Hello there! My name is Eclipse, and this is a selfship sideblog. I interact from @/lupinedreaming. This is blog fully focused on my selfship with R.orschach. I am nonsharing with him and am fairly serious about this selfship, but you are welcome to interact if you are simply generally a fan of the character and his source material.
As W.atchmen deals with dark and mature themes, sensitive topics and imagery will be present on this blog. I sometimes post NSFT too. Sensitive topics are tagged as ācw [thing]ā
Iām also anti-censorship and anti-harassment. I block very liberally and filter as necessary.
If you are a new follower, I encourage you to read my statement of boundaries, which you can read here.
š was either of you flirty during the pining stage? :3
pining stage ask game!
Walter was not. He is very much of the school of thought that if he shoves his emotions down as deep as possible, then he can ignore them, and they will eventually go away.
Seris was not intentionally flirty, but there were moments they flirted unintentionally, like touching him fore a little too long or talking about things they thought he might be interested in. :)

I just re-read Watchmen, a comic I loved as a teenager with a weird aura of "comic for adults, morally shady characters, etc.". Well, I still love it, Alan Moore's comic writing is just perfection. But compared to manga like Shingeki no Kyojin, Watchmen are actually quite wholesome.... x_x
If you have an f/o who's cynical or pessimistic: what if you're the one to make them see things differently?
As you grow closer and they watch you move through this world, your presence brings something into their life that they've unknowingly lackedācalm, joy, fun, laughter, peaceful silence, softnessāand in response, an unnamed ache within them starts to ease.
They're not sure how you do it, how you effortlessly lift the heavy shroud of darkness that hangs around them to let in the light. You don't seem to even realise how you're changing them, how their mindset has started to move away from views born of painful, bitter thorns of emotionādespair, anger, apathy, fearāand instead, a world of gentle, hopeful doubt has begun to grow, small but bright.
What if life can be good? What if people can be kind? What if the world can give, not just take? What if I can belong here?
What if I was wrong?
Slowly but surely, something shifts. The constant tension that follows in their wake begins to unwind itself from their shoulders; they smile more often and with increasing sincerity, their once-unheard laughter becoming familiar; they speak of future plans with excitement, and they start to see life with a clarity that has alluded them for what feels like a lifetime.
Whilst life can be painful and cruel, they think that maybe, just maybe... it can be good, too. It can be exciting, and peaceful, and beautiful. It can be bittersweet, and it can hurt whilst still being worthwhile. It's so much more complicated than they thought, and it leaves them with the daunting, wonderful realisation that there's so much more they still don't understand.
Though they might never admit it, they hope you continue to prove them wrong. With you, the world no longer seems as hopeless as it once did.
Bonus: if you struggle with cynical or pessimisitic thinking too, imagine how you and your f/o uplift each other.
Even without meaning to, even without realising, each of you brings something to the other that gently guides you both from a place of hurt to a life with more joy and possibility than you ever thought possible.
Characters will make a very nuanced choice that makes sense for their story arc and internal conflict, and audience members will be like "is anyone else going to misconstrue this in the most black and white, bad faith manner possible?"
Hello! Iām wondering if you have any advice about the recurring worry about losing love for oneās F/O? š¤ ā @lupinedreaming / @fawningfeline
@fawningfeline
Hi, Eclipse. The fear of losing feelings for a Fictional Other (F/O) is a surprisingly common, yet rarely discussed, source of anxiety within self-shipping and fic-writing communities. Because self-shipping sits at the unique intersection of emotional intimacy, creative hyperfixation, and personal identity, romantic ebbs and flows can feel terrifyingly high-stakes. For almost 30 years, I myself have done this dance.
When an F/O represents a core source of comfort, inspiration, or safe emotional processing, a sudden drop in emotional intensity can trigger an existential panic, leaving you wondering if youāre falling out of love, betraying the bond, or losing a vital part of your inner world.
I think one of the most important things is to distinguished between neurodivergent/creative hyperfixation and enduring emotional connection.
When you first connect with an F/O (or enter a new, intense phase of worldbuilding/writing around them), your brain floods with dopamine. Everything feels electric, vivid, and urgent. You want to consume media, write fic, make mood boards, and talk about them constantly.
Eventually, the brain seeks homeostasis. Dopamine levels drop to normal, baseline levels. This quiet drop is often misconstrued as "losing love," when in reality, it is simply your brain transitioning from acute excitement into settled, steady familiarity.
Real love, whether human or fictional, is not a permanent state of high-octane emotional arousal. It naturally shifts into a background presence. Quiet affection is not absence of affection.
The recurrent, intrusive worry, such as "What if I donāt love them anymore?", is often an anxiety loop, not a genuine reflection of your feelings. Ironically, the panic itself proves how deeply you care.
If you truly didn't care about your F/O anymore, you wouldn't feel distressed by the idea of drifting away. The anxiety exists precisely because the connection holds immense value to you. You wouldn't have found yourself in my inbox, asking about this.
When you constantly test your emotional state, such as "Do I feel butterflies right now? What about now? How about if I look at this picture?", you inadvertently kill spontaneity.
Emotional responses cannot perform on command under a microscope. Pressuring yourself to feel a specific intensity on demand will always result in emotional numbness.
Your brain uses the same pool of cognitive and emotional energy for everything in your life: stress, daily responsibilities, physical illness, creative output, and emotional immersion.
When your mental reserves are low, your brain will naturally triage non-essential functions. Deep emotional immersion, vivid visualization, and creative writing require significant energy.
Your ability to feel emotional resonance with anything will be temporarily muted. This includes including your F/O, real-world hobbies, or favorite media. Treat the lack of feeling as a biological signal to rest, not a moral or emotional failure regarding your bond.
Fictional connections exist entirely within a safe, internal space where you hold absolute agency. Unlike human relationships, which carry real-world interpersonal obligations, your connection with your F/O is meant to serve, comfort, and inspire you. Not burden you with guilt.
Just as long-term partners go through periods where they feel more like quiet roommates before rediscovering romance, F/O relationships have seasonal shifts. Sometimes an F/O takes the back seat while another interest shines. Months later, a re-watch, a new AU idea, or a specific life event will bring them roaring back to the foreground.
In our system, S.ephiroth actually calls these quiet lulls the "old married partner phase", joking that heās basically in his house-husband era while I am out socializing with the world and Tumblr now. He likes it to growing comforable with each other, but I feel like this can apply to F/O and self-shipping, too. Normalizing those calm, domestic quiet periods takes away the pressure to constantly perform high-intensity romance.
Your F/O does not feel abandoned, angry, or neglected when you step away. The lore, the tropes, the dynamics, and the deep internal history you built together are permanently preserved. You can pick them back up exactly where you left off whenever you are ready.
So, as always, I like to leave some tips on what you can do to calm the anxiety, since I know how that can be.
Instead of forcing active romance, such as writing, shipping, active daydreaming), allow your F/O to sit in the background. Let them just be in your space without expecting emotional fireworks. Think of it like sitting in quiet, comfortable silence with a partner in the same room while you both read separate books. Like parallel play.
Counterintuitively, step away for a week. Put away the fanart, stop re-reading old drafts, and engage with totally unrelated media or hobbies. Giving your brain a change of scenery lowers dopamine tolerance, making returning to your F/O feel fresh and comforting again later.
When you feel disconnected, step away from trying to feel romance and instead connect with fondness. Re-read an old favorite scene you wrote, look back at foundational notes from when the connection first clicked, or revisit a specific trope or sensory detail that defines your universe together. Focus on the history built rather than the immediate feeling.
When the worry pops up, answer it directly with a grounded, non-judgmental mantra, such as 'My brain is just resting right now. The bond is built on history, not constant excitement. They'll be right here when my energy comes back.'
