hot take but i feel like the statement that ‘Male and female are sexes! not genders! use man and woman instead!’ is just an excuse to call trans women male and vice versa
male and female are also genders right?
This is transphobia, exorsexism (you didn't mention it, but its used on enben too), and varsexism.
It is not a hot take, it's a logical one.
Male & female are used synonymously with man/boy and woman/girl all of the time.
Not to mention, people using "male" and "female" to discuss trans & non-binary people often fail to take into account intersex people, HRT, and surgery. (For example, people will say "menstruation is a female trait" which ignores that not everyone with a uterus can menstruate, uteruses can be removed, uterus transplants are coming into practice, and also that intersex people can have uteruses.)
Additionally, it's silly in the grand scheme of things, because what constitutes a "male" and a "female" in other species is so different from humans that it becomes...ridiculous, to use the same two words to describe such a wide range of sexes.
A "female" bird is a completely different sex from a "female" hyena which is a completely different sex from a "female" human. The only similarity between the bird, hyena, and human is that (without the influence of HRT or tumors), they will estrogenize. But then if you get into discussions of bugs (ie; bees) and use the term "female", it makes even less sense, because perisex bees do not have two subtypes to fall into, they have more than that. And lets not even bring "female" and "male" plants into the discussion.
If you want to describe one of the branches of perisex humans, say SPETE (someone perisex expected to estrogenize) and SPETA (someone perisex expected to androgenize) [link.]
Saying this clarifies that they are perisex (natally developed the most commonly seen sex traits for their species), while also clarifying that the sexual expectations (estrogenization & androgenization) are merely that - biological expectations, which can be altered through HRT or surgery.
If you want to describe a specific type of perisex animal, you can say the following:
Estrogenized perisex [species] and androgenized perisex [species] (if estrogen & androgens are a part of that species.)
Egg-producing perisex [species] and sperm-producing perisex [species]/fertilizing perisex species (if eggs & sperm/fertilization are a part of that species.)
Cosexual (if the perisex standard for the species is being capable of both fertilizing others and being fertilized.)
Dualsex (if the perisex standard for the species is having mixed sex traits, such as mixed genitalia and/or mixed secondary sex traits, but not necessarily cosexual abilities.)
