I found out today that there was a (thankfully very ill-fated) attempt to have the entire Wikipedia article on discrimination against transgender men deleted. At first I thought the perpetrator was yet another bargain bin transphobe/TERF act of disruption but apparently not so, she is a trans woman. The user in question had been disputing the use of transandrophobia in the article as being inappropriate, but as other editors pointed out, the way in which it was used was as to be expected (basically saying “hey this term is being used commonly right now in places to describe this phenomena”). When attempts to get the article edited to remove any mention of the term failed, this user instead decided to just nominate the whole article for deletion instead. She even went as far as to say “you will never be a man” to the editors disputing this, though it was quickly deleted. It’s the actions of only a single person, but I find this indicative of how the chronic devaluing and othering of transmasculine people and voices in faux-transfeminist spaces leads to action basically indistinguishable from cis transphobes. Resorting to attempted vandalism of an online resource and blatant transphobia is a symptom of this trend that deserves absolutely no patience at this point.
One of the most frustrating things I see is well meaning cis (and even trans) people talking about how something affects trans people then adding "especially transfems" on the end with no follow up, no sources, no anything except doing what they feel is the right/feminist/ally thing and "acknowledging that transfems have it worse."
Are there things that affect transfems more? Of course! The opposite is also true! But unless there is a significant difference that needs to be addressed in the post or the article or whatever because the extra context is needed *and* they have sources to back it up it just furthers the erasure of issues transmascs (and unaligned nbs) face. It downplays what we deal with. It can even contribute to anti-transmasculinity.
This is anectodal but I did actually talk to someone who made a blog post with that line and explained to them how the issue they were discussing did actually affect transmascs just as much and they had no idea. I showed them quotes from the law being discussed that mentioned trans men and just weren't part of the broader narrative around the laws because people simply don't consider transmascs to be as affected or affected at all by new legislation or hate crimes or literally anything.
And adding "especially transfems" to the end of every single statement about things that affect all trans people only reinforces that.
only the chosen one may draw the sword from the bird

i dont want a childproofed internet i am almost 30 fucking years old. give your kid an internet safety talk and stop making it the problem of every adult on the planet every time some cryptkeeper legislator gets the brilliant idea (via conservative lobbying) to push through yet another bill gutting our access to free expression + increasing the powers of the surveillance state + lining the pockets of Big Data in the name of Protecting The Kids they wont even feed. this shit is exhausting i can’t believe we’re going to be fighting about it for the rest of my life
one of the biggest issues trans men face is hyperinvisibility and erasure however people dont realize by those words alone how violent this is to trans men. i can't name a single trans man in acting besides elliot page, let alone who plays a canonically trans man. transmasculine undertones in cartoon characters are deliberately written out of the plot. when there are transmasculine coded characters they are immediately claimed as transfem by the fandom. trans men are at a higher risk of forced pregnancy (and by extension, forced detransition, because PREGNANCY FORCES YOU TO DETRANSITION) and we are claimed as women if we point it out or god forbid experience it ourselves. trans women are seen as a higher risk group of reproductive violence than trans men. even "trans affirming" reproductive health providers and clinics never go beyond "some women identify as men❤️" and trans men are turned away from reproductive care for being trans men. trans men face the highest risk of sexual assault in the trans community at 50%. 50%, ONE IN TWO trans men will be sexually abused at some point in his life, and when we are, our abuse statistics arent listed under trans men, theyre listed under women. when we talk about being sexually abused we are misgendered by terfs and trfs alike and our experiences of sexual violence on account of us being trans men are chalked up to womens violence. theres an entire joke on the internet about forcibly impregnating men and the primary group of men that forced pregnancy affects are called hysterical and that this isnt about trans men. theres another one about transmasculine music artists but all yall know is cavetown.
at some point, you have to understand, that the erasure and hyperinvisibility of trans men isnt a consequence of trans womens hypervisibility. it is a DELIBERATE EFFORT to silence and oppress trans men, often done by the trans community itself
people online love to appear morally superior by being dismissive of the phrase ‘i do not dream of labour’ so that they can respond like ‘UH ACTUALLY, this is a bourgeoisie-coded phrase, you dream about other people’s labour because if you just want to spend all your time travelling then someone still has to do the labour of flying the plane and cooking your food etc etc 🙄 fake leftist’
and like. listen i get what you’re saying. yes even in a socialist utopia people would have to do work and plenty of that work would be boring and unpleasant and people do ignore that sometimes
but getting mad over this phrase specifically is such a... purposefully bad faith interpretation that it really gives this vibe
‘i do not dream of labour’ was meant to be a response to the classic question ‘what’s your dream job?’, and anyone i've ever seen use it has meant: my dreams and passions do not revolve around work. i am worth more than the career i choose.
that... does not mean that you would refuse to do labour that was actually useful to your community?
i've always interpreted it as a rejection of the fake enthusiasm we're expected to perform when it comes to career stuff - think every time a job interview asks, 'so why do you want to work here?' and you have to pretend you give a fuck about their company culture beyond their ability to give you a paycheck
i don't dream of committing the majority of my waking hours to labour, frankly. that doesn't mean i don't things have to be done sometimes, but i want them to 1) actually have value to them 2) be rightfully recognised AS labour 3) not be something i have to feign passion about
i'll still do the dishes, just don't make me writing a fucking cover letter about how much i love dish soap and have dreamed about scraping dried food off of plates since i was a child

i actually do think on some level obese should be considered a slur akin to other dated medicalizing terminology
it's a fun sexy word for me but as a medical category it's entirely based on just your height and weight and nothing else. treating it as a medical problem is tantamount to treating fat people as a problem to be eradicated, it's fundamentally eugenicist. the world would still be fine if everyone was fat.

I'm gonna say the controversial thing because it's my blog and I can cause issues if I Want To!
I literally do not give a FUCK if people wear shien. Yes, even if they bought directly from the site.
My ONLY exception is if you are dropping £££s on shien every month.
Let me explain:
I promise you that for people who genuinely can only afford Shien, their options for 'more ethically made' clothing was made 2 tables down from the Shien shit. That is how fast fashion works.
Hell, multiple studies and data collections have shown that there are HUNDREDS of more expensive, more 'ethical' brands that are even WORSE than Shien in terms of labour!!
The issue is overconsumption - If you can only afford Shien, or even second hand Shien (I'll come back to that specific point), then there is no way to be buying up enough stock to cause the demand that Shien's production is allegedly reaponding to.
According to mamy surveys, do you kmow who the MAIN demand is for Shien? The people dropping £100s a week on it?
Middle Class, 40+, White Women with children.
So before you go crusading against the broke AF Uni student or Depressed Minimum-Wage worker who just wanted a nice birthday outfit, consider that.
Let me ALSO round back to my point about second hand. So many people who just HATE Shien say "I wont even buy it second hand, I hate stores that sell 2nd hand Shien".
Baby, I'mma hold your hand when I say this;
You are a part of the problem - Arguably moreso than people who buy from Shien directly once in a blue moon.
Because what do you think happens when Shien skips the second hand cycle? When it can't be sold for the £1-£4 that most ANY second hand retailer sells it for??
It looses the chance at being ethically re-homed and skips straight to being dumped in a clothing landfill.
If you really, truly, ACTUALLY give a shit about helping the environment, about preventing workers from being exploited?
You would ONLY buy 2nd Hand. Yes, even the Shien. Because the only way this stops is if we break the cycle;
The WHOLE cycle - Not just the parts that you can use as taglines on the internet for morality brownie points.
Actually, BIG POINT TO ADD Regarding what I said about Second Hand Shien:
At this point there is SO MUCH 2nd hand Shien that if you are on a tight budget due to the current cost of living crisis - Buying from second hand shops or sites like Vinted is MILES better in every way.
I still wont judge people for wearing Shien, since you literally can't tell whether they bought direct or not.
But its an all around Pro to buy 2nd hand Shien:
1. It's cheaper than buying directly from Shien, usually £1-£4 on vinted. Yes, even in the biggest sizes.
2. You aren't supporting unethical labour, so you look cute physically and are good ethically.
And finally:
3. You're stopping those clothed from being thrown away and ending up in a landfill - Which helps end the cycle as a whole.
Just points I forgot to add in my OG Post!
