Lost Highway, David Lynch, 1997
snoqualmie falls, washington. used as the location for the great northern in twin peaks (1990)
In Twin Peaks, when Sarah remembers seeing Bob hiding in Laura's room when she goes to look for her, she gasps and cries out "Leland!" then covers her face and sobs: "I saw him!" It's framed as though she's calling out for her husband Leland to tell him she saw their daughter's killer. However, we know Sarah is "spooky" and has visions. I think she sees the full truth of who her husband is for a moment and then represses it. This happens with Laura in FWWM as well, when she sees Bob in her bedroom and then sees Leland leave the house. She convinces herself they can't be the same person despite what she saw. The victim/enabler connection being the denial that allows the abuse to continue.
They could never make me hate you, complex female character whose reaction to trauma was not pretty and digestible like how people think it should be.
I’ve seen you in a dream.
