Strongly and intentionally ignoring all the bullshit that happened in the middle, it's actually probably a very good thing my mom and dad aren't living retired life together, because my mom's version of retired life that she's currently happily living is waking up, having coffee near the lake, then reading and playing iPad games for 14 hours with the dog asleep nearby. And my dad's version of retired life is I get a text from him with a picture of 1,000,000 hot air balloons in the sky with a caption like "At the New Mexico Hot Air Balloon Festival 🙂" which is a thing that clearly sprung into existence just for this text

i think it needs to be said that ffn did not just purge once in 2002, they purged fics without warning, en masse, many, many times. (same with LJ). ao3 was born from the early purges but the reason people kept moving there was because their fics were perpetually being deleted with no warning on other sites.

not to be shake my cane on the lawn, but fandom was different when your fanworks were like grafitti. and every year, it's becoming more and more clear that people can't really appreciate ao3's stance and stability when they never had to walk by their art one day and see it's suddenly gone because it was gay, or horny, or even if it was neither, but the two characters you were allowed to tag for sorting and browsing were both women.
