I just slipped hard in the horse pasture. Lying on the ground in the snow, wind knocked out of me, I see Pinkman take off towards the house like sewer rat Lassie. Wow, I think to myself, what an incredible animal! She is going to bring me help! I am so lucky to have her!

A minute later Pinkman returns. She places a tiny tennis ball in my actively bleeding hand, and prances beside me begging me to throw it as I drag my wretched flesh prison back up to the house alone.

I have a lot of feelings about Zoey getting hurt again. I don’t know any details but shortly before I got her she was attacked by another dog. I found out after a few months and it explained why she was so fearful with other dogs and why she reacted the way she did. We finally hit a point where she’s fine around other dogs. Certain dogs she doesn’t like and still barks at but she keeps her distance and runs away if they try to approach. She doesn’t bark on the leash. She licked a dog she used to be scared of on the face the other day. A dog at work has been going after her the past 2 days - a young very bouncy terrier. She usually just tries to play, Zoey growls, she goes away but she’s been growling at and chasing Zoey before Zoey even looks at her. A year ago this could’ve been a terrifying fight but now Z just growls back and leaves. I am so proud of her. It has taken a long time to get to this point. There’s still a lot to work on but we’ve made progress. What happened today sure isn’t going to help her not be scared of other dogs. She was so scared. And I’m still recovering from a concussion, today was my first longer day back at work. I wish there was a little more time between scary injuries, a break would be nice. Or a break from all the family crap while this goes on. I love my dog a lot and I’m glad she’s going to be okay.

Zoey got her Halloween costume late A much, much larger dog lunged at her today and pinned her to the ground. She has a few broken ribs, a bunch of small punctures, and some weird subcutaneous emphysema. Last week I got a concussion, so I guess this week it’s her turn to get hurt. She is doing okay at the moment, was very painful before she got drugs but is still very sensitive and stiff. Fortunately this recovery should be a lot easier than the broken pelvis, it’s regular rest not crate rest. Poor dog has been through so much this year.

Vice President Mike Pence told Republican leadership during a retreat this week that Triple Crown winner American Pharoah bit him in 2018.

American Pharaoh - the horse who was happy to be swarmed and petted by the press, the horse who cuddled into the arms of children and adults he’d never met before, who calmly put his whole face into the lap of a wheel chair bound fan, who was almost more famous for his sweetness than his racing ability - bit the vice president.

Hard to imagine it’s true, but man I hope it is. Just another reason to be a Pharoah fan.
