While a person with Walking Corpse syndrome is very much alive, in their own mind, they believe the opposite—that they are deceased, or simply do not exist anymore. Also known as Cotard delusion, it is a rare mental illness in which sufferers experience delusions that they are dead and that their bodies are decaying as they go about their daily lives. While the majority of sufferers deny their self-existence, some believe that they are immortal. Walking Corpse syndrome is prevalent in individuals afflicted with schizophrenia, bipolar disorders, brain injury, brain atrophy, seizure disorders, depression, and brain tumors. It is also more common in the elderly, and affects women more than men. Those suffering from Walking Corpse syndrome are so out of touch with reality that they cannot even recognize themselves, leading them to truly believe that they don’t exist. Since they now think they are dead, they may begin neglecting personal hygiene and even stop eating food; many patients have died of starvation because of this. While the exact cause of this disorder is unknown, studies suggest that it is a result of neural misfiring in the area of the brain responsible for facial recognition as well as the amygdala, which associates emotional responses with that recognition. Thankfully, Walking Corpse syndrome is treatable.

An interesting (and very poor quality) photo has recently emerged of Charles Manson, apparently chained to his ‘death bed’. This appears to be the last photo of Charles prior to his death on November 19, 2017.

Edit: The whole 'this appears to be' was apparent wishful thinking on my part. Although I did double check the day that this photo emerged...it was later proven to not be Charles Manson. But I still find it interesting. Leaving it up for that reason.

This photo, enhanced, is the only photo of Nancy, deceased, that has been made to public to date. The police found Nancy Lanza lying on her bed, the blankets are pulled neatly up around her waist, she has an orange towel with green and white stripes beneath her head. She has been shot in the head four times. “Three holes in the head in the area of left eyelid orbital region, center forehead, and left temporal region. A fourth entry was located in the outer corner of the left eye at the bifurcation of the eyelids. The holes are consistent with entry wounds.” (released section of Nancy Lanza’s autopsy report) When Adam shot her, her blood sprayed on the walls, on the ceiling, and all over the end of the rifle. “I just shot my two kids, and I shot my wife and now I’m going to shoot myself,” said Randall Coffland to a St. Charles, Illinois, 911 operator on 10 March, 2017. His two children, 16-year-old twins, Tiffany and Brittany, had both been shot in the head. His wife, Anjum, had been shot in the legs. “I want you to live and suffer like I did,” said Randall to Anjum. Both Tiffany and Brittany died in the home while Anjum survived. Randall shot himself dead after the 911 call. Randall and Anjum were estranged and just the month before the shocking murder/suicide, police were called to the home on a domestic disputed report, however it wasn’t violence related.
