Hi! You said in your post to talk to you if we need someone. I recently identified as ace and my dad is conservative so I’m scared to tell him. Also someone said to me I can’t ever have a romantic relationship because I don’t want sex so I’m having a mental breakdown. And I love your art<3

(Please, have in mind that I come from a allosexual speaking place, so please correct me if I said something wrong)

Yeah, having a conservative family is very hard. Explaining that you are asexual and what that means can be complicated, especially if you mention that it means you are part of the LGBTQIA+ community.

Coming out as asexual or aromantic can come accompanied by invisibility/denial, being very common to hear others say that "oh you just haven't found the right person yet" or "you just have been doing it wrong" or "you are a robot with no feelings". Such words are not true at all and really hard to hear.

Our society was built on this very allosexual point of view. We always hear people saying that sex is the best or the only way to truly connect with our partners, and that is definitely not true. There are many many many ways to express our love and care for someone, not just through sex or physical touch/intimacy. So please, don't think that only because you are asexual you won't find love and have a relationship. People who truly love you will consider you as a whole and respect your interest and boundaries.

We also don't see ace/aro representation in media often (the only ones I can thing about are Todd from Bojack Horseman and Isaac from Heartstopper) and that can be damaging as well.

Finnally, your fear is valid, coming out of the closet is not easy at all, specially to a conservative family. Take your time and come out when you feel ready. The first person you come out to is always yourself. I know sometimes can be hard to accept yourself but have in mind that your orientation/feelings are real and valid, the asexual comunity is growing and you are not alone in this.
