I don't like how normalized threats of (family) violence to children are. I'm thinking about the mom who came into work the other day with her teenaged children and I overheard her telling her son that she would punch him if he kept acting the way he was (from my vantage point he was literally sitting there quietly eating his food). My mother-in-law has repeatedly said of my younger brother-in-law that his teachers have permission to hit him and has discussed sending him to military school if he doesn't straighten up. And this isn't to even get into what my own parents did to me and how that was handled.
