        “Oh my gosh! An actual baby dragon? I have recently dealt with a dragon but I have never seen a baby dragon. You’re so adorable too! Are you from Equestria like me?”

“A tiny...” Celestia? “Filly?” There was no need to alert the other to him knowing just who she was. There wasn’t any need to confuse her, but he had grown up knowing her for all his life and being exposed to Princess Celestia’s Personal Victories and History. A generous gift Twilight gave him, ( Eventually including editions 5 and 7, now with full color pictures)  and read to him consistently. “H-Hi...” He waved at the tiny, excitable thing. “Yeah, I’m Spike, yooou probably haven’t heard of me, but I’m pretty much a big deal. What’d you wanna know?”

        Staring down at her phone, she hesitated. She’d been worried about a few ponies now but sitting among the top was her dearest student. Well, her sister was right alongside her too, but with the other mare living with her she could keep a closer eye on her herself. Stylus firmly in her mouth she went about texting someone she knew could handle this particular quest of hers.

To: Spike the Dragon From: Princess Celestia

        [text] Hello, Spike, I hope I am not encroaching on your evening too heavily.

        [text] I fear I have an important task for you, and you alone.

        [text] If you could meet me at my apartment as soon as you can that would be lovely.

She paused before adding a crucial bit of information. So a delayed message was sent after her others.

        [text] Please do not tell Princess Twilight about our meeting.

His phone vibrated the softest little jingle, the one he had spent hours assigning to Princess Celestia yet never thought he’d hear. Did she need Twilight? Was she unavailable?! Where was she?! Spike urgently grabbed his phone and opened up his messages. What...?

Why would the princess ask for him solely?

In his haste, he quickly scribbled down a note for Twilight that read simply and solely his location at Princess Celesetia’s and promptly ran out and down the hallway towards the alicorn’s apartment.

“Princess, I’m here!” He huffed and fell in a heap at her hooves.

        The alicorn couldn’t help herself and kept fussing over him even through his little swats. She frowned, though, at his last words. “Please. Don’t ever say that again. You know bad things happen whenever anypony says those words.” She still worried over him, he was a baby dragon in a scary city, full of scary people. She’d witnessed first hoof how this city could mess with the people in it the last time she was here, she wasn’t prepared for Spike to go through it too.

        “Fine, Spike. Let’s go. We’re going to be late.” She nudged him gently with her nose before walking forward a few paces and waiting for him to climb up on her back.

“Awww, c'mon, Twilight, how often can those words actually lead to something happening.” He shrugged. “You're jumping to conclusions.” Again. Per usual. When will she ever learn? He patted her shoulder.

No sooner did she urge him towards the ball that his eagerness got the better of him. He could condemn girly dances and balls all he wanted, but there was nothing funner than all the things that could go wrong at these things. Plus, Twilight's dancing was second to none. He hopped on her back and braced himself. “Yeah! Let's go, let's go, let's gooooo.”

      “Ooooh Spikey-Wikey !”   If the gigantic smile on the unicorn’s face wasn’t   enough, than the nickname certainly served to   illustrate just how glad Rarity was to see the little   dragon. “I should have known you’d be here too just   as soon as I met Twilight! Oh how are you, Spike?   Certainly you must be faring better than Opalescent?”

“Rarity!” Spike had missed her more than he realized somehow, being that he speant every other moment sighing and wishing to see her again. But not like this!  Not here! “Oh, no! Rarity, your mane!” Was he being over protective? Possibly. But if she really had been put through a lot, he could feel his heart break at the thought that she might have been in trouble and he hadn’t been there to save her. 

“C’mon, we’ll get you cleaned up.” Absently, Spike noted the mentioned cat. He shuddered at the sight of her. “Hi, Opal...”

        “Alright, alright, Spike.” Twlight rolled her eyes, giving a playful smile to the little dragon. She wasn’t actually annoyed this time. Horn began to glow with a pinkish hue before it extended to the little dragon. At the end of the spell, a little moustache grew on his face.

        “There you go!” The pony nuzzled the dragon before she levitated his bow tie and straightened it, fussing over him a little “Now, you’ll make sure to be safe at this ball, right? With the things that happen in this city and what we know always happens at the Grand Galloping Gala, who knows what could happen?” She sighed, obviously a bit worried about the event. “Are you ready to go then?”

Spike was anxious to go. They were gonna run laaaate!! “Twiliiiight.” Spike bobbed in place, restless but not able to move yet, not unless he wanted a fuzzy rear. As Twilight’s magic spread on his lip, Spike sighed, finally.

Looking good, Spike. He caught sight of his reflection. Looking real good. The mustache really completed his look, if he did say so himself. But- “Twiliiight!” He batted at her as she fussed over him. “I know, I knooow, I’ll be careful.” But he had hardly ventured the city and he didn’t really know of it’s dangers. “I mean, c’mon, what could happen?”

“A dragon!?” Hadn’t she heard that term before? It was on the very tip of her tongue, though it’s full meaning escaped her. “My gem isn’t decadent! A Peridot like myself is to be given the respect it deserves, rather than-”

“WHAT?” She scrambled to lift the whelp off herself. holding him out at arms length like some kind of terrible animal. The nerve! “NO!!! Why the crud would you even- no! Ew!”

Spike had been so close, so painfully close. He reached out for it, obviously straining as it was now way out of reach. “Ok, then. How about a trade?” He didn’t really have much, but then she might have some interest in the little bit of nothing he did have. “I have to go get it, though. I... I have a heart cut onyx.... I might have eaten that one, actually.” He paused. “It was so goooood!”

It was beginning to dawn on him that he wouldn’t be getting that peridot. That sweet, perfect little triangle of delicious sweetness. “Wait, did you say you were a peridot?” Spike looked her over. That’s why she smelled so good? And he just admitted to eating an onyx! And that he wanted to eat her! “I’m so sorry!” He frowned, now worried he’d been eating sentient beings for years. “I’m so so sorry, they’re just in the ground, ready to be dug up and-” He gulped. “And...And eaten...” He was horrified with himself. But they are so good...

        The zebra approached a familiar, tiny figure, extending and bending a foreleg. She couldn’t have expected this place to happen nor could she expect that there would be anyone else from Equestria either. Yet, here was the dragon.

        “Is that little Spike I see? What could you be doing here with me?” She paused and glanced around the area. “Tell me little dragon are you alone, too? Shouldn’t Princess Twilight be right behind you?”

“You’d think, but she’s having me run some errands around the city. I don’t even know where to find half the things she wants!” He angrily rolled the shopping list they had triple checked before he was even allowed out the door, and then checked again just one, last time. Wait! “Zecora?” Spike grinned and with a leap, he clung to her neck, hugging her as if she would be his salvation.

“Wait, you’re here too?!” Obviously, but why? “But why?”

— [ ✪ ] — There’s a fair number of shady types in this city. Even around the main streets there’s dealers of illegal or counterfeit goods. And when there’s shady goods, there’s shady buyers. Still, he doesn’t expect this strange bodied, young boy ( ??? ) in a trenchcoat to waltz right up to him asking for gems.

❝Excuse me– what? What the hell is a little guy like you going to do with gems?❞ He narrows his eyes, shifting his weight to peer at the small being closely. ❝You ain’t thinking ‘bout doing anything shady, are you? Because, trust me, if you intend to look suspicious– it’s working.❞

“What? No! It’s not like that!” Spike discarded his hilarious disguise, he wasn’t shady! He didn’t need to look the part at all! What would Twilight say? Spike bit on his thumb claw. She’d be so disappointed in him! She’d kick him out!

“Nooo, I’m not doing anything shady! I’m just hungry and you looked like you could part with a ruby or two?”

“Spike?” 

The princess gasped when she saw the small purple dragon. It was shocking enough that Spike was in the city, but seeing him without Twilight was even more concerning. Surely he knew she was within the city? After all, it was dangerous for a baby dragon to wander alone, especially here of all places!

“Where is Twil-“

The sudden feeling of scaled hands grabbing onto her flank cut Luna off. Blinking a few times the mare glanced towards the dragon, who was now contently sitting on her back and eagerly staring back.

“Spike, what are you doing?”

“Uh, getting ready to wake up from this nightmare?” Wasn’t it obvious? Why else would he be hitching a ride on a princess? What? Twilight? He shrugged his little shoulders. “I think she’s still sleeping, wouldn’t you know?” Sheeze, what was with Princess Luna?

“Ok I’m ready.” He held onto her shoulders as he doubted she would be as forgiving as the mentioned Twilight if he wrapped his arms around her neck. “Let’s go!”

     “Hello there. What’s your name?”

     Claire’s eyes sparkled as her eyes laid on the small dragon. Dragons back home were much, much larger. They looked far too intimidating– not to mention dangerous. Yet this one was cute. And innocent. Claire couldn’t help herself; she already liked the young one.

Spike held himself up with pride and a smile.

“I’m Spike!”He got closer and investigated her. “You really don’t need to worry, though. I know that as a dragon, I can be scary, but I’m really not that bad.”Oblivious to common personal spaces, Spike walked around her, finding everything about her fascinating. “So, what’s your name?”

Shin-Ah was roaming around the sector, trying to spot any trace of Kija. Even though he could faintly sense the hakuryuu, the dragon remained out of sight, which both confused and irritated him to a tiny degree. Kija was one to always preach about their duties as dragon warriors and how that equated to protecting Yona, but now that she was here, he as nowhere to be found. He at least found Jae-Ha, despite the other not knowing them and not willing to rejoin their group.

He was pulled from his thoughts as something small bumped into his leg. Looking down, Shin-Ah noticed a small dragon. It was rather cute, and immediately Shin-Ah was kneeling down before it, making sure it was okay.

“Are you…alright?” he asked, tone soft as he observed the dragon. “Did I…hurt you?”

He didn’t seem bothered by the fact that the dragon could speak to him.

“Huh..? Uh, no..I-I’m fine.” What was he? He was tall and intimidating and almost looked human. Spike had to look way up just to properly observe him. A small spark of bravado welled up in with and he valiantly puffed up his chest. “Hurt me? How could you opossibly hurt me? I am Spike, the great and powerful!”

But his boost was short lived. He really wasn’t sure about this declaration, and more so, he kept starving off panic as this has been the longest he’s been without his friends. Unintentionally, anyway.

Peridot flinched back at the show, but was quick to realize how… impressive it truly was. Or, how unimpressive it all was. That was the whelp’s idea of fire? She’d seen worse during her few attempt at cooking.

“You’re not getting the stone, reptile.” She grumbled, still shielding the precious little thing. “Go find a jewelry store if you want a shiny bauble- I’m not up for trade.”

“But it’s decadent enough to make me use the word decadent!” Darn Twilight and her dictionary pushing. “And I’m a dragon.” He purposefully said the word slowly, making sure to enunciate it in case the gem hoarder was a little bit slow. No shame in that.

“Can I lick it a little at least?” He offered as compromise. “The cut and shine are beautifully executed.” Sometimes nature could be nice, because that’s what cut and shined precious stones, right? Nature? “Just a tiny lick?” Not one to waste time, Spike climbed up her incredibly tall body and sat his tiny body on her shoulder.

When Princess Celestia asks what you want for Hearth’s Warming, it’s not a decision to take lightly. Claw to chin, Spike weighed his options. Piles of gems? Comics? Oh! A new action figure? One of the biiiig ones!

“You know, IIIIII think you know what good ol’ Spike wants.” You really can’t specify with her, she has a way to twist things around, even if it all ends up oddly fine at the end.
