seriously the amount of time I spend just imagining and re-imagining totally made-up scenarios in my head has got to be unhealthy
Masks. I could talk about masks forever. Mostly because the story I currently refer to as 'my novel' (for lack of a better title that I'm willing to share with other people) is set in a world where everyone wears masks. (it's a medieval-based world, hence my use of 'nobles' and 'peasants')
In this world, masks (for all genders) are treated the way shirts are for men here. You don't have to wear them all the time, it's not like you're naked if you're not wearing one, but it's generally frowned upon for you to walk around in public without one (in a climate where it doesn't get terribly hot and there's no beach). Nobles always wear them because it's improper not to, but peasants tend not to wear them around the house, and in other more intimate settings (no, I'm not talking the bedroom, people usually take them off there). You can wear ones that expose more, like Ganymede's, or cover more, like Mitch's, and it doesn't really make a difference, it's really just that you're wearing one. Disguise is actually harder in this community because people are so used to seeing each other with their faces covered that it's actually easier for them to recognize someone wearing a completely different mask than without one.
Farmer peasant masks tend to be made of wood. They're typically cut like Mitch's (the top right dark brown leather one), maybe covering less of the cheeks for women, and often a little more square in shape. Peasant children will often not wear them, or will wear really crude ones, because they're going to outgrow them soon. Adults will have one mask their whole life. Usually they make carvings into the wood over years and years, so a young adult will have a fairly plain mask, whereas an elderly person will have an incredibly elaborate one. Peasants in the city will often have wooden masks as well, but those who can save up some money on the side will buy a sturdy leather one, like Mitch's. (I couldn't find pictures of wooden masks that are not incredibly culturally symbolic and not at all what I'm looking for, which is why I have June's festival mask and not the mask she spends most of the story in)
Nobles get fancier materials, such as shiny, colorful leathers, silks, and metals. On a day-to-day basis, they'll wear simpler masks, but they still will have the color and material that will indicate their higher status, as you can see with Matthias' everyday mask (second row, middle). They'll wear more elaborate ones for celebrations, festivals, and special trips to the King's court, as demonstrated by the second row far right mask, also belonging to Matthias. Typically, a noble would own several day-to-day masks, and two or three fancier masks.
Royalty will wear fancier masks altogether. The left ones on the three middle rows and the right one on the third row are typical examples of masks the princesses would own. They would each own a large number of fancy masks. This would be typical of any royal except the main ruler (in this case, King Jupiter), whose mask becomes iconic. They may have one or two less elaborate masks for behind-the-scenes, but otherwise, it's all about the one incredibly fancy mask. I have one for King Jupiter, an awesome sun mask, but unfortunately Tumblr only allows ten pictures at a time.
So that's my mask rant. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to drop them in my mask. As I said, I could literally talk about this forever.

My next set of OCs. This one's the Galloway Family, and their related characters. The first pic is Jupiter, the father, when younger. The next four are his daughters: Callisto, Ganymede, Europa, and Io. Europa and Io are the only two sharing a mom there. Next is Raleigh, a family friend; Matthias, another family friend; and June, Matthias's adopted sister. There's usually another character who goes with them, Mitch, but he's really hard to cast (because all I know about him is that he's big and bald).
My first set of OCs for the OC face jam! The LISPLA crew.
when you make OCs, and later find out they look kinda like characters from an existing series
When you write/think their stories and later find out they are very similar like characters from an existing series.
When your OCs have been established for years but characters from recent popular shows look very similar to them
My hobbies include making OC’s and making AU’s of those OC’s
that awkward moment when someone in your classes and also in the group that will probably end up becoming your circle of friends has the same name as one of your characters

The Princesses & Co. occupy most of my thinky mind lately. I have some other new characters and stories, but I have a lot of fun with this crew. I've come up with a new AU for them last night: gangster AU!
The Galloway family is a longstanding gang family. Jupiter was the oldest son of the family, and destined to become the head. He had a younger brother, also in the business, who as a teenager had a pretty serious girlfriend, a thief named Luna. The family loved her and treated them as their own. Everyone was convinced that he and Luna would get married one day, until he died in a hit on the family. Jupiter made sure that she stayed under the family's protection, and they remained close throughout their lives, though they never had any romantic interest for one another. She put her days of thievery in the past and went on to marry a respectable man in politics, Didaeus Williams. He insisted that her association with the Galloway family be kept a secret, but allowed Jupiter to remain close with the family.
Jupiter remained a close family friend. He was not a man of commitment, so he never married himself or had a girlfriend for very long, but he was always very fond of children. Luna and Didaeus had a son named Raleigh, who Jupiter became a second father to. Didaeus didn't want Raleigh to get involved in the gang life, but Jupiter taught him about it regardless, under the belief that he could become the new head of the family when Jupiter passed.
Just because he didn't commit didn't mean that Jupiter was without children, and this came back to bite him in the butt. He discovered the first child, his eldest daughter Callisto, after her mother died and he was listed as the next closest relative. She was six at the time. He adopted her and raised her as his own daughter. Shortly after, a four-year-old girl Ganymede was thrust at him by her prostitute mother who could no longer afford to care for the girl. He had two more daughters with an on-and-off girlfriend of his: a sickly little girl Europa and a fiery one, Io. She died, and he was left with four daughters entirely in his care. He raised them as best he could, and seeing no other way to protect them in his gang life, he made them a part of it.
Callisto is now poised to become the head of the family, and is Jupiter's second-in-command. While not The Boss herself, she's treated as if she is, unless she contradicts Jupiter.
Ganymede isn't in much of a position of command, because she doesn't want to be. She prefers to be a little more independent, though she does do some information-gathering for her father. Smooth-talking is her strong suit, and many men have succumbed to her seductive power, making it easy for her to get what she needs to know.
Due to her poor health, Europa spends most of her time indoors, heavily guarded by the family's most trusted guards. She's not a fan of violence and seems out of place in a family of criminals, but she's excellent in negotiating compromises, and is often consulted on matters of disputes within the family or with other families and non-family gangs of similar standing.
Io is that person in every gang who makes it quite clear that the threats they pose are very real. Most people are terrified of her, for good reason. She has an incredibly low tolerance for people who cross the family and can take down most anyone she puts her mind to taking down.
Matthias is the son of a made member of the family. He is a con artist and a big earner for the family.
As for Raleigh...he's not happy that Callisto took his place. Not one bit.
That's all I have for now. As I said, I haven't developed this much, but I think it's a fun thing to think about!
people who ask things about your OCs
So the princesses & such...I have so many feelings about them right now! I've come up with two AUs about them that have been occupying my mind. One is Gilded Age and I can't talk about it much because I'm planning on writing about it and don't want to blather too much about it before that. The other one is modern day, so I'm going to go crazy and tell you all about it!
Callisto works...somewhere. I'm not quite sure where. But she lives in an apartment with Ganymede. What I have with her is all sorts of drama. She dates Raleigh (that's the canon villain who's not a villain in the AUs, read more below) at some point, but ends up breaking up with him because they really don't work out so well.
Ganymede lives with her older sister, and again, no idea what her job is. She's originally dating Matthias, but then starts sleeping with Raleigh (while he's still dating Callisto). They get found out shortly after Callisto breaks up with Raleigh, and Callisto tells Matthias, who breaks up with Ganymede. Eventually she finally ends up actually dating Raleigh.
Europa has kind of a sad story. When getting her vaccines as a child, she caught a mild case of the mumps. Not so bad, right? Well, it developed into pancreatitis, which had her hospitalized for about 9 weeks. Unfortunately, that caused her to contract hyperglycemia, and now she's staying in the ICU indefinitely. I never have much plot surrounding her...but there's that!
Io goes to West Point. She'll eventually graduate at the top of her class, and will be at the front lines of the movement to get women on the front lines. She's got more of a plot in the gilded AU, I swear...
Matthias yes is not one of the princesses, I know, but he's part of the outer crew. He's living with his best childhood friend, Raleigh, and again I don't know what he does for a job. He dates Ganymede for a while, but while they're together, he falls madly in love with Callisto. He thinks that she's pretty serious with Raleigh, and he likes Ganymede well enough, which is why he never made a move on her, until she broke up with Raleigh and he broke up with Ganymede after finding out she's been sleeping with Raleigh. But it doesn't go so well, because she doesn't want to be a rebound, and...well I'm just going to stop blabbing about this plot now because I'm tired and want to finish this thing.
Raleigh also doesn't have a specific job, lives with Matthias, etc. He started dating Callisto, but then slept with Ganymede, yada yada, I said it all before. Just because he's not a villain doesn't mean he's not a dickwad is the gist of his plotline in every universe, it seems.
June is the main character in canon, but here she's more of a side character. She's Matthias's adopted sister. She really feels like she doesn't belong in this world, and eventually gets put into the ICU for self-harm. That's where she meets Europa, and more importantly, Mitch. Mitch (who I ship her with forever and always including in canon) is a janitor in the ICU (unless there's some other sort of gruntworker that works more closely with the patients, but it looks like it's only nurses in the ICU and I don't think he could really become a nurse). They meet and talk and eventually fall deeply in love, though they don't really outright say it because they're like that. At one point when she's close to being released, he catches her stashing a razor. She says she doesn't want to leave because then she'll never see him or Europa again, but he talks her out of it, and tells her what he was planning to surprise her with when she got out - a dinner reservation at the kind of fancy restaurant that he could only ever afford to go to once in his life. So she stops and she gets out and they go and it's the most romantic evening and then she goes to live with Matthias (and I guess Raleigh too? I guess I didn't realize that part) so he can keep an eye on her (their parents were never really a big part of the picture) until Mitch asks her to move in with him and then in the future marriage will randomly come up in a conversation and he'll show up at some point with a ring and they'll get married and have a really romantic honeymoon (where they sleep together for the first time, they're incredibly slow-moving physically) and then adopt kids (because she's adopted) and have a happy family and they're all sweet and romantic and omg I just ship them so hard <3
PS if anyone was ever interested in RPing with this modern version I'd be willing to ignore all of the shipping drama and ship any of those characters except June and Mitch because they belong together, I promise all of them are actually developed now except I've neglected Europa a bit but I'm working on that
I'm baaaaaacckkk(ish)
Rhythm is from a story I've been working on for a while called Jessica and the Angel (wow gold star for title creativity right there). I started writing a graphic novel script for it for Script Frenzy, the script equivalent of NaNoWriMo, but I hit a giant brick wall and had to stop. I have a bunch of ideas floating around in my head for it, but it's been really hard for me to pin anything down and get anything solid.
Rhythm is one of the ideas floating around that I'm rather fond of. To fully understand his character, though, you need to know the world premise of Jessica and the Angel: in this world, if you die you either become part of The Music or become consumed by The Abyss. They're basically the equivalents of heaven and hell. Lately more and more people have become consumed by The Abyss, because when it consumes someone they can still walk around, and they try to find someone else to consume. They're like zombies, only much sneakier - they'd never consume you in public. The only way to tell them apart in a crowd is that their eyes are always covered, because they no longer have eyes. Instead, The Abyss seeps out of their eyesockets, like a wispy smoke made of darkness. (Needless to say, the summertime sucks.) Music is the only way to combat The Abyss, as it is complete and utter silence. The Angel is one of many embodiments of The Music that exists to combat The Abyss (but possibly the only one you see in the story).
Rhythm is in a third category: his own. He is the embodiment of beat, which lies directly between music and silence. He's sort of a trickster character, but without so much cunningness. He's smart, but pretty straightforward. He doesn't do riddles, just deals. The way I see him is as more akin to the devil in many works of fiction - ready to offer a deal, but be careful what you wish for, because it just might come true. He's a pretty sick being, and has a number of underlings that have become addicted to the beat and thus will do whatever he says without question. They're basically his puppets, and they're the ones who summon him - someone has to play a beat for him to come out, after all! They're so addicted to rhythm, though, that they'd never stop, even though he perpetuates their addiction every time he's summoned.
I've always thought of him as a rather large, bald dark-skinned man in pretty ordinary casual clothing (a tee-shirt and some jeans probably). Recently I've decided that he's taken up residence in an abandoned amusement park...though where the drum set came from, I don't know. I'll have to think that over more.
The reason this is a music post is that Clint Eastwood by the Gorillaz, the song attached to this post, is what I based him on.
…don’t spurn me after all I’ve been through.
so this is resembling a couple in the story I've been working on lately to the point where it's really eerie
never watched this show but his motivations are identical
why do I even bother -.-
A sketch of my fantroll, Maijah Pallas, done in her blood color. Her horns are supposed to look kind of like an open book, which is also her symbol.
Since I drew this, I figured I'd do a post on her.
She's my only fantroll that's not another character made into a troll. She was actually named after an NPC from the Doctor Who tabletop game I was in, who died around the time I created my fantroll. We loved that character, and it was sad to have her go.
She likes literature and antiquity. Her lusus is a bookworm. Her sylladex has an Archives modus: she retrieves items by remembering their call number, which is the combination of the letter of the stack it was filed in and the number it was filed under within that stack. She's a bit forgetful, so sometimes she has a hard time remembering call numbers. Her strife specibus is bookKind, which mostly means she just chucks books at people (this might change at some point). Her trollianTag is meticulousPapyrophile (it's really a coincidence that the initials of her name happen to be the same). She types stiffly and formally with proper grammar, except that she always capitalizes the letter A, because in her mind it's the greatest of all letters.
She's a Derse dreamer. Her sburb planet is the Land of Trees and Shadow. If she ever reached godtier, she'd be the Mage of Light or Life (even after a lovely explanation from riningear, I'm unable to decide). Her ancestor was The Bookkeep. She went from hive to hive looking through book collections to confiscate any material banned by the Condesce. Many works she saved in her own private collection. She was executed for saving books, though her private collection was never found.
I am not as strong with the OCOTP feels as I was last night, but here's my spiel regardless.
So first, I have these two male characters that are constantly posing me a world of problems and feels. One of them is Sam, who I've already done a canon profile of. The other one is Rip. I have a sort of AU where they're still in college and friends. As in canon, Rip gets a crush on Sam, and they get drunk one night, and things happen, but unlike in canon, Rip doesn't accidentally touch Sam's scars thereby having Sam disown him as a friend. Instead, they keep on getting together. Felicia (another Night Zombies character who in this AU is their RA) is keeping a careful eye on it because she knows that in reality Sam doesn't actually have any feelings for Rip and is really just playing it as a friends with benefits situation when Rip actually has a serious crush on Sam. It's a problem because I would find them adorable if it weren't for the fact that Sam just won't get feelings for Rip even though I really want him to. Why can't OCs just do what we want them to?
After this cut is one of the two couples from my novel in progress, because the other one is the most spoilerific thing on the planet. I promise this is cheerier and more feelsy than Rip and Sam!
