I have been talking about a lot of stuff related to how Barnabas and Clive are eerily similar to each other, a mirror, a crooked mirror might be a suitable explanation. Now, I can't help but think about Jill and Benedikta. Jill could endure that long I think it's because she's also supported by her closeness to both Clive and Joshua, hence making her recover her faith in humanity in a way that's easier than Benedikta. Added by the fact she was able to continuously be close with folks from Hideaways in terms of bond and relationships, that further strengthened how humanity deserves a chance, at least in her eyes.

Benedikta, on the other hand, was betrayed by his own kin again and again. First she was sold by her own family, second she was abused by her master, third she was left behind by Cidolfus. Those ended up making her side with someone who could give her control although fleeting and fake, Barnabas. Why? Because it's only with him that she could wield power at ease. No helplessness. She wasn't given a chance to see another perspective of humanity because she was constantly being shoved by the harsh truth of how she could be easily thrown away. If you also consider her connection with her troops or even Barnabas, for me at least, those are more "professional" or "I'm here because it's my job" type. As simple as it is because when you see Garuda taken away from her, she feared that she would be replaced, she didn't even consider talking about this problem to find a solution or to ease her worry. Both Benedikta and Jill are similar, but they're also tragically different.

That's why, for me it's interesting how Final Fantasy XVI explored the theme of chance and perspective constantly, and the way they made their character mirrored each other. Not to mention both Jill and Clive then Barnabas and Benedikta are often shown as a partner. It's as if they are being presented by their alternative version if their fate was altered.
