thinking wistfully once again about the au where fox accidentally kills palpatine, and then the whole coruscant guard loyally weekend-at-bernies the chancellor of the republic around for three days, trying to find a way to fake palpatineās public death in a way that wonāt lead back to their commander before he can break out of the holding cell thorn has him in and actually turn himself in for murder to someone who cares.
historians argue for centuries about the complicated legacy of chancellor palpatine, the longest-sitting leader of the republic, who was found posthumously to have been heavily involved with both sides in the very war that he used to justify expanding the powers of the executive position to an extent never seen before or since; but who used those powers in the last three days of his life to pass a fleet of previously stalled progressive bills credited with ushering a new era of peace and prosperityā criminalizing graft and corruption in the senate, granting all clone troopers citizenship and backpay, strengthening loophole-filled anti-slavery laws, re-opening peaceful negotiations with individual separatist worlds, and requisitioning a new space-pinball machine for the neglected coruscant guard rec room.
theories abound as to what brought on this dramatic change of heart mere days before his unexpected demise, tripping on a loose cable on his way to an outdoor press conference andā despite the best efforts of his attending guardsā falling right over the platform railing into a vat of acid being transported by sanitation services. only the deeply hooded black cloak he had taken to wearing in those final days was recovered, in poor condition. it is preserved in the jedi archives to this day as a poignant reminder that anyone, however flawed, can make the choice to do good.
#he tries to tell like four different people about it and theyre just like yeah so?? and??Ā #okokokok but thinking about them needing to pull in some extemely unprepared trooper who just transferred to corrie guard because he doesĀ #a really unsettlingly good impression of palpatines voiceĀ #and he usually uses this to get free drinks from other troopers at 79s by saying something funny in the chancellors voiceĀ #and now hes crouched behind a chair trying to throw his voice while they puppet master a corpseĀ
Not only does that Shiny get a promotion, he also wins the Most Fucked Up Job Right After Deployment game that the Coruscant Guard has going. Dags, Lore and Trigger donāt win cause while they may have had to puppet the corpse, they had been on Coruscant for nearly a year. Poor Shiny has only been there a week.
OPās tags:
i canāt remember at this point if this was a text post or a vision from godĀ but i think about it all the timeĀ undecided if fox is That kind of martyrĀ or if he just really wants to stand in front of the assembled senate and tell them heād do it again

Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Alright, in one of the memes I posted today I brought up the fact I donāt think Jayce Talisās efforts with Zaun are to be congratulated. I got a reply about Jayce Talis doing much better than any other council members in the short time he was there. (Also this person is being very nice and letting me use their reply, please do not harass them.)
And they are absolutely correct. Jayce Talis did more for Piltover than any of the other council members. He was the most ethical member of the that council. Even Heimadinger was guilty of neglect. Jayce is trying his best, and his best is pretty dang good-
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā For Piltover.
Ā Whoo okay letās get on to the debate! (I need to thank you so very much for deciding to civil about this)
First off, I agree that Zaun deserves to have justice for all the hurt Piltover has done to it. The people who died, were beaten, fallen ill to the toxins that contaminated their waters. That Piltover MUST help Zaun with its financial issues, living conditions and the ill- oh wait that was pretty much what the treaty was about.
Letās first run down the treaty itself. Silco asked for free trade routes, blanket amnesty, unrestricted access to the hexgates, sovereignty and for Silco to have a seat on the Council (he mentions this to Jinx at the tea party). THAT can help with a lot of the problems Zaun faces immensely. Zaun being independent, pretty much being able to use Piltoverās immensely useful prize (the hexgates) and Silco being able to make decisions for Zaun in a high position of power is VERY helpful to Zaun. This is a lot to give by Piltoverās standards.
But all Jayce asks for is pretty little in comparison. He wants Silco to stop Shimmer productions ( which I also agree that Silco wouldnāt stop, so L on you Jayce), the hexgem ( which is HIS btw) and Jinx.Ā
Okay, Iām writing a separate paragraph for Jinx cause thereās quite a lot to unpack here. When those four kids robbed Jayceās apartment and set off an explosion accidently, I agree that the Council had no right to send enforcers off to abuse the citizens of the undercity. They had little to no proof that the people who committed the crime were Zaunites. This time, things are different. They have actual evidence that it was Jinx who committed crimes (which I remind you arenāt on the same ground as robbing. She was killing enforcers and blowing up Piltover buildings. To them, she is nothing but a terrorist. Someone who needs to be stopped before she kills again.)Ā
Jayce asking for Jinx is the right thing to do to prevent more people in Piltover being killed (and Zaunites too! Cause if she continued, things wouldāve reached to a point where Piltover wouldāve killed Zaunites in retaliation. Cycle of violence.) He wanted to put SIlco in Stillwater at first but then realized that that wouldāve made the treaty pretty pointless. Jinx is the next best thing at this point.
Is Jayce privileged? Yes! Did Jinx had the right to shoot the rocket at the council for all the pain it caused her? Yes! However all that did in the end was continue the cycle of violence.Ā
I believe with the knowledge Jayce had and what little he could do for the whole of Zaun is pretty much his downfall. However, that treaty was the best thing he couldāve done, he stepped up to do what no one else before did and that wouldāve worked had he not asked for Jinx (again, sheās just a terrorist to him).
This may be kind of off topic but I wonder what would compel Caitlyn to still don the Sheriff cap after people repeatedly failed to do the right thing while being under the influence of the Piltovan system.
I think itās because this is her attempt at doing the right thing. She knows what Zaun goes through with enforcers and her being Sheriff can help in that regard.Ā
Unlike the Sheriffs before her, she has a pretty close relationship with one of the Councilors (Jayce), so if she needs anything, she can ask him.Ā
Hereās the thing, even as sheriff she would only be a part of the police system. As far as we know almost all of the force is corrupt or prejudiced against zaun. And Iām pretty sure like they did with Jayce, the powers will turn against Cait the moment she tries to get in the way. Except there wonāt be people like Mel to convince her to look the other way? Or even if Jayce takes the role I donāt think itās in Caitās character to do so? So I think itās kind of given that she will butt heads with piltovan establishment throughout her stint.
I believe Cait would try anything in her power to help Zaun (and she has more experience when it comes to Zaun than any other Piltie, so that helps.)
Honestly, we can speculate anything at this point. I wonder how Arcane would deal with her being Sheriff.
(*little happy dance at the reply*) My argument isnāt that Jayce didnāt do the best thing he could have done- because he absolutely did. The measures he took out with the treaty were more likely to make sure the council agreed to let Zaun go. In his mind, he is fighting for Zaun.
I will maintain that Piltoverās system forces people into roles they would not choose. It is the villain in the story. Ā Jayce was placed in a position of power in the system, but it is still a system oppressing Zaun. Jayce took the least oppressive option.
In view of the story, great character development. HIs arc was absolutely beautiful, if a little rushed in the end.
But in the meme I was not speaking as someone who knew Jayce, but rather looking at it from the view of someone who does not have the privilage Jayce speaks with.
Like if I was a Zaunite, and I was sitting in the Last Drop- face sweaty and plastered with rock dust from the mines, or nose still smelling the chemicals I had worked all day- and I heard this story I would be pissed off. I would have lived through the enforcers coming down and roughing me up because some kids snuck into the wrong apartment. Hextech was a big deal, I am sure enough people put together the guy whose house blew up got to be a millionare while the Undercity had to go through a violent regime change. Trade flourished in Piltover- and how many of my relatives are dead because of shimmer or bad air. The work Iām doing is necessary for all the things Piltoverās trading, but Iām not seeing a penny. Ā Iām sitting and hearing the guy who murdered children gave us talked about how easy it would be to annihilate us- but if we gave up shimmer and the last of Vanderās kids (assuming word of Vi hadnāt spread) heād let us live and rule ourselves?
I donāt care what Silco would have asked for- he could have asked for his own hexgate, Iād have spit in the street whenever the name Jayce Talis came up.
As for Jinx and terrorism-
If Zaun was truly free, truly independent- Jayce had absolutely no business demanding her. Jayce was no longer in charge of Zaun. His jurisdiction ended. It was one of the signs that he wasnāt willing to honor his word, that the council wasnāt willing to honor its word. Because they were deciding what crimes were great enough that they had to step in and take power away from Zaun. Ā
People who abuse power (which is what Jayce was doing, though less so than anyone else) are very good at making people under them think violence is reasonable. It was never reasonable for a government to talk about killing off its own citizenry, which is what Jayce was doing. It was so normal to him. He vomited at the thought of violence at the bridge, couldnāt stand to see the consequences of his own actions at the factory. Jayce had the privilege of choosing not to be violent- and he chose to use that privilege to end it on Piltoverās side. Zaun was living with violence for generations, and had been shouldering all the consequences of that violence. Ā
Piltoverās system wouldnāt allow Jayce the freedom to not abuse his power. Action, inaction, there was no way he could act ethically. Jayce did the best he could, but I couldnāt imagine not hating his guts if I was from Zaun.
(As to the Sheriff thing- Caitlynās mother was in the room Jinx shot a bomb at. It would be less about governing than all out war, I suspect. Sheās no longer a police officer, sheās a general. She doesnāt have to play fair.)
Congrats, you missed the point entirely.
Everyone who watches Arcane knows whatās wrong between Zaun and Piltover, that kind of the set-up. We are shown through the constant comparison that Piltover is run oligarchs who are massively hoarding resources. Youāve just preached to the choir. You can identify the problem.
Now, the main goal of Multiple Characters is to fix that problem. So, what is stopping them? What is the massive problem standing in their way-
Especially since Merdada, Jayce, and Cassandra Kirraman ARE those oligarchs who you are placing the blame of Zaunās political, economical, and health crisis, and they are trying to make choices that help out Zaun.
What is your solution to the problem? How are the characters supposed to fix it? Jayce bargained for Zaunās independence for Jinx- which is UNETHICAL, but achieves the goal which is Zaunās independence. This is an amazing character moment for Jayce, but any Zaunite would piss on his grave, because he is STILL acting as an oppressor, even if he is making the situation better than it was.
If we want to assign blame, that is the set up, and it frankly isnāt helpful when we talk about societies evolving- because of the systems in place.
The Zaunite problems against Piltover, the antagonism between the two, is pretty straightforward. Piltoverās Villainy can unite people like Silco and Vander- but trying to find a solution to destroying the SYSTEM, is what tore them apart.
And the Piltover problems are how in the world do you fight a war with yourself? Jayce, Caitlyn, and Mel are trying to do the best thing, but whatās tripping them up isnāt as much the fact the council is corrupt, overly emotional, and unjust, but that the System has widdled away any check or balance to that.
And part of the problem with Jinxās final act of the season is not that those people didnāt didnāt deserve the violence, it is that long term Jinx set the system to be up any worse.
The individuals of Zaun were NOTHING, the individual oligarchs wer NOTHING, compared to what gave them the power in the first place, and they canāt even see the system really, let alone know how to destroy it- which again, is part of the problem.
Piltover is the big bad Villain, even Jayce, who was high up, new and fresh, couldnāt game it, so what makes you think that the oligarchs are anywhere close to the main villains of this story?

Real shame thereās no Arcane fic where Jayce makes good on hisĀ āIf my own family wonāt help me, Iāll find someone who willā (emphasis mine) line and he goes back to the Lanes to find that someone just in time to meet a girl named Vi at Benzoās (because of course he has no idea where to start looking for that someone) waiting for the enforcers and they strike up a tentative camaraderie/blossom of friendship and so days later when Jayce meets an industrialist named Silco who promises to help him realize his Hextech dream he also meets a little girl named Powder that heād heard stories about a promised to look out for if he could and he agrees and Zaun ends up with the power of Jayce-Singed and the chaos of Jayce-Jinx. And then Jayce becomes a mad scientist type who shacks up with Viktor and Vi or something idk. Like itās a real bummer this doesnāt exist in this timeline.
