What if oxygen is poisonous and it just takes 75-100 years to kill us?
My science teacher said he thinks thatās true actually
Yeah this is actually pretty much exactly what is going on. Itās why anti-oxidants are such a big deal. Bonus fact: oxygen oxidizes stuff in your cells or, in other words, itās not toxic, just setting you on fire very very slowly.
What if there are aliens out there but they subsist on entirely different substances and theyāre just scared as shit of us and our crazy ass hell planet? Once in a while some alien anthropologist type suggests checking out the people on this inhabited planet out towards the galaxyās edge. The other aliens just look at the naive academic with horror. No!! We do not go to that world. That is where the DEATH BREATHERS live. They recreationally consume poisons and are more or less composed of biological fire. Their atmosphere is made of rocket fuel. We must leave the DEATH BREATHERS in peace. Do not go there. Do not.
I tend to always reblog posts about humans being terrifying weirdos to aliens.
@brainsforbabyjesus
okay butā¦that is actually what went down on earth about 2.5 billion years ago.
Earth was doing just fine with a mostly nitrogen/carbon dioxide atmosphere and everyone was happy to go on living in anaerobic bliss and then cyanobacteria suddenly hit the scene, altered the atmosphere composition so that there was a ton of oxygen gas and killed practically everything (97% or more of all species on earth).
We are literally descendants of the DEATH BREATHERS and cyanobacteria is our deadly mother.
The cyanobacteria holocaust is so big, it doesnāt even have a cool name; itās just called āThe Great Oxygenation Eventā; the *second* most apocalyptic extinction event in our planetās history is the one thatās called THE GREAT DYING (the Permian-Triassic event, about 252 million years ago).
This shit makes like the rock-throwing that wiped out the dinosaurs look like kindergarten.
The Great Dying is my absolute favorite nickname for an epochal event.
Cyanobacteria, Mother of Death Breathers.
at what point in history do you think americans stopped having british accents
Actually, Americans still have the original British accent. We kept it over time and Britain didnāt. What we currently coin as a British accent developed in England during the 19th century among the upper class as a symbol of status. Historians often claim that Shakespeare sounds better in an American accent.
whAT THE FUCK
Iām too tired for this
Always add in the video that according to linguists, Native southern drawl is a slowed down British.
Tā be or not tābe, yāall.
Fun fact: Same thing happened with the French accent. French Canadians still have the original French accent from the 15th century.

Iāve been trying to find this post for months. Iām freakishly obsessed with this and want the truth of what early colonists sounded like.
Me 10 years ago: I never use online abbreviations! standard english all the time!
Me a couple of years ago: u kno wat fuck it
Me now: it is impossible to communicate effectively online without using internet slang due to the mixed mode format and lack of paralinguistic features. Things like lack of punctuation, abbreviations, acronyms and such all have their own connotations and communicate far more than their commonly accepted meaning. Linguistics has evolved. n u kno what i love it
