who — taylor swift ? didn't think she'd come into the chat but — she always as the talent to be the talk of tinsel town. surprised anyone knows who we even are. then come do it sometime — my ears are open and craving ! you're not wrong, i have like three drum sets in different parts of my home for when i'm itching for it all. something like that. good band, right.

Well, she had the highest grossing tour of all time, although we were ahead of her for a bit there. We didn't make as much money, apparently, but had more people come along, so make of that what you will. The trick is to cover one of her songs every now and then, to stay relevant - works a treat. I'd judge, but I have about 6 guitars, 2 pianos, and a keyboard, just laying around the house.

Right back at you! I have to say I especially loved your last album, loved hearing you singing lead more. Route 55 is often played in my house! As the post-tour blues hit you yet?

I get it, we have our shows and then we have breaks and it's hard to just fully get off that almost — high of it all. Yes, we do and I think it's nice, plus having someone right there who knows almost exactly what you're going through as well, it's amazing. Same here, always there for my girls. I'm so glad to hear that and agree, it has such magic and I might be a bit bias on such.

That's exactly what it is - the buzz of being on stage, it's the highest high you can possibly feel. We're always chasing that next hit, so to speak. Definitely, it can be pretty lonely if you're experiencing all that hardship on your own, or if you're going through it with others but just not communicating it. Always have to talk about it. Well, I'm not biased on it, and I agree it's very much magic.

Y'know, it's crazy to me our paths have only crossed once and it was when we worked with Avicii. How've you been, man? It's been way too fucking long, I swear. @famemartin

Tell me about it! Always wanted to work with you and the band, but it never seems to have come to fruition. Perhaps one day, we'll blow the minds of everybody and produce a banger together. I've been amazing! Busy with touring, the past two and a half years, and now it's over, I don't quite know what to do with myself. How about you?

Long and goes by way too quick. You ever see yourself doing it all again, or even bigger next time ? Yes ! I was doing some traveling with my kids, clutching onto everything as a mom before my son headed off the college, which, he is; but it was just pure magnetic joy as that concert. It's damn ridiculous how much of a genius you are. I mean, way to pull at everyone else's heart strings, i imagine if you combined all the tears people have shed through out the years listening to your music, it'd be an entire ocean. I absolutely agree. I somehow enjoy that chaos. The mini arguments over who's music gets played, and somehow, the person with the map getting us lost. I'm serious, start with a cool hat, one of a kind chris martin creation. And just remember who suggested it, and who's head also gets cold occasionally.

I don't know if we'd go even bigger, if we can find a way to keep the emissions low for it, then possibly. But I don't want to make a promise I can't keep. That's so lovely, I'm glad you got to have that time together - kids going off to college is such a big moment, that making the most of the time you have with them is a big deal. I write a lot of the songs, sure, but most of the magic comes from everybody else. I just string a few words and chords together! Alright, I will. If it's really terrible, just know it comes from a place of love.

I'm glad that you took breaks. If you didn't then I would be quite concerned about not only your physical health but also your mental. And here I thought with my 81 shows that I was doing a lot. That barely compares. I'm fully of amazing ideas so you're welcome.

Yeah, don't worry, we did. Not sure the longest we went without touring in that time, but it was a few months. 81 is still a lot! Especially if it's more compacted. So if I ever need ideas about anything, can I come to you?

I can believe that it still has everyone's tongues going off about it. Oh, I love that, touring with a side of consciousness. You're telling a model, this is a little moment of giggle, but it's not fair to say someone will assume an assumption about you? But yes, I definitely want to know how working out just makes you feel healthy, keeping even a chill routine. Do you get a lot of compliments on this?

It's in the general zeitgeist now, isn't it. It takes a lot for a viral moment to achieve that status, but it's hilarious. Oh yeah, we didn't tour one of our albums because we didn't feel like we were in a place where we could tour more environmentally consciously until we'd given it more thought, so that's what this last tour was, years of planning. Well, my working out is basically just doing cardio stuff. It's not like I'm going to a gym to lift weights, that's not really my thing. I love going for walks, swimming, doing yoga, those kind of activities. I get a few.

That is a lot. It was more than I realised. Oh, I am taking a good break now. A much needed one.

Oh, it really was! Well, I'm single, my oldest is at college, and my youngest is off doing his thing, so the house is pretty quiet these days. Who isn't a fan of you, man? I don't know anybody who doesn't love you in everything they've seen you in. What are you working on these days?

It was so special. It was my first time hosting yes, and my mother's anniversary and I just felt so surrounded by her energy the whole night. Billie from Green Day; he was on tour for like two years near enough, and he's already back in the studio working on stuff slowly. Tony Gilroy's next picture it's called Behemoth! it's about a cellist working in LA who scores movies, he's just returned from a bit of a hiatus, and the movie is told in flashbacks and as it goes on you learn why he had to leave in the first place. So I've been learning how to handle a cello for a few months, it's been interesting.

I didn't realise it was that, too, what a day for you! I'm glad I got to be a small part of a special time for you. Wow, Billie? He's a handsome guy, so talk about a match made in heaven. Makes great music, too. It's the musician's curse, we struggle to think about anything but making more music. We can't sit still for a moment. That sounds like an amazing story, I already can't wait to watch it. Cello is a tough instrument. Honestly, learning any instrument when you're older than 20 is a real struggle, so I have huge respect for you, man.

three and a half year tour? what the hell?! i mean, i guess i don't know shit about music but do most tours take that long? have you tried taking a long walk on a beach or maybe going out to a bar and being social? i highly recommend the second one over the first but that's just because i don't like sand and i do like alcohol haha. oh i think we all know who you are. you're the guy who found the cheater in the crowd. nice catch. i have wanted to ask for, well, since it happened really; did you know they were there or was that really just a total fluke? because i find it hard to believe that it was just a total shock that you found them in a crowd like that.

No, most tours don't last that long. But then most people tend to tour almost continuously, and that's obviously too exhausting for us, so we do even more shows, but with a few breaks in between. But it's still the same tour. We did go to quite a few places twice, though, I'll admit. Being social? What's that? Technically, the camera person did, I just joked about the two people having an affair, and then it turned out to be true - if they had been chill, that clip wouldn't have gone viral. It was during a part of the show where we'd have lots of people featured on the big screen, it just happened that those two ended up being a part of it.

we've been enjoying it despite having not having the last piece of the busted guys. it's going to be like that?! the fact you're team mcfly makes me happy for some stupid reason. my hobbies are my jobs so i have to find things outside of it. like drawing, motorbiking, cooking and baking. i'm aware cooking is a necessity and so much a hobby; but it can be if you're trying out new recipes. oh god for recommendations - there's so many to choose from. i've been tempted to buy the home alone one or hogwarts to start with. they did have a ghostbusters one that i believe has since been retired. band names are hard at times so my love of back to the future was a blessing really.

Yeah, I heard James has been really unwell - send him mine and my band's love, we think the world of him. Maybe next time you all tour together, because I feel like you're having so much fun doing it, he'll be able to join. I think that's the biggest issue with being a musician, your favourite pastime is making music, that's why you do it as a job. It would be like an actor sitting and quoting Shakespeare all day when they've got a summer off work. Our passion is unrelenting! Not that I dislike it, obviously, but it's good to break out of it every now and then. They got rid of the Ghostbusters one? That sucks. I'll have to have a look at what they've got, though. I remember seeing one of the Titanic, and thought... there's no way I'll give that thing structural integrity. It's such a great franchise, and being able to have Michael on stage with us a couple of times, especially to play Johnny B Goode as been a dream come true, he's such a sweet man.

Hello lad!!! Might I say your tour was absolutely amazing and I loved it. Although 3 and a half years? Hell how did you do that? That’s crazy and impressive. Post tour blues are the worst but I’d recommend doing little things that make you happy, whatever that is. For me that’s taking time to myself to either exercise or cook or enjoy some shows, or hanging out with mates or loved ones. Also I don’t think you need the introduction but hi I’m Niall and I’m a big fan.

Thank you, Niall! I loved the chance to get to see The Show, you're brilliant, mate. I could watch you perform all day. I do love doing yoga and going for long walks in nature, that's for sure. But I suppose I like always having something to look forward to, you know what I mean? A show, or a release, or some studio time, I'm awful at just passing the time.

Why are you feeling the blues? We do, and we're trained to handle it all and there's some breaks and such. Not too long but it's also all good times when with people you really get along with. Haha, that might help some, you're not wrong there. Oh? Well, this is a huge moment for me. Um — yeah, are you keeping up with Aespa then?

The come-down after a long tour is... very hard to describe, that's for sure. It's just that, really. I suppose being in groups, you have that sense of comradery, you want to all work hard, but look out for each other, too. That's my favourite thing about being in a band, knowing we're there for each other no matter what. I try to keep up with the magic coming out of Korea as much as possible! That's where the musical revolution has been happening in the last decade, not in the West.

PRIVATE: I’m not looking for you to be the villain here, Chris. But don’t act like this is some mutual misunderstanding we just drifted into. You made choices, quiet ones and careful ones, that kept everything comfortable for you and left me standing still. That’s not nothing. I’m not angry that you didn’t want more kids. I’m angry that in a way you gave me hope with that ring, hope that maybe one day you'd change your mind. You knew what I wanted, and you still chose to propose. You let me believe we were building the same life when we weren’t even in the same book. But you know what? Everything happens for a reason. I have an amazing husband and a daughter who is my world. We've both moved on and maybe this is the closure that I needed.

Private: That might not be your intention, but it certainly sounds like you're making me out to be a villain. Like I was intentionally deceiving you to keep you in my life, but that's not true at all. I've never been dishonest with you. You do, and I'm so glad that you've found happiness with Sam and been able to have a family of your own. I'm just sorry that I wasn't the one able to give you that.

Okay, let me tell you, I had the great pleasure to see the show twice in different cities, and I was mesmerized, one of the best shows ever! my kids loved it and I was even more enchanted with it. You, the band, the whole crew created magic. It's incredible! and I didn't know it lasted almost 3 years. Did you break any kind of record? because it feels like one of the best tours EVER.

No way! Which cities? Not that it matters much, but every show is a little bit different. The crew are what make it magic, no question about that. Sure, me and the guys play some good songs, but we see our concerts as an experience, and we're only a small part of that. We did break a few records here and there. We were the highest grossing tour of all time for a bit, then queen Taylor herself overtook us with Eras, but we'll happily sit second, behind her. It was the highest tour attendance of all time, and a number of venues we played at, we broke attendance records. So, you know, not much at all.

That is true about the venues. The capacity for the Novello is 1146. I just roughly worked out how many shows I did over the two times I was there, and the capacity and that is 1,719,000. So nowhere near as many as you. Oh, I will have a while before I don't focus on that.

Holy shit, that's still an incredible figure, though! And you've definitely done way more shows. Have you taken a good break now, though?
