So many men had tried to make her a queen. Now she understood that she was meant for something more. The Darkling had told her he was destined to rule. He had claimed his throne, and a part of her too. He was welcome to it. For the living and the dead, she would make herself a reckoning. She would rise.

FROM BLOOD UNTO BLOOD// A WIP INTRODUCTION
Genre: NA dark fantasy
Age range: 18+
Current status: First draft
POV: 1st person (although I’ve played around with 3rd)
Themes/tropes: Enemies to lovers/enemies while lovers, accidental marriage, prophesized bond, soulmates, light/dark and life/death dichotomy, body horror, sentient forest, illegal magic, necromancy, smut that will hopefully make SJM weep.
SYNOPSIS:
The forest is a collector of dead things. Teeming with magic, it devours villages whole, feasting on their inhabitants with its wild overgrowth. When Mira’s village is overtaken by the forest, she should be dead along with everyone else. Unable to return to her village without being accused of magic and imprisoned, she begrudgingly accepts shelter from Odella, the feared empress of the woods who is bent on taking over the throne and letting magic reign free in the kingdom of Cielhelm once more. Odella is bloodthirsty and not afraid to slit throats to get what she wants, and Mira is the key to her getting it. Despite Mira’s unwillingness, there is a thread that binds the two together and an attraction that simmers against their wills. As war approaches, Mira must decide where her loyalties lie and which kind of imprisonment she would prefer– free to live as she wishes with Odella while committing atrocities by her side, or locked in the dungeons of a castle with her conscience and heart still intact.

“You must be unlike most other girls as well, if you don’t wish to be queen. Every one I know would likely kill for such a chance, and the girls I know are far from noble-born.”
Maia laughs, tipping her head back. “I’ve been Aedan’s friend since we were young. That’s all I’ve ever wanted to be, and all I want to continue to be. As does he.” She gives me a sidelong look, a sly glint forming in her misty-blue eyes. “Why, do you want to be queen?”

i. wip introduction post
you can check out THIS post right here for a more in depth introduction of Keeper of Ashes!
ii. keeper of ashes
Keeper of Ashes follows the stories of Layna and Aylia, two young women who are sisters by choice rather than sisters by blood. Layna has sworn to do whatever she can to protect sweet, soft Aylia from the harshness of war, seeing as the fae have spent the last decade invading and raging against the mortals. When the two are captured and pulled apart, Layna is forced to toil in the adamantine mines of the Blarestone Mountains, while Aylia is whisked off to the royal palace to be a servant to the Crown.
Layna will pay the price for freedom, no matter the cost--even if that cost is joining forces with a mysterious fae male who seems to be her only ticket to the capital. Hatred of the fae consumes her but must be set aside if Layna wishes to survive the deadly trek from the Blarestone Mountains to Carpe. However, when she is swept into an even deadlier lie that makes her create ties with an fiery rebellion fanning through the fae nations, Layna hopes she hasn’t been given more than she bargained for.
Aylia has come to realize that nothing in life is ever permanent. Home is wherever you can make it, family is whoever you can trust. Without Layna, she is truly alone and homesick for the first time in her life. Though she has settled into her work within the kitchens of the royal palace, Aylia still dreams of her people and their freedom. A chance encounter with the elusive Crowned Prince, Alaric Vauclain, offers to make those dreams a reality. He sends Aylia’s new life into a whirlwind of warmth and color. Near him, she feels at home. Together, Aylia and Alaric will do whatever they can to uncover the darkness that threatens their world, and keep utter chaos from reigning.
