hi, I'm a high school English teacher and I love web weaving. I want to have my students do their own web weavings, but I'm not sure on the best way to go about making one. When you have an idea for one, as in, you settle on a theme, how do you find all the literature/media you weave into the theme? Do you just look up "poems about THEME" or what? Thanks for your help.

hi i know i am uhh 3 years late and i haven’t posted on this blog for several years but i just reread your ask and i felt so bad that i never answered it, because its so sweet.

honestly i just read a lot and i love art and once i decide on a theme i just think about it for a week or two. every time i remember a quote that would fit into the theme, i add it to a folder with the author/source. it’s also partially just the way my brain works. when i read something and there’s themes i enjoy, i just naturally associate it with other stuff ive read that dealt with the same theme in similar ways, and then once ive remembered the media, it’s easy to just google “media theme” to search for the exact quote im looking for, if i can’t remember the quote.

honestly as an assignment i would suggest first teaching your students about how to spot themes and carve connections between works, and then allow them to make their weaves about whatever draws their attention the most. or maybe read a bunch of poems about a specific theme and then let them draw the parallels with the quotes they think are about the same thing on their own.

i hope this is somehow still useful to you, if not to someone else.
