THANK YOU
I love this one personally.
This extra large Tasmanian echidna from Australia is stealing the hearts from everyone it meets
The chonky creature got a happy ending after being cared for at Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary.
Read more in my CNET article here.
Echidnas are weird. They used to be venomous, but aren’t any more? They have those serious back claws, which are used for…grooming. They don’t have a proper marsupial pouch, they have a skin flap that folds over to protect their young. They don’t have nipples to suckle their young, instead they have a skin patch that oozes milk for the baby to lap up. The Short Beaked Echidnas at the Los Angeles Zoo are elderly, the male is 52 years old, and they think one of the 30+ year old females is currently with child. Oh, also the Short Beaked Echidna has spikes.
Not to sound like a common whore but can someone hold my hand and rub it with their thumb comfortingly
When something tragic happens, tumblr is the only social platform you can escape to. The whole world could be in shambles and y’all are shitposting and reblogging pictures of tiramisu as usual.
third day of italian quarantine: everything is closed, everyone is at home and so... WILD BOARS ARE IN MY TOWN WITH THEIR BABIES!!!! i’m laughing so hard
Clear water in Venice’s canals.
Dolphins near Sardinian harbours.
Ducks in Rome’s fountains.
Nature can still heal if we give it a fucking chance to.
You are the dancing queen, young and sweet, now in quarantine
You can dance, you can jive, but you can’t go outside

Emotional Regulation DBT Skill: Opposite Action
The goal here is to change your state of mind or emotions by changing your actions.
Every emotion has an action. Typically the action for anxiety is to either shut down, avoid, or run away. Sadness or depression’s action is hiding away, moping about, sleeping, some people self harm, etc.
The idea is to act the opposite of how you normally would; not to hide your emotions or deny that you’re having them.
First, think of what negative emotion you are currently having, that makes you do things that are unproductive, or even do things that make you feel worse. The example I’ll use is Depression.
Next, pin point what action you are doing because of this emotion. Personally, I sleep or do something self destructive or self sabotaging when I’m depressed.
Now you do the opposite of that action. This gives me a few options. The opposite of sleeping is doing an activity. The opposite of self destructing is self care. And the opposite of self sabotage is self help. So I can do an activity that is self care - taking a bath or shower, doing a face mask, washing my hair, etc. Or i can do an activity that is helping myself - journaling, doing homework, or anything productive that will help me feel better later.
The action that goes along with the emotion is going to be different for everybody, but the goal is to do the opposite of what the negative emotion wants you to do, so that in the end you’ll start to feel less of that emotion.
Note that you can feel sad, depressed, anxious, scared, etc. while you’re doing the productive opposite action! Allow yourself to feel the negative emotion while you’re doing the productive action! It’s okay to feel those things, but hopefully you’ll notice the longer you do them, the better you’ll feel.
It’s science, y’all. Your behaviors communicate to your brain what emotion to feel. It’s the same concept as laughing to feel better. When you do what you’d typically do while you’re feeling good, it’s like telling your brain to feel better, and you’ll find yourself feeling less of the negative emotion.
I saw this on reddit this morning. I thought I’d share it here, not necessarily for parents, but for people who are going through the process of reparenting themselves or for people who have wounded inner children. I think these are some really beautiful words to tell your inner child.
You don’t have to be happy.
You don’t always have to be silly or funny.
You don’t have to be anything.
But the important thing is, whenever you’re feeling moods like this, is to not just stay there all the time.
You want to accept it. You want to honor it. You want to acknowledge it.
And then let it go. And it will get better.
And if it doesn’t, you don’t make it.
Just let it be.
You’re still loved and you’re still safe.
does anyone else remember being in, like, middle school and every adult over the age of 30 being like “drawing or writing on your hands is literally the most EVIL thing you can do and can KILL you”
Allowing urself to be loved and REALLY known is a lot harder than it sounds, allowing yourself space for vulnerability with another person is so hard. Grand gestures are great and all (which also depends on your love language) but having someone look at your “ugly” and hold you through it, understanding you without words, or even learning your communication style and tweaking their own to better communicate with you.. that’s love that’s fucking love. Intimacy comes in so many forms, it’s in the tiniest details and gestures you just have to look a little harder sometimes
Today at work a girl at my register was heatedly explaining to her mother that wearing a dinosaur costume to her school’s decades day was, in fact, perfectly acceptable because her teachers did not specify any particular decades.
the kids are alright
Honestly I don’t understand how extroverted people even exist??? Going 23 diff places every day?? Then going out every night?? What are you all even doing?? Go to bed.
