this is the most innocent yak i have ever seen. this lifted my spirits a little.
One time my brother tried to yank away my “towel hat”, and was promptly horrified when I yelled in pain.
“I didn’t know your hair was IN there!!” he cried.
Boys.
WAIT YOURE HAIR IS IN THE TWISTY PART?!
Oh dear
I’ve seen this post several times and never actually seen anyone actually explain how to do the hair twist that long haired people can do, so I drew a tutorial. berrykoolaid
reblogging for demonstration because you learn something new every day
Long hair all my life, and yes, hair in the twisty part is critical to towel hat success.
“You beat the shit out of me. Cracked one of my ribs. I got a right to hold a grudge.”
“Never let go that someone who wouldn’t mind waking up with you in the morning, seeing you in wrinkles and gray hair, but still falls for you all over again.”

Dear, wonderful Alex, do you have any fic recs around the 10-15k word range? Maybe some that aren't so well known but deserve some love?
Ok yeah I can do that. So lesser known fics in that word count range :) I only did complete ones btw. I included some older ones that are by well known authors but maybe haven’t been read in a while :)

It’s that time of year…
Bless the person running this account.
Team Belexis, why aren’t we talking about this?
Oh that man is so outnumbered and he loves it.
This gets more adorable by the year. My OTP. I can't.
don’t hate female characters for things that you love male characters for
Oh, guests.
Where I’m from, guest means invited person who is nice and kind while they’re in your space. On the internet, though, seems like guest is synonymous with asshole… sadness, really.
So… let’s break it down. What happens if you post an anonymous fanfic review that is mean:
Maybe the author laughs at you publicly. (Does this feel like winning, when you twitter stalk and see that people are talking about the hate you sent? Is this… victory? My guess is yes. Well. Go, you! Pompoms! /sarcasm)
Maybe the person knows you’re full of shit because they have high self esteem and faith in their own writing and they quietly delete it. (Sadness, for you. No more attention.)
Maybe they cry. (Isn’t that awesome?! “OMG, I made a stranger on the internet cry, you can say to all your friends!” Let me know how that one works out for you. Trust me, if your friends think that’s cool, that’s a sign you need new friends.)
Maybe they quit writing. (Does this feel so awesome to know you did that? Because it’s not. Not to anyone who is following the author’s work and wants the next chapter.)
Maybe the person is having the day/week/month from hell, and you’re adding to that. Perhaps you’re the straw that broke the camel’s back. Maybe they hurt themselves. Maybe they hurt someone else. Maybe. Maybe… Maybe…
Maybe you should stop being mean. It breaks my heart to see the hate that the authors get. Don’t like a story… here’s some advice that’s an oldie but a goodie… click the back button and go read something else.
friendly reminder… that is her side of the bed
bye ^^

We then went into the Beckett search […] Nathan sat in on every single woman we read and we probably read 140. (Favorite Castle Commentary)
Fan fiction is what literature might look like if it were reinvented from scratch after a nuclear apocalypse by a band of brilliant pop-culture junkies trapped in a sealed bunker. They don’t do it for money. That’s not what it’s about. The writers write it and put it up online just for the satisfaction. They’re fans, but they’re not silent, couchbound consumers of media. The culture talks to them, and they talk back to the culture in its own language.

This is probably the best, non-judgmental description of fan fiction I’ve ever heard of in main stream media.

So You Want To Write Fanfic
here are 10 quick tips for making that good fic, or at least making your fic look good
Tag and Bag: if your fanfic needs tags make them good, make them accurate, and don’t talk in them. You want to make it as easy as possible to attract readers. Tags on fanfic are for sorting not communicating, you have an entire fic’s worth of author’s notes for that
Bait, Hook, and Reel: your summary and title is what sells a reader after they’ve finished tag sorting. The part of the spear that you sharpen is the tip, the rest just has to hold together long enough to follow through
Apologize for NOTHING: all creators are self-conscious, we all feel shades of anxiety and embarrassment about our work. But if you don’t think your work is good, why should anyone else read it? Everyone starts somewhere
Bad Epithet, No Biscuit: kill this idea. Whether calling a boy with dark hair “the raven” or a character’s blue eyes ‘cerulean orbs’ don’t. Just don’t. Use names and pronouns because they are easier for readers to follow
An Ounce of Prevention: DO SOME RESEARCH! Every time you get something wrong in your story you lose at least one reader who knows better. You don’t need to be an expert, you just need to know enough to bluff your way through
Grammar U: grammar is about communication, where you put your comma to splice your run-on sentence is not nearly as important as framing dialogue correctly. It’s a readability issue. Grammar serves you and the reader, not the other way around
Cliché This: know ‘em, avoid ‘em or spin ‘em around until they’re flipped and fresh. Check TVtropes for specifics on your fandom
A Chuckle Darkly: think about the phrases you write. Does it make sense or just sound cool? It’s not a zero-sum game, but making sense is always the more important thing
Floridly Prosaic Mosaics of Prose: writing prettily is not a substitute for story. It’s easy to write florid prose, you can tell by how everyone does it. But only a few do it well enough to merit the distraction from reading a story
Pay It Forward: you like good fic? You want more good fic? Then be a good e-citizen, leave kudos and comments, be constructive, contribute meaningfully and critically to your fandom, and above all have fun! Also you should probably reblog this
All good points.
