Hiss-tory lesson
I’m doing Little Shop of Horrors at my school and I’m playing Audrey so I made art of that!
HEAR ME OUT-
“John, would you like to grab lunch?”
“No, thank you, Sarah. I’ve got a date.”
Every week Sarah asks John for lunch, every week he turns her down.
“When are we going to get to meet your mysterious date, John? It’s been a year.”
John smiles. He never answers.
As is his weekly routine, he buys himself a sandwich from a nearby café, and stops to pick up a bouquet of roses as well. Sometimes he doesn’t buy the sandwich, but he never fails to bring the flowers.
As usual, he settles himself next to the headstone and pulls out his sandwich to eat. He talks, speaking of his day and of his troubles, pretending like Sherlock was still there. Pretending that it was just the two of them having lunch together. Pretending like nothing had changed. Pretending like he had gotten the courage to ask his best friend out while he still had the chance.
But it was too late then, wasn’t it? All he can do is pretend. So he does, and he talks. Sometimes he likes to imagine that Sherlock can hear him.
Then one day, Sherlock does.
The next installment of the 30 Day OTP Challenge. Full view for better quality. It’s a relatively large file.
Day 4: On a Date.

New header image!!
Omg I’m so sorry I haven’t posted in like 5 months. I’ve been really busy with school and summer school and on top of that, I haven’t been feeling inspired by anything.
I was checking out my page and I saw my header image is really old, from when I first started my blog. Now that who knows how many years have passed, I wanted to update it since my style and skill has changed and the fandoms I’m in have changed. I’ve gotten into many new fandoms recently so I’m gonna start posting more.
Please enjoy this random collection of all my favourite characters (short kings in front)!
Gay Easter Eggs in BBC Sherlock
(I trust the above requires no explanation.)
Perhaps someone has done this before, but I wanted to put together a compilation of gay easter eggs in the show that I’ve seen other people point out and/or have thoughts on myself. So here it is!
When I say “easter eggs,” I’m thinking of small clues that the show creators included in the set designs, music choices, and other details of the show to reference that Sherlock and John are in love. I’m thinking of things you could miss at first, especially little clues that often require a bit of extra information or require observations across episodes to understand.
Of course, there’s also lots of subtext woven into the show, moments where interpreting the dialogue or visuals in a certain way tells us something about Sherlock, John, and/or the state of their feelings for one another. I’m not sure if I can clearly define “subtext” versus “easter eggs” and explain what distinguishes them, but at least to me, several of the things I’ve listed here seem a bit different from what people often refer to as subtext. Maybe subtext is about uncovering the layers to a piece of dialogue or an action that takes place in plain sight and seeing how that impacts our interpretation of the story, but easter eggs are about spotting smaller, hidden details. I’m not trained in literary or film studies, though, and I’m not trying to be doctrinaire about this at all! This list is just for fun, anyway. (The above image might not actually count as an easter egg, but I couldn’t resist including it here. Indulge me.)
The more I read about this show and the harder I look, the more I think that hardly anything is there on accident. All these easter eggs must have been included on purpose. The creators knew they were telling a love story all along.
I’ve linked to the posts where I initially saw people point these out or to other good sources, and for some of these I’ve added my own commentary/observations/interpretations. I’m sure there are many other easter eggs that I’ve missed! What have you spotted?
John’s PIN in TBB – When John tries to pay for his groceries at the beginning of the episode, we see that his PIN is 743. In ASIB, Irene’s code to unlock her phone is SHER, which would be 7437 on a phone keypad. So, John’s PIN is a clue that he is or will be in love with Sherlock. Source: @loudest-subtext-in-tv, here.
Shaftesbury Avenue, 20m from Piccadilly Circus in TBB – While investigating in Chinatown, Sherlock and John bump into each other at what used to be a cruising spot for gay men in London. Source: @the-signs-of-two, here.
Archer the American in ASIB – In the scene where the American CIA agents try to get Sherlock to open Irene’s safe, the head CIA agent pressures Sherlock by threatening to have one of his men shoot John. The agent says: “Mr. Archer, on the count of three, shoot Dr. Watson.” Ordering someone named “Archer” to shoot John could be a reference to Arthur Conan Doyle’s poem “The Blind Archer,” which is about Cupid and describes Cupid shooting two men who sound an awful lot like Sherlock and John. Source: couldntpossiblycomment, here.
“¿Dónde Estás, Yolanda?” in TEH – The song that plays during the scene with John and Sherlock’s disastrous reunion at the Landmark restaurant is a cover of the song “¿Dónde Estás, Yolanda?” performed by the band Pink Martini. The Spanish lyrics to this song are about searching for a long-lost lover, which is fitting for the scene where John sees Sherlock again for the first time since his fall. Notably, the creators didn’t use the first of the two versions of this song that Pink Martini has released. The band’s first version appears on their 1997 studio album Sympathique and features a man singing about a woman. Instead of using that version, the creators used the version from Pink Martini’s 2011 compilation album A Retrospective, in which China Forbes performs most of the vocals. So, the creators deliberately chose a remade version of the song in which a woman sings about a woman. They chose a gay song about searching for a long-lost lover for Sherlock and John’s reunion. abrae (@tea-and-liminality on tumblr) has a meta with more to say about the use of this song here.
John’s “oscillation on the pavement” in TEH – In TSOT, John observes a potential client standing outside 221B and trying to make up her mind as to whether to come in. Sherlock tells John “I’ve seen those symptoms before. Oscillation on the pavement always means there’s a love affair.” In the previous episode, John came to visit Sherlock at 221B but hesitated on the pavement outside, staring at the door and trying to decide whether to go in. Sherlock’s comment, “I’ve seen those symptoms before,” is a hint that we, the audience, have also seen those symptoms before—with John in the previous episode. Source: @bidoctor, here. (I saw someone else point out that last part about Sherlock’s hint to the audience, but I can’t find that post, sorry!)
Lilac dresses in TSOT – While planning John and Mary’s wedding, Sherlock chooses lilac-colored dresses for the bridesmaids. When John tells Sherlock that he likes the bridesmaids in purple, Sherlock pointedly corrects him by stating that the dresses are lilac. Apparently, “In Victorian times, giving a lilac meant that the giver is trying to remind the receiver of a first love.” So by dressing the bridesmaids in lilac, Sherlock is trying to remind John of his first love: himself, Sherlock. My heart breaks. Source: @asherlockstudy, here.
Putting the horns on Mary and Janine in TSOT and HLV – In TSOT, there’s a shot where Mary gives Sherlock and John a thumbs up before they head out on a case. The way Mary is standing, the horns on Sherlock’s cow skull thing on the wall behind her are placed right over her head. (I always thought this shot looked pretty weird, but now I see that it must have been intentional!) In the HLV scene with Janine at 221B, there’s a moment when Janine steps in front of John in the frame to kiss Sherlock, and her movement positions the horns right over her head. “Putting the horns” on someone means cheating on them. So in both cases, placing the horns right above Mary’s and Janine’s heads indicates to the audience that Sherlock and John are the real relationship in this show. Source: this post from multiple users on the @sherlockmeta blog.
The architecture of Sherlock’s mind palace in HLV – In the mind palace scene after Mary shoots Sherlock, the architecture of Sherlock’s mind palace is based on locations from ASIP. Sherlock literally built his mind palace out of places from his first case with John, illustrating that his relationship with John is what grounds him and that it means everything to him. abrae has some very helpful screencaps of this here (and I would recommend that whole meta, btw!)
The glasshouse scene in TAB – In TAB, the Victorian John tries to ask Sherlock about his sexuality and sexual history while they’re sitting in a glasshouse. In Victorian Britain, “glasshouse” was another term for a military prison. So John, a military veteran, asks Sherlock about his sexuality in a setting that represents where he would have been sent if he had acted upon his homosexual desires at a time when homosexuality was criminalized. What do we say about coincidences? The universe is rarely so lazy.
Bilbo, knowing for a fact Thorin doesn't know what flowers mean to hobbits: Can I braid some flowers in your hair?
Thorin, knowing for a fact Bilbo doesn't know what braids mean to dwarves: Oh of course, what a nice gesture of friendship.
Gandalf, a few feet away: Are they getting engaged before realizing they love each other back????
Got a bit inspired by @brilliantinsultsgalore ‘s comment.
Okay but in an Everybody Lives!AU where Bilbo stays in Erebor after getting the eagles to fly him to the Shire and back to get his stuff and leave Bag End to Primula and Drogo. He’s out in the market when the caravan with Gimli and Gloins wife Milli and Fundin and Dis all arrive. (Possibly Frerin too, if this is a world where he survived Azanulbizar and stayed with Dis to help run Ered Luin during the quest.)
Gimli wanders off into the market while the adults are all talking, trying to get everyone settled, one of the merchants takes a disliking to him and starts yelling at him. This draws Bilbo’s attention, and our hobbit steps in to defend Gimli.
Now, it’s important to note that Kili and Fili are little shits at heart, who had overheard Bilbo telling Ori what flowers meant to hobbits early on for his chronicles, and took it upon themselves to fill everyone but Thorin in so that they could place bets on when the two would realize. And when they wrote to Dis, they left out the part where Bilbo and Thorin hadn’t really realized that they had each proposed to one another.
This leads to a grateful Gimli after Bilbo introduced himself after handling the merchant blurting out in surprise something along the lines of “Oh, you’re Thorin’s fiancé!”
Cue Bilbo carefully trying to figure out what this random dwarf lad means (because surely he hasn’t seen the flowers in Thorin’s hair that Bilbo replaces once a week and wouldn’t know what they meant or that they were from Bilbo himself). This is when the adults find them, Dwalin in tow.
“Gimli, there you are. Don’t go wandering off like that.” Milli exclaims while wrapping an arm around Gimli’s shoulders. Bilbo blinks once, twice, as Milli turns her attention to him. “Who’s this, then?” Bilbo swiftly introduces himself and Dis interrupts.
“Ah, so this is my future brother in law. Fili and Kili have been singing your praises in their letters.” Bilbo’s eyes widened slightly before turning his gaze towards Dwalin.
“Have I ended up in alternate universe somehow or is this one of the boys’ pranks?”
“What prank? Did the princes do something?” Bilbo’s eyebrows nearly disappeared into his curls.
“Why are they calling me Thorin’s fiancé??” Bilbo demanded.
“Because you are. You braided his hair. That’s how dwarves get engaged, burglar.” Dwalin grunted as Bilbo’s jaw dropped.
“WHAT?!?!?” Bilbo practically shrieked before turning and storming towards the mountain proper, intent of finding the dwarven king.
Needless to say that when the two got married the following Durin’s Day, Fili and Kili were two smug little shits.
I had a dumb thought (x)
Please do not send me asks for donations
Here's why:
I have NO money to give you
I'm not a popular enough blog that I will give you any reach
I am a minor, and most of my followers are too
It makes me feel extremely guilty
Seeing pictures of injuries or hospitals etc are triggering for me (which are in most intro posts for this sort of thing)
They are always worded in a way that makes me feel like I am a murderer if I don't donate
It makes me feel uncomfortable
I said I don't want them, and my boundaries should be respected
I can't tell what is a bot and what isn't
I get a lot of spam from this. It is disappointing to see 10 new asks in my inbox just to be the same ask for donations over and over
Please, just respect the fact that I have said this.
Edit: To all the people reblogging this, I'm sorry you have had to deal with this too. And yes, you can put this in your pinned post! Stay safe <3
IMO the fanon interpretation of the Dark Sides’ dynamic ignores the fascinating canon implications that they’re more like forced family than anything resembling found family. These are three characters who genuinely do not seem to get along— at the very least, Virgil has made it clear that his function as a Side does not mesh well with either Janus or Remus’s functions, and the moment he saw an opportunity to be accepted by the others he ditched them with absolutely no remorse or lingering attachment. Meanwhile the dubiously canon interactions Janus has with Remus come off as him putting up with Remus’s antics simply because what else is he going to do? The most friendly the two of them ever get is when they’re collaborating to screw with c!Thomas— it’s like they’re coworkers who have nothing else in common besides their overlapping goals. The three currently introduced ‘Dark Side’ characters are united only in the fact that they were all outcasts. ‘The Dark Sides’ isn’t even a meaningful phrase, it’s something Roman came up with on the spot to lump together all the Sides that were too complicated and ambiguous to be part of the OG triad. Virgil doesn’t even use the phrase ‘Dark Sides’, he specifically made the point to call Remus and Janus ‘the others’ instead. He knows he used to be part of That group but it wasn’t because he actually identified with them, it’s because everyone else grouped him with them and until AA—maybe even until Fitting In— he thought his only option was to double down on being an antagonist and collaborate with the other ‘antagonist’ Sides no matter how uneasy they made him.
The Dark Sides are those roommates with no prior history who weren’t able to change their contract in time. They’re the students who got put in a group project together and have wildly different ideas on how to approach the material. They’re the only remaining members of a dying club trying desperately to find some reason to keep hanging out together so the club doesn’t die. They’re the kids who all got detention on the same day and figured talking to each other was better than complete solitude. They’re the inhabitants of that one abandoned lunch table in the back of the cafeteria because no other table will take them.

!ROTT spoilers!
Okay so I’ve finally finished the Tales of Arcadia trilogy and I wanted to give my thoughts on ROTT. I set my expectations very low, since everyone was saying the movie is trash and it really wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. The pregnancy subplot did make me genuinely uncomfortable, but other than that it was okay. I think the problem with the ending though, is the world that the creators set up.
They specifically say over and over again that Jim is the chosen one and it is literally impossible for him to give up the amulet without dying. They even show what life would be like if Jim wasn’t the trollhunter and the world literally ends. But he is able to give up the amulet which goes against what has been established. But another thing I’m noticing that I haven’t seen discussed is that Jim is literally the chosen one. It’s been said time and time again, but the difference is that now Toby goes to the canals and he gets the amulet. If Jim really was the chosen one, then the amulet would wait for him to find it and call his name. But this ending just makes the point that Jim isn’t special, the amulet just goes to the first person to stumble upon it, which I don’t like the idea of.
Lastly, I just hate the fact that the viewer spends so much time with the show, and they emotionally connect to the plot and characters, like I’ve cried at least four times watching this show. And it just feels wrong for the viewer to go through so much with the series, and then the creators just erase everything. It’s like when you’re watching an episode of a show and it all turns out to be a dream. Like I was emotionally invested in that and you’re telling me none of it actually happened??
These are just my thoughts but other than the ending and the pregnancy plot, I actually enjoyed the movie and cried a few times. I’m glad I’m done the show cuz now I can rewatch the beginning to see the development with each character.
I just got into Trollhunters this week
It’s so awesome and literally has me sobbing 😭
