S2 Izzy Hands fans: I.... I think I'm starting to like Izzy? He's.... hot? And complex? I THINK HE'S MY POOR LITTLE MEOW MEOW NOW? Does anyone else like him or is it just me?

MY CRITICISM ISN’T JUST THAT IZZY DIED. This isn’t because he’s my favorite character. And nobody is wishing they were being handled with kid gloves. Every time I see that take, I want to scream. I can think of LOTS of ways that his death could’ve been handled better. I actually LOVE when my shows and books hurt me. I SEEK OUT media that kills characters I love. Honestly, this show was my break from that. But it’s only good when it makes sense. I’m sorry, but that was weird. Like, really weird. Nobody eulogized him? They didn’t bury him with his leg? He couldn’t think of any reason to go on living because he was just a part of Blackbeard? When Ed called for help, the crew had already written him off as dead despite the fact that this show exists in the universe it exists in and characters have literally been skewered in the same spot and been totally fine? Sacrifice Auntie and Zheng’s weird “soft”thing/reconciliation that felt unearned for the TWO MINUTES that could’ve been better spent paying respect to a major character. I would love more of Auntie and Zheng, but like… let’s be real. The opening with Ed and the fisherman? Cut that down just a smidge. I mean, it wouldn’t have been any more choppy than the rest of the episode turned out. It’s not like we’re just bitching to bitch. I can actively SEE some small ways that it could have been helped. Still wouldn’t have been enough given the constraints but it would’ve been a start.

I don’t know what’s going on on Twitter. I don’t doubt that there are bad actors that are harassing DJ and crew. But those of us screaming in our small corners of the internet are ALLOWED TO HAVE CRITICISMS. It’s almost like some of y’all need to be handled with kid gloves. So scared of hearing anything negative about your precious show. Well, it’s MY precious show, too. It’s okay to admit when things don’t live up to your expectations. It’s okay to move the goalpost, even, and try to be positive when that happens. But it almost feels deceptive to try to convince other people that their criticisms are without merit (especially when some of them are just objective. That shit was RUSHED. The pacing was BAD.)

I am not okay. I am not okay. I am sobbing and enraged and David Jenkins better count his fucking days because what the fuck was that for? What was the reason? Izzy had all these realizations, he was healing, he was their new unicorn and now he's just dead and for what? This character who grew so much, who we fell in love with so viciously, who the crew started to fall in love with so viciously is now just gone? And not even buried at sea? You're going to take a man like Izzy Hands, a man who gave everything to piracy, and everything to the sea, a life long pirate and you're not even going to bury him at sea? And you're going to make the crew fine with his death? Everyone just gets to sail off in the new revenge and have their happily ever after and be fine? This man who protected them when Edward completely morphed into the Kraken, the people who he finally started to know and understand, the people who felt for Izzy and they're just going to sail off like nothing happened? You're going to make Ed fine with his death? These two who have been so intwined with one another, who have lived by one another for so many years, who wouldn't have gotten where they were without each other, who were starting to heal together and Edward is just going to fine with him dying? He's not going to be enraged, vengeful, and not go absolutely fucking insane over the death of the person who was the closest to him, the person who gave everything for him? Fuck all of the way off.

NOTHING

I want a show where no one dies during the course of the storyline - not the parents, not the "love interest" not the redemption arc people NOT EVEN the antagonists

If your ending is "and thus he was liberated by death" I'd rather not hear the story at all. Fuck you.

There was no point to his death, no conclusion from his death, it was sloppily written and even more poorly executed. The only one who put any acting into the scene was Con o Neil and everything else was just bland.

Literally everyone was standing there with somewhat sad faces.

I think the thing that hurt the most for me was that Jim didn't do anything. Didn't run closer to hold onto him. Didn't even go get bandages with the Captain. They had such a developing friendship and yet nothing.

It's just disappointing to the extreme

I don't want a 3rd szn without Izzy. I just don't. Call me dramatic or whatever, but I'm so genuinely heartbroken by his death. I feel so betrayed. Izzy was the heart of the show, and now he's gone.

The aftermath of his death felt rushed, he wasn't buried at sea (like what the fuck, a lifelong pirate like Izzy would've wanted to be buried at sea) and the crew was just happy to get back on the revenge and set sail without their unicorn? Everyone just gets a happily ever without Izzy? Izzy died a painful death shot by a pompous asshole and for what? Some metaphor about the end of the golden age of piracy? Piss off. Closure for Ed? That could've been achieved a number of other ways. Izzy couldn't get any assurances that HE was loved? Even on his fucking deathbed? The man who protected the crew with life and limb? It doesn't feel right, and it never will. Izzy deserved so much better, and so did Con.

And worst of all, perhaps, is that Djenkins was planning on killing him all along. The whole time, while we were falling in love with the little angry man, rooting for him and rejoicing when he wore makeup in front of the crew and was vulnerable with them...he was a dead man walking.

It feels doubly awful because we, as an audience, were given something we've never had before, an unapologetically queer show. One that didn't soften or censor itself for straight viewers. It was created with such love, at least it felt like, for us. So to be given that gift, and to feel recognized and seen and appreciated, only to have it snatched away...

I can only speak for myself, of course, but it's genuinely heartbreaking. I'm so utterly disappointed. I wish so badly that Con got more time with Izzy. I think Izzy means a lot to him, and he means a lot to us, too.
