Description:

Mikasa is a woman suffering from clinical depression. There is one thing that she is sure of: she wants to die. But when she received some unexpected news that makes her death wish a reality, she starts to wonder if that was really what she wanted. She starts a journey to discover the truth about her biological parents that gave her up for adoption when she was a baby. This journey will guide her to cross paths with someone as broken as her, someone that hates her to death for what her biological family did to him. Will she have the courage to, for once, fight to live? or will she let him drag her to hell with him?

How to be happy

Description:

What would happen if Mikasa was pulled out of her universe into ours after Eren saved her? What would happen when Levi is pulled out of the rumbling straight into Mikasa's apartment in our world?

Author notes:

It is necessary to read or watch ‘Attack on Titan’ prior this book to be able to understand the story. This one can be said that is half canon verse half Alternate Universe since Levi jumps to our universe straight from the rumbling. This is one shot I did for Rivamika week. It’s mostly fluff and a little comedy.

Scene:

Levi felt more whiplashes on his back and he screamed in pain. Then he saw the men grabbing his mother, and one by one, abusing her too. He could hear her harsh breathing and the pain in her screams as she shouted,

"If you survive! Promise to get rid of anything good the clan has! Promise to kill them all!"

He whispered,

"I promised..."

Then he heard a familiar voice behind him shouting, "You couldn't protect them and now you can't even avenge them! You sorry excuse of a brother! " followed by more whiplashes.

"Who the fuck are you?!", Levi shouted.

"Do you really want to know you son of a bitch!"

"Show yourself!", Levi shouted.

Darkness again filled his vision, he heard steps coming closer to him but he couldn't see who was walking towards him. As the darkness dissipated, he recognized the room he was in now, it was the basement of his cabin. The basement where he tortured Mikasa. Where he tortured countless Draconians for information or just mere fun. When he looked at who was standing in front of him, he saw his reflection staring back at him. But, it wasn't him, it was his ruthless old self.

"I am still there and you can't deny it.", his old self said.

"No!", he shouted back angrily.

"Are you sure you wouldn't hurt her again? Come on, accept it, you enjoyed it. You will hurt her again and you will kill Draconians again because that's just who you are.", his old self said.

I started walking through the formation lines staring at the cadets one by one. I guess I tend to do this sort of thing to make them realize the seriousness of an expedition, and also because is fun to scare the shit out of them.

I started talking while walking through the formation and said: "The difference in judgment between you and me originates from different rules derived from experience."

I stopped in front of Mikasa Ackerman, the girl supposed to be worth 100 soldiers. I stared at her looking straight into her eyes for a moment, not even once she showed any hint of fear or intimidation, instead her eyes looked at mine with rage and defiance, challenging me back. This brat is going to be a pain in the ass. Without moving, still staring at her but addressing everyone, I said: "You will all respect and follow the orders of your superiors, this is non-negotiable, failing to follow orders can have deadly consequences out on the field". I saw her stiff her stance without breaking eye contact with me, I knew she was angrier, that was the point. I smirked at her and turn to the side to continue my speech...

...as I gave the first step away from her, I heard her mumbling something that I couldn't quite understand fully but I heard something along the lines of "shorty" and "ass".

I turned back to stare at her and said, "I thought I heard dirt moving around in the shape of an idiot. So, it was you?", I asked her.

"No Sir! I don't know what you are talking about, Sir!", she replied.

On the subject about parents needing to control their child's reading and invade their privacy in order to "protect" them from "inappropriate material:

Until I was in....college? At least? The vast, vast majority of the books I read were either a) assigned by my school or b) (the vast majority of my reading) provided to me by my mother.

My mom is a librarian. She filled our rooms with books, picked especially for us. She pointed out books on the shelves in our home library (separate from our bedroom shelves) that she thought we would like. She bought us books for birthdays, Christmas, and just stacks of recommendations. She once paid me $10 to read one of the Cirque Du Freak books because she said I needed "to be exposed to bad literature."

She respected my privacy in room, didn't go through my belongings. She explicitly pointed out to us that she wouldn't know if we took a particular book of the shelf, as long as we returned it, if we didn't want her to know we were reading it. She purposely brought us books that she didn't care for herself, because she thought we might find them valuable or enjoyable.

And if we wanted to read something she thought might upset or disturb us, she would explain why. She wouldn't stop us from reading it - just ask us to check in with her, to talk through it.

And so when I read something that upset or disturbed me, I would go to her. She would listen and talk through it with me.

If she said she didn't think I would like something, or that a book might disturb me, or that she thought I should wait until I was older, I listened to her.

She didn't need restrictions or control to protect me. Because she proved I could trust her.

Controlling kids is never about "protecting" them. It's just about control.

Omg lol, I've been kind of inactive in the fandom for a while. I've been... lost? **Depression**

Twisted Fate was my first 'whatever-english-write' thing. I got so frustrated with the way girls looked at the 'relationship' between Eren and Mika as something normal, 'ideal', when in reality, it is not healthy. So I wrote it to contrast Eren's treatment of Mikasa vs Levi's and explain how unhealthy this type of co-dependence can be.

'Saved by Deception' started as a concept when my husband told me to use my real-life technical knowledge as a base for my next story, and from there, I built the idea, thinking about what real-life issues I would like to talk about: fight/flight/freeze response, how victims of r@pe are attacked instead of protected, the science behind disassociation mixed with the biology of what can happen to your body during that moment, lgbt (more like how society sexualize lesbians), and H!tler re-incarnated as a cat bc why the fck not. It didn't end on a cliffhanger, but many things were left without closure that I plan (whenever-the-fck-I-get-my-mojo-back) for the sequel. The court case was lost, so the perpetrators are free (leaders of nations, billionaires, a bunch of people with a lot of power that where in the microship Mikasa's mom left); that will be addressed. Not only Levi's Backstory will be addressed but that entire generation and how everything connects to Mikasa, Levi, and the war of the clans.

Anyway, the other book if you haven't read yet is 'The power of Death' from all of my works; this was the one that has been more personal to me. The main topic is depression (suicidal ideations), but also addresses racism, and other topics like trauma, etc. Comedy has always been my coping mechanism, so it will always be present even when addressing very dark topics. **I'm fun at funerals, or so I've heard, meh.**

Anyway, whenever I find myself again and get my head out of the shadows, I'll start working on the sequel of SBD.

Hi! I've read all of your works, and I absolutely love them, especially the parts about feminism and depression. Will you continue writing fanfiction about rivamika?

I still have to finish part 2 of "Saved by Deception" so I guess, yes. Now, when? It's a tricky question, I have more or less what would be the base of the story but I've been lacking motivation to actually sit and write. But reading comments and questions like this help me to get the motivation needed for this. I'm also a perfectionist, and like to stick as close to reality as possible (hence all the sources of my info at the end of the chapters) and that requires a lot of time of reading books, and research papers... But it'll always be at the back of my mind until I get it over with, so I know I will.

You know Lily's bridge burning with her former friends and her response typically being to act like she discovered they were always terrible people makes me think a bit like how Onision's exes all apparently happen to be controlling abusive gold diggers or whatever else he wants to call them.

IE its sounds totally implausible to anyone who thinks about it for any period of time; all your ex friends are these same type of asshole/bastard? Either you have the worst luck with friends in the world or your making something up somewhere.
