I haven't watched Do No Harm in a little while but I feel like fern confronting the grass wizard is sm more similar to how Finn interacts with his parents than people realise

Obviously I'm moreso talking about Martin, especially in terms of how dismissive the grass wizards is, but I still think Minerva has a place in this comparison because she obviously has massive significance to fern seeing as he never mentions Martin

Finn and fern both beg continuously to know about their past and why they're where they are, with most things ferns more angry and aggressive but Finn still has his moments with Martin. Fern asking about why he (the grass demon) was even made, being drawn to the grass maze.. it just feels so similar to Escape From The Citadel ??

ALSO more people talk about fern and aunt lolly NOW. PLEASE. I need so much more on their dynamic because it's just so devastating to not even know if fern was told about Minerva, and how that changes his attachment to her

and I need to know if Minerva ever actually knew about him. In Islands when Finn's showing her what he's gone through in Ooo, she obviously sees fern in those memories but like?? Did she ever ask about him?? I need to know if his mother still loved him please ☹️

Okay so I've been thinking alot about how different disorders or forms of abuse are often portrayed in media and how some people argue whether these things should be present in medias at all, so I figured I should put out my own take on it BC I remembered I have free will. So:

For me, alot of the time what an author writes can reflect on their real world thinking; not in the sense of 'if character bad, author bad', i mean in the sense of 'if an author cannot sufficently prove the tragedy within a story of a form of abuse and romaticises it, then i feel rightfully concerned for the authors way of thinking and any potentional future partners they may have'

And in my opinion, if you don't think you can portray a character with a disorder or experience in an accurate/respectful manner then you probably shouldn't label them with that sort of thing at all.

Honestly anyone here is free to share their takes but if you're gonna be disrespectful ab it I'm not going to engage with you; thanks!

I'm gonna explain each of their dynamics as duos now and then anyone interested can imagine what they'd be like together ^^

Cassiya (Cassie x Maya)

This is actually really funny as a ship to me cause wdym that the guy that Cassie framed for murder is her gfs ex-friend. Although unrelated to all that; I've always imagined Maya as some popular girl stereotype, and though idk if Cassie would still be the white pumpkin; to be fair I can see her rocking up to Beacontown to scope stuff out and possibly get the jump on Jesse but then Maya and the other girls are just gonna be chilling around. In Maya's case it's like. "Oh. Yeah. They exist. It's whatever." I don't think Maya would care too much to be completely honest. Their dynamic is really appealing though

Cassinta (Cassie Rose x Binta)

Cassie and Binta is actually a very interesting dynamic; I don't think Binta is weak by any means, but she certainly feels like someone who is more of a pacifist than everyone else, compared to someone who is probably the most violent? It's honestly interesting to think of their dynamic

Castella/Killerqueen (Cassie x Stella)

I love them oh my lord their dynamic is so fascinating to me. I can't remember who it was now but someone proposed that Cassie, even if having been reformed still just hates Jesse so it turns into into "oh yeah that's my friend :) we used to not like each other but we're good now :3" while Cassie is just seething. I feel like their dynamic would be similar to Cassiya, although not the same. I don't know how to explain, but I feel like Stella might be the best when it comes to giving Cassie a redemption arc.

Bintya (Binta x Maya)

To be honest I'm not entirely sure how to explain my appeal to this one. I think they would just be kinda cute.

Mayella (Maya x Stella)

They both would probably do makeup and would be hypewomen together, it'd honestly be great. Both of them probably have a fair ego but I think it'd be really endearing for them to interact. And hey!! Past rivals to our main characters?

Bintella (Binta x Stella)

Although Stella is reformed, I can imagine Binta being someone helping who helps rebuild champion city and even possibly coaching Stella on what it means to be a good leader, especially since they both have similar backgrounds and are even both helped/were helped by Jesse in season 2

Uh but honestly I'm not insanely fixated on bubbline, but I think both of them have amazing arcs both in and out of their relationship

Pb definitely has some sort of God complex.. cuz she built her whole life from the ground up, created life and became desensitized to both that and death. I think she focuses so much on innovation pre-series and early seasons to the point she ignores any empathy she has for the cause.

Fionna and cake in particular does wonders for her character, "oh she didn't care about Finn" yet she looks close to vomiting when hw saves him- and the fact she steps down at Marcy's request/order??? I cannot imagine her doing that in the early seasons, especially based on her reaction to the king of Ooo taking over the kingdom

Also block me if you say she led Finn on, I'm re-watching S1 and so far all she's done is kiss him on the cheek (princess stereotype) and remix a joke jake made earlier in that episode (ice king kissing his ass)

also like. I think people forget her talk with fp where she then proceeds to cut all her security cams in the kingdom and then talks to Finn about how she's trying to be more laid back. Yes she's by definition a dictator, but she means well and genuinely wants the best for her people.

Marcy honestly I probably won't have as many talking points on but well like, all her shit with Simon is an obvious thing. Honestly in side quests I hope we get some of ice king following her whenever she moves, since she says that's what he does in I Remember You. I also love obsidian because of how it just. Ekgsih

Monster is an obvious one, you can tell from Evicted and Henchman in particular that she's demonized herself. Also the line in house hunting "I'm not mean, I'm 1000 years old and I just lost track of my moral code." AH. But also like, the shit with Elise ??? Omfg.

God and her shit in stakes?? The vampire king genuinely oh my god I hate him. "Yeah ur a vampire hunter and idk if I'll win against you SO. Kill me. But also I'm gonna turn you into a vampire so if you wanna truly eliminate us, you have to kys." OH OKAY.

Also I think ash was such an important addition for the 2010s sexism, him getting beat up for telling Marcy to make a sandwhich was so awesome and I'm really glad it made misogyny look as lame as it is.

Also circling back to obsidian and stakes, I love Marcy's idea of feeling like her vampirism keeps her from maturing, I think it's such an interesting pov.

Oke focusing on their relationship now, I think this one line from islands really sums up what I wanna say

I love how Marcy is always an emphatic voice of reason for pb, I think they really only thrive because of Marcy's maturity after stakes. Obviously they love each other no matter what, but pb was too worried about one-uping herself and her kingdom whereas Marcy couldn't stop seeing herself as a monster and always played into the rebellious punk instead of letting herself feel anything besides anger.

Also the obvious "queer couple in a MASSIVE show.. in the 2010s." Adventure time as a whole is incredibly woke (argue with the wall 🏳️‍🌈🫷✝️Mason✝️🫸🏳️‍⚧️) but bubbline being so unapologetically lesbian just. Hhhhhhhhh ☹️.
