 2 because the writers are incompetent when it comes to george’s writings purpose, and the characters nuances.
Reblogging this to say the influx of “ships” Criston is a part of and presented as a solely sexual being is actually disgusting, especially considering that he’s dornish and they’re given that attribute in the books and show. Criston is more than being a sex tool for other characters. You can have your ships with him, but don’t make him solely a symbol for that.
Also, I’ve no issue with making the characters look bad, I prefer them flawed, but when there’s a major difference in the ways the writers treat the characters of opposing teams, that’s where I have an issue. Also unrelated but the way Helaena told Aemond how he’d die and what would happen to Aegon, that is NOT her prophetic powers, that is lazy writing.
The fact we’re three seasons in now, only one episode released so far and they’ve already done it again just proves my point - AGAIN. How is Aemond kissing his mother relevant to the plot or overreaching arc of the characters???
Infinite post glitch it seems because why has it happened again only one episode later??? WHAT PURPOSE DOES IT SERVE TO HAVE ALICENT ASSAULTED BY JASPER WYLDE????
