i guess you could make the argument that mikey’s never needed to be very internal, because everything he’s ever needed has always been outside of himself, walking around as someone else. gerard was a person before mikey was, imbued with the direction and suggestive power mikey naturally lacks. gerard could tell him where to go and what to do with himself with a stunning clarity and foresight into who he wanted to shape mikey into being, subconsciously or otherwise. any decisions mikey does make for himself seem to be hedonistic in either direction, his every action influenced and informed by something already occurring, be it want or whim. mikey requires stimulus because he lacks initiative. beautiful opening for rules and punishment systems then, no? he’s literally begging to be wielded, because he finds relief in not having to make any big choices. aww, poor baby, i see you looking for the corners… here mikey, i’ll build you this box. wouldn’t you then also feel a little parental and possessive about your habitat brother
