I’m moving all blogs to @finertech
Hi all you lovely folks. I’m publishing more on the site, the newsletter, and here on Tumblr these days. But, I need to simplify things, so please follow @finertech if you don’t already.
Running separate Tumblrs is too time consuming, so I’m going to publish and link everything here on @finertech. I’ll separate some major topics by tags like #Finer iPad, #Finer Mac, #Finer iPhone, #Finer Watch, and #Finer TV if you want to follow or block anything specific.
As always, thanks for reading.
The iOS 9 keyboard shortcuts window is contextual, depending on task
There are plenty of "I wish Apple would add this" to iOS posts floating around, but I want to focus on something more specific: iOS and Apple's core apps that are missing important features from their Mac counterparts.
Some of these have been bugging me since day one.
If you get an iPhone 6S, be sure to 3D Touch (press a little harder) on apps like Safari, Messages, Instagram, and more in the coming weeks. They all have quick features like this; they're super handy.
With watchOS 2, if you just really need to sit for a bit, you can now mute stand alerts for the day.
iPad is the clearest expression of our vision for the future of computing.

In case you were wondering where Apple stands on its future.
Seriously: if you do anything with text and links on iOS, you're fired if you don't work Clips into your workflow.
Seems like a lot of people have been confused on this, myself included, so I decided to track down the truth.
If an iOS device is stuck restoring from iCloud, you can stop the process in Settings > iCloud > Backup.
Zoom into your Apple Watch face to see it build in slow-motion
I’m not sure whether Apple makes this mechanism available to third parties, but it sure would be cool to see more often.
Via Benjamin Mayo, this is apparently even cooler with the Solar face. Sounds like Apple did this for a bunch, or maybe all the faces.
Here’s the TL;DR of my tip and the explanation I posted to Reddit:
Form circles of apps, leaving an empty space in the middle of every six. This will give you the least amount of accidental taps. Group your apps by ideas and keep your most frequently used apps closest to the center.
Apple Watch tip: double-click the Digital Crown to jump back to the last app you were using.
A maxim of the computing of the 21st century is that the closer the machine is to us the more we value it. It does not get rewarded for being fast but for being a companion. It does not get valued for features but for beauty. It does not get hired for power but for control. It does not get worn because it’s smart but because it’s clever.

For some reason Tumblr lets you drag a blog’s profile picture around – similar to a Facebook chat head. I couldn’t quite figure out why this is supported, but hey – it’s fun, right?
This is exactly why. (via bryan)
