Latest reblog reminds me of how much it pisses me the fuck off how every queer person alive has to adapt to the usamerican style of queerness lest we get shunned by the community for being too different. I feel the need to miss out a crucial detail I missed out in this post I made out of anger, and no, it doesn't add any silver linings or good context, it honestly only serves to make it worse.

In portuguese, much like spanish, we have no gender neutral pronouns. People who do not use ele/dele and ela/dela (he/him or she/her) all use whatever neopronoun suits them best in portuguese (ie elu/delu, eli/deli) because we have no access to a universal gender neutral pronoun like gringos do. When I brought this up upon them making fun of my "neopronouns", they said to suck it up, and that being foreign does not make neos valid.

In mocking people who use neopronouns in english, you are mocking a very large sum of latin american genderqueer and trans people.

I know various latin language speakers that struggle with their identities in their native tongue due to us not having they/them equivalents, so they are forced to let go of their, in example, brazilian queerness, to appease to anglos who would harass them and call them mockeries of trans people for not sticking to what The Cis want.

When non-anglos tell you the usamerican and british dominance over queer spaces ruins things for them, they mean it. We are forced to repress our identites because you people think they're too "out there and problematic". We are forced to suppress our own queer culture because we don't fit into your neat little boxes of what makes someone gay what makes someone a lesbian what makes someone trans or what makes someone anything else.

You tell us to remember "our queer elders", but do you know of any queer latin american figures? We learn your history, and you refuse to learn ours because you already have "too much on your plate". You disregard us and shame us for not fitting your ideals of queerness and using labels for ourselves you dislike, and try to baby us and tell us the proper way to be gay.

Your culture is not universal.

You are not saving queer people by making jabs at other queer people you don't personally get. Odds are you are harming an entire group of foreign queers you never bothered to consider, because your anglo bubble is too self important.

If you want to do queer people a real favour instead of getting mad at identities that existed long before you were even born, here. Make yourself useful. Donate to queer brazilian housing and support programs. Your beloved dollar is worth a lot more than the Real. Even five dollars help.

I'm just going to make a blanket statement, If you buy a dragon change whatever you feel like. Regene them, edit their bio, scatter them, trans their gender or make them gay, literally it's your dragon and not anyone else's concern outside of TOS breaks. Go nuts, have fun, have whimsy in your life!

If you're selling a dragon and are upset they have been: renamed, exalted unnamed, regened, had their pose changed, or had them Permababy'd/un Permababy'd, whatever, then here's a few tips!

A) don't sell the dragon

B) name them before selling

Is there a way to report users for posting works made with/by ai?

According to this news post from May 2023, AI works are not currently against the Terms of Service (whether that changes in the future, I have no way of knowing). In most cases, those works are not something that PAC will take action against.

Instead of reporting, I recommend you mute authors who post those works. That way you won't see them in your search results or tags in the future. To mute an author, click or tap on their username to visit their profile page, then click or tap on the Mute button you can find underneath their name.

At the moment, there is nothing in our Terms of Service that prohibits fanworks that are fully or partly generated with AI tools from being posted to the AO3, if they otherwise qualify as fanworks.

Our goals as an organization include maximum inclusivity of fanworks. This means not only the best fanworks, or the most popular fanworks, but all the fanworks that we can preserve. If fans are using AI to generate fanworks, then our current position is that this is also a type of work that is within our mandate to preserve.

Depending on the circumstances, AI-generated works could violate our anti-spam policies (e.g. if a creator posts a significant number in a short time). If you're uncertain whether a work violates our Terms of Service, you may always report it to our Policy & Abuse team using the link at the bottom of any page, and they can investigate.

This statement reflects AO3’s policy at the time of writing, as we wanted to be transparent with our users about what our current stance is and what can be done – and is being done – to mitigate scraping for AI datasets. However, these policies are also under discussion internally among AO3 volunteers. If we agree on changes to these in the future, those will be announced publicly; additionally, if there are any proposed changes to the AO3 Terms of Service, they will be made available for public comment as is required of any and all changes to our Terms of Service.

We hope that this helps to make things more clear – this is a complicated situation, and we’re doing our very best to address it in a way that doesn’t compromise AO3’s principles of maximum fanwork inclusivity or legitimate uses of the site. As discussions and approaches evolve, we will keep our users updated.

Just as an aside: even if it was against TOS, I feel like this would be a really difficult and subjective thing to accurately and fairly identify (except in the case of authors who explicitly said it was an AI work, of course) because everyone writes differently.

I've read fics that were really nonsensical, but it was a deliberate choice and explained in an author note.

I've read stuff that had limited, incorrect, or unusual vocab because the author wasn't writing in their native language.

I've read stuff that had plot discrepancies because the author confessed to being ill or exhausted when they wrote it.

I've read stuff with invented words that would look like gibberish out of context but served a deliberate and consistent purpose in a fic (the sci-fi genre alone is proof enough of this).

I've read stuff that I did kinda think was AI at a glance until I noticed an author note proudly stating that this was their first creative writing attempt and, on further investigation into more recent works, I noticed steady improvement in both their writing style and overall story ideas.

I absolutely do not defend AI creative works, but it would be deeply concerning to me if TOS measures were ever taken about identifying AI fics because it would likely just result in overzealous, kneejerk, or retaliatory user policing by other users, not viable procedures for the policy and abuse team to follow.

I'd rather AI works be allowed and labelled - and users make the choice to not engage with them - than AI works be officially disallowed, users using AI anyway but *not* labelling them, and the ensuing catastrophe of trying to identify which works are and are not AI.

So I know people are gonna be complaining about no zombie hatchling skins and I’m pretty disappointed about that too, but, can we all agree that the most important thing to push back on is the censorship of scars. The thing that isn’t just disappointing and annoying, but actually ableist and that people with more obvious scarring (e.g. burn survivors) have been talking about how other media censoring them or treating them like they’re frightening or “adult content” affects them for a while now. The fact that something reflecting an uncontrollable aspect of how real-life people, including children, appear is being put under the category of “content we don’t want displayed or communicated via our hatchlings.” The fact that healed scars are being put in the same “content” category as ACTIVE WOUNDS.

you just gotta figure out how to do the mitten thing! (everybody does it differently, so whatever works for you)

make a little mitten shape, a bump for the big thumb muscle, a line for where you want to knuckles to be (and where the fingers end), and you can work out how the hand does hand things~

you can make them more simple or more real, however you want! hands are weird, so don’t worry if they keep looking wrong for a while, once you figure out what works for you, it’ll click. If you practice like 10 or-so basic hand shapes, you can make slight variations on all those, and 10 turns into 20 different hand poses~

Good luck, you can do it, practice until you find your groove, hands are stupid, don’t worry if they don’t look right!

The absolute upper limit of what can be considered affordable for a home is 4x your income. Ideally it should be 3x, but 4x is the limit for reasonably stretching your budget.

Using Sacramento as an example, median home price is about $510k, and median household income is about $85,000

That number for Sacramento is 6x, and that's for a middling city with middling employment prospects. So the entire city for almost everyone living there is by definition unaffordable. And that's not as bad as it gets

Let's look at Toronto. Median income is around $91,000, median home price is just over $1,100,000. That's a ratio of 12:1. You would need to be making a quarter of a million dollars just to be able to qualify for a mortgage.

For a home to be affordable, one of two things need to happen: 1) incomes need to rise astronomically overnight or 2) home prices need to crash astronomically overnight

In Sacramento, that means the median income needs to double (to $170k per year), or home prices need to crash by 50%

In Toronto, that means incomes need to quadruple (to $370k per year) or home prices need to crash about 75%

This is how bad the housing crisis is. I don't think people truly understand the gravity of how bad it is. Home prices should not be this high. Incomes should not be this low. Look back 100 years and you won't find a time when affordability was this bad for everyone everywhere. Things must change
