"quick thread explaining how to buy E-sims to send people in gaza to circumvent the internet blackout (only just figured it out myself:)
1) go to nomad (getnomad.app), click on the menu in the top right-hand side, and click on shop plans then data (image is of the nomad app, with the right hand menu circled)
2) after clicking on data, scroll aaallll the way down. the middle east plan is at the very bottom of the list of data plans. (circled is the plan for the middle east, listed for 4 plans, 7 countries)
3) after choosing the middle east plan, choose how much you want to pay, then enter your card details ETC and acknowledge everything (2 screenshots of the nomad app, one with the middle east plan selected, the other with the checkout form)
4) ignore the next part. you don't want to install anything. you're waiting for an email with a QR code for activation. (screenshot of the after checkout screen, which says "hooray, your E-sim is ready to install and use!" at the top.
5) screenshot the QR code and send it to someone in gaza!
6) how to get it to someone in gaza? well, the tiny handful of people in gaza with internet access can share your QR codes with offline people. here's a good place to start: (quote retweeted is a tweet by @/mirna_elhelbawi that says "4 journalists got linked so far with our E-sim. working on the rest. priority for press and medical staff. let's hope for the best."
i sent mine to @/basharchaheen BTW (quote retweeted is a tweet by @/basharchaheen, written in arabic)
the next three images are tweets by @/mirna_elhelbawi that say:
"we linked @/hind_gaza with an E-sim. *it is not fake and it is working.*
europe (almost all countries), canada, USA, australia, mexico and so many more, are sending E-sims and trying to help people in gaza. my faith in humanity is restored.
we do not take donations. we do not take money. we only receive the E-sims purchased by people and send them to journalists and medical staff in gaza. *we do not take donations. we do not take money.*
we are working on it. we will provide as many as we can. (attached is a quote retweet by @/hind_gaza that says "i will try to provide people in gaza with E-sims tomorrow.
the next two tweets are in arabic except for the Iphone messages, which say:
the next tweet says "third E-sim installed and working (red heart emoji) (crying face emoji) (clapping emoji)
the next tweet says "i have just teamed up with @/simplyapp to provide *thousands* of E-sims to gaza. we will make sure everyone gets stable and consistent internet access there. palestinians will not be silenced again."
and the last tweet, by @/basharchaheen says in english "if you have any more E-sims you need send please send them to my DM and both @/ahmad_altarifi9 & @/razanaobeidat will .distribute them to our people in gaza" and then there is something else written under it in arabic.
the next image is an instagram post by @/simlyapp that says "in the heart of gaza, millions now find themselves isolated from the world.
at simly, our core belief is in fostering global connectivity, ensuring that every voice is heard and every heart connected. in response to this dire situation, we are donating free E-sims to the people of gaza.
every penny of profit we make from 'palestine' plans will directly support the 'tarahum' campaign, a beacon of hope led by the emirates red crescent. you can also help bridge the distance by donating E-sims at: HTTPS://bit.LY/GAZAESIMS"
and the last image is an instagram post by mirna_elhelbawi that says "due to thousands of DMs, i created an E-mail specially to receive your E-sims on it.
if you purchased an E-sim, send a screenshot to this E-mail and we will deliver it to gaza as soon as possible."
note: if you able to translate or transcribe the posts written in arabic to make this post more accessible it would be appreciated.
