armand getting overstimulated by fledglings through the centuries
tired sigh
i’m not feeling the same motivation to write about my reaction to the last episode because tbh the only part of it that sincerely moved me was stained glass eyes. and god did it ever move me, i did legitimately tear up! it was deeply cathartic to see lestat’s expression of love for claudia like that, i can’t think of a more perfect way to present the depth of his sincerity on screen. it was perfect.
i just wish i felt like that about anything else i saw in this episode, and i don’t. and i have been trying so hard to remain optimistic and patient and to trust the process and to reserve my final judgment on this season until i’ve seen all the episodes, but this was episode 5 of a season that will only be 7 episodes long, and i can’t deny how empty i feel after watching it.
i’m not trying to doompost or shit on anyone who is getting more out of this season than i am, but i feel like so much of this experience could have been mitigated by just… one real, sincere, on-screen kiss between lestat and any of the men who he has loved, and who have loved him. just one moment of queer intimacy experienced by our queer lead.
i used to joke that nbc’s hannibal was the queerest ‘straight’ show on television, and then i started saying it seriously, and now i don’t consider anything about it straight (thank you to both god and jesus for bryan fuller’s finale vision. and also to hugh dancy and mads mikkelsen for delivering the most poignant last moments between their characters). now i’m in the miserable position of no longer joking when i describe the vampire lestat as the straightest queer show i’ve ever watched.
again, tiredly, if the last two episodes recontextualize any of this for me, i’ll walk all of this back. i’m still watching. but unless something big changes between now and the end of episode 7, i may not keep watching in the future.
daniel is going to be like “hey armand do you know anything about sofia? can’t get a read on her” and armand will say “oh that’s gabriella. lestat’s mom.” and the grin that will spread across daniel’s face will look like this:
INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE (2022-)
#if it hadn't been love armand would've pulled daniel's spine out thru his mouth in 2.08 so. yeah. yeah ofc it was love @ladyofthecreeddraws
it was love.
The concept of DM shippers being worried about what non-DM shippers think of Armand and Daniel if they do some evil shit together this season is kinda ridiculous. Like, no one will care if they commit some crimes as long as they do it together. They could burn the whole world down and be only them alive and it'd be romantic to us and who knows maybe we'd think it was warranted.
“They said they wanted a vampire relationship with no age gap”
“No age gap??!?!?”
“And no non-con elements”
“NO NON CON?”
“And no coercion or otherwise manipulative behaviors”
“Joe they want a vampire with NOTHING”
it was love. 🥺

wait.
what?
i’m speedrunning the 5 stages of grief about what looks like the death of the queerness in the queer vampire show. please let me be wrong about this.
wait.
what?
he's not wrong.
