Goya “Il colosso” (attribuzione incerta 1808-1812)

Recenti studi attribuiscono ad un allievo di Goya il dipinto. L'opera mantiene un carisma e un impatto notevolissimi e certamente senza la lezione di Goya un dipinto così non sarebbe stato realizzato. Il Colosso che incombe su un'umanità impaurita e in fuga, rappresenta probabilmente la guerra, in quella posa da combattente, non si preoccupa dell'umanità ai suoi piedi, ormai è un organismo mostruoso che vive di vita propria. Nato dall'uomo ma ormai organismo più grande dei singoli uomini che l'hanno reso possibile, guarda altrove, è una macchina distruttrice che procederà cieca e incurante dei disastri, fino all'esaurirsi del conflitto.
