Maedhros quirked an eyebrow and leant back in his chair.

"It is not, though I suppose the answer also depends upon the circumstance of your sitting..."

Maedhros panted hard against Thranduil's lips before capturing them in a kiss once more. Tender, careful, and respectful.

He stayed like that — pressed tight against his husband, the air around them heavy and heated, until he gasped a small groan and pulled away enough from Thranduil to lay by his side. Laying with his eyes closed, his heart still beat hard in his chest, his pulse ticking visibly in his throat as he allowed his breath to even itself.

He wouldnt pull Thranduil to him, not yet, not when that small voice in his head reprimanded himself for acting so base with the Prince. He would allow Thranduil to do as he wished.

He would be worn out & pretty sore later on, most like walking funny or with a small limp from how rough they just were, but he’d bear it with a smile. That little beast inside him would be satiated only momentarily, then he’d be wanting to go for yet another round, but only if Maedhros was up for it.

Thranduil shifted onto his side, before tucking himself close to the redhead. The only sounds in the room belonged to the crackling fire & the soft panting escaping the two of them.

“That…was so good…”

Laying on his back and gazing at the ceiling, Maedhros allowed Thranduil to snuggle close to him, and hesitantly he wrapped an arm around the younger man's shoulders.

"I'm sorry," he said quietly, tension creeping back into his body. "I shouldn't have rushed you into that — I should have waited until a more appropriate time."

Lord Maedhros sat slumped in his seat at the head of the great table, head in his hand and ignoring his brother.

"You don't have to do this, you know that?" Maglor tried to reason, sat on his brother's right side and resting an elbow on the table.

"What choice do we have?" Maedhros huffed behind his hand. "We've alienated everyone else. Everyone hates us. At least this way he can strengthen our political ties."

Maglor scoffed and tapped the table. "This is the stupidest idea you've had."

Maedhros dropped his hand and watched his brother as he shook his head. "I thought treating with Morgoth was my stupidest idea?"

"Maitimo," Maglor said warningly. "You're condemning this Prince to a life he never wanted. What if he wants a wife and children? What if doesn't want any of this?"

"We don't always get the life we want. You should know that." Maedhros said grimly. "Besides, King Oropher is in agreement, and it will benefit his people too."

Maglor huffed and rose from his seat, striding from the hall. "You're a damned idiot, Maitimo!"

Maedhros sat in silence for a few moments after Maglor left before he stood and spoke to one of the servants. "Show King Oropher and Prince Thranduil in. I'm sure they would appreciate being out of the cold."

As Maedhros' swift footsteps died away down the hall, the only remaining noise in the bed chamber was from the crack of the fire that burned brightly in the hearth.

Himring was far from the natural elements of Eryn Lasgalen, being built as a military fortress from dark basalt — its walls sympathetically covered with panels of wood, tapestries and furs to stave off the chill air that whipped cruelly across the lands beyond the keep. But Maedhros had ever strived to make the keep as comfortable as possible. And so his bedchamber was filled with finely carved furniture, a small amount of personal possessions, boxes of jewellery, and arrangements of wall hangings and dried flowers to please the eye. Adjacent to the bed chamber was the bathing room and the dressing room, where an array of fine clothing was hung, and space enough made some of Thranduil's clothing also.

Thranduil was left alone for some time before Maedhros' distinctive footsteps were heard again and he re-entered the room followed by several servants carrying Thranduil's possessions, fresh towels and blankets, more wood for the fire, and a small feast of steaming hot food accompanied by plenty of wine.

"My apologies for taking so long —" Maedhros said somewhat flustered as he watched the servants expertly placing each item, some of which were taken to adjacent rooms. "Your father is settling into his quarters for the night, and he seems at ease with the arrangements we have made. Is there anything else I can have brought to you?"

Being so far up north was new to the prince, where the winters would be much harsher than the ones he grew accustomed to back in Eryn Lasgalen, but thanks to his future husband, Thranduil would grow used to it in due time. Whilst Maedhros was out discussing the good news with Oropher, the blonde made his way around the room, curiosity getting the better of him, leading to him checking out the decor inside the room. He would eventually add some touches of his own, but for now would steep in the slowly growing comfort of being in a new place with a new spouse. Soon those familiar footsteps grew closer once again, followed by them walking back into the room, various objects being brought in, including a warm meal.

“I’ll see to it later on that everything I brought is here, but for now just some food, then I’ll settle myself in for a bath once we’re finished. The warmth of the water will definitely help to relieve me of any cold I still feel. You’re more than welcome to join me in that regards.”

Maedhros watched several of the servants at once, observing as they milled about and set various objects down in the room, all while listening to Thranduil speak.

Nodding lightly in agreement and considering the comfort of the Prince and how best to have a bath arranged, his eyes grew wide as he turned quickly to stare at Thranduil.

'You're more than welcome to join me...'

Maedhros wanted to exclaim several things at once, but with servants in the vicinity, he could only make a series of facial expressions that ranged from embarrassed to mildly alarmed.

"I think that we should concentrate on supper first," he said, clearing his throat.

"Pull this at any time, and a servant will come," he explained as he walked to the door to greet whoever responded. And soon enough someone did come, and Maedhros spoke with them quietly before they bowed and left the Lords alone once more. "While we await food, would you like me to speak briefly with your father?"

“Does that also act as a signal for you to be by my side if I’m not in the mood to be alone, or is there something different that I’d use for that?”

After Maedhros asked if he’d be fine with him talking to Oropher, Thranduil gave a light nod.

“That’s alright. You can tell him.”

So there were other fortresses within at least a few days ride perhaps. Maedhros still couldn't figure where he was currently, or which wrong path he had taken, but the company seemed pleasant enough in the meantime.

"If that would be acceptable to yourself?" he asked, trying to quickly finish his plate of food without being too rude. "I can check on their welfare and that of their horses. To look after my people is a duty as much as I am a duty to them. I am not a selfish or cruel lord."

"I'm sorry you have to endure this, but such a union will strengthen both of our realms and our allies against common emenies. I just..." he paused and sighed. "I just hope you don't come to hate me for it."

“Even if I did, I’m sure we would talk about it. Best not to go to bed angry.”

"You are to be my husband. I wouldn't want you angry at me in any capacity. I am not like that, nor do I want or welcome that sort of relationship. I may come from a house borne of fire and wrath, but I would not want that directed at you."

His words were simple, yet laced with a soft, quiet honesty. Gazing at his betrothed, there was a promise of hurt in his eyes, as if the very thought of being hated by his spouse wounded him.

“Maedhros, I may be many things & have been called much more by not only your people but various others…but believe me when I say that I would rather sit down & talk about whatever problems we might be having as opposed to arguing or simply walking out. Breathing what could be interpreted as a sigh of relief. The redhead lay still in the ensuing silence, half forgetting that the man intended to be his betrothed — a man he had met only a few hours prior — was now laying against his chest.
