@Broadway/Theatre Fans hereās a resource roundup of Black Lives Matter and Anti-Racism Posts in the context of the Theatre Community
Note: I am not Black, Iām Asian. This post is non-comprehensive. Check out the tags/reblogs/comments for ad ons. This post is also focused on the theatre community, but please research and support other Black Lives Matter organizations, news, and petitions.Ā
Did you know that the 2015/2016 season had the highest rate of Black actors in New York theatres, making up a low 23% of the actors seen on stage?Ā When it comes to playwrights that number becomes 7.8%, directors 6.1% (in 2016-2017 season)Ā Ā Now that number is going to be even lower because so many Black actors/creatives are afraid that they wonāt get casted / supported after speaking out for Black Lives Matter and against racism in the theatre industry. Here are some Black artists that Iāve been following that have been posting about Black Lives Matter and racism on bway. Nowās the time to get to know them and support them!

with hadestown now officially being on bway, Iāve gotta say something important. as white fans, we need to be incredibly careful in the ways in which we involve ourselves in fan spacesāI was here to see what happened with h*milton, and I can see the beginnings of that same thing occurring. this is a show heavily influenced by the art of poc and showcasing the talent of poc; it is beyond important that we make sure we are not pushing poc out of fan spaces. this means, yes, making sure youāre not whitewashing in your art and gifs (which @lightsoverastoria has made a fantastic post on) but also? i know people love Reeve Carney and Damon Daunno, but fixating on the one (1) white dude in the cast to the exclusion of the rest of the castāwho are largely pocāis, to be quite frank, fucking racist. Give some love to the rest of the cast; they deserve it, and poc deserve to have a show that they can enjoy without white fans stepping on their toes.
