Black sails is some of the best television I've ever seen and one of its greatest strengths is how it repeatedly asks you as the viewer if the truth is important or just what people believe and the ending of it is an example of this. But also the ending is so fucking funny to be me because it's literally like. It's okay honey Captain Flint is on a farm now. He's living on a farm with his boyfriend who everyone thought was dead. And the audience genuinely doesn't know if this is actually true or if it's figurative and Silver shot him. It's okay honey he's on a farm upstate. Insane ending.

My favorite thing about my current writing life is how often my random "useless" hyperfixations are coming in handy for this novel. My character needs to forage for wild edibles and medicinal plants? *Glances at my bookshelf of weathered foraging guides* Need to know the common pitfalls of learning to weave for this scene? *Laughs in past fiber arts tears* Minutiae of early medieval social hierarchies in western Europe? Please, seventh grade me didn't check out all those weird old textbooks from the library for nothing.

I guess what I'm saying is don't be afraid to plan a story stuffed chock full of all the random special interest shit you thought you'd never use because you think it might be dorky or too niche or whatever. All that stuff has been marinating inside your brain for years, waiting to become exactly what you need to set your writing apart from everyone else's. Now for the love of fuck let it cook.

house treats a dog trainer who says she has a 100% success rate for helping angry dogs and make them quiet and nice. house argues about how it cant be exactly 100% and wont stop being annoying about it. He brings in a literally feral rabid dog and she like makes it calm and lie down . House is disturbed by this because he wanted to be right that she sucks at stuff. (B-plot: house and the team sees if house can be trained with a dog clicker.) they break into her house and they find loads of dog pheromones and learn she has been wearing it like a perfume to calm down dogs. she thinks this is fine and theres no link but they think she is having a freaky reaction to it. but they take the pheromones away and she starts dying harder. house is really mad and has dinner with wilson, where he is complaining about how this lady is a charlatan but he doesnt understand what’s going on while eating out of a bowl of kibble like nothings wrong with it. wilson is watching him intently, as is the rests of the team who is watching from afar. house says his food is really yummy and insists wilson tries some and wilson is like “NO I CANT.” and house is like no you have to. you have to eat it. and wilson is like HOUSE STOP WE’VE BEEN CLICKERING YOU TO MAKE YOU EAT DOG FOOD. and house MAKES him eat a spoonful and hes like “… cocoa puffs..?” and house smirtks smartly as he demonstrates that he knew about their silly trick. “i know you guys are watching…. come out.”(the team is slowly emerging) “don’t worry . i dont bite anymore —“ he pauses and does a house stare and walks away to the sick lady’s room. cameron pours wilson a little milk for his cereal.“20%.” he walks into the room smartly. the patient is miffed and is about to say she doesn’t want to argue about percentages literally on her death bed. but house is like “no. 20% actually refers to the number of dog bites that get infected. You got bit by a dog and never got treated for it and ingredients in the dog pheromone solution were slowing it down. (?? im not a scientist) “ and he says something stupid like “sometimes a dog’s bark really is worse than its bite” and walks out. music starts playing. chase expresses he is mad about what cameron pouring milk for wilson means for them because cameron used to pour milk for her dead husband and he thinks she isnt over him. house walks out and reaches into his pocket and sneakily eats a hand ful of kibble

So like, I'm reading Return of the King and Faramir is kind of a total chad. But like, just in a straight talking, no bullshitting kind of way. He's like, Eowyn, not only are you hot, you're awesome, and we should go out, but even if we don't, we should definitely hang out. In this garden of the Houses of Healing. And she's like, Aragorn will never love me and I missed my chance to die in battle, so I guess we can hang out. So they hang out and they both get better, but then he leaves to do his job as Steward of Gondor and she starts getting sick again and Eomer calls Eowyn back to Rohan to prepare for Aragorn's coronation, but she declines. Faramir finds out she's getting sick again, so he goes to see her and he's like, there are only 2 reasons why you're still around and she's like, I do not have the fucking TIME for riddles. Speak plainly. And he's like, either you're staying here because you're avoiding Aragorn's coronation OR you're staying here because...I am here. And I hope it's the second reason. And she's like, uh... I don't have time for Aragorn's pity and I've lost all chance of valor because the war is over. And Faramir is like, uh... actually you killed a ring wraith, so like, you've already won valor? And she's like, oh and I guess you want to tell everyone you tamed a shield maiden of Rohan because you couldn't find a nice Dunedain girlie, and he's like, actually I would literally LOVE to tell people that. Also, Aragorn is the softest guy, so don't look down on his pity because he's got a really big heart and he simply can't help it. And she's like...fine. Deal. And he's like, YOU HEAR THAT, BOYS?! EOWYN'S MOVING OUT OF THE HOUSES OF HEALING CUZ I GOT HER ALL FIXED UP NOW.

1. I like, I HIGHLY identify with Faramir being this matter of fact with a romantic partner.

2. ARAGORN REALLY IS THE SOFTEST GUY. AND NO ONE JUST STRAIGHT UP POINTS THIS OUT BEFORE FARAMIR DOES. BUT IT'S SO TRUE.

Yeah, actually! From a few different angles, some of it is more specific but it's still extremely useful wrt writing.

WritingAdvice365 is your most general advice and covers a lot of broad topics - they frequently repost resources so it's a good place to branch out from

Fuck Yeah Character Development (FYCD) is just about that, various aspects of developing characters and they also are pretty broad in scope

Prompts and Pointers is pretty self explanatory since its main function is to give you ideas and reminders about writing, so a lot like the famous Writing Prompts blog

How to Fight Write is one that I've used for a very long time and its a fantastic resource. It's grounded approaches to fighting, what happens during stuff, armor etc. Definitely check it out if action is more your angle

Writing with Color is a FANTASTIC resource for writing a variety of peoples in respectful tones

Creating Black Characters is what it says on the tin and is a more recent blog focused explicitly and exclusively on blackness, issues people have with depicting black characters, and insight onto hair routines to better incorporate stuff into your writing. It's already got so much stuff up and the admin is really lovely so I really highly recommend it. I could gush about the admin for ages but please just check the page out to see for yourself before I start rambling more than I have lmfao

Can everyone who reads this PLEASE reblog it?!?!?  Libraries literally saved my life as a child!

Being abused at home, bullied at school and lost in the world, the library and all the books I could escape to the most amazing worlds, kept me alive!

I would walk to the library, and spend all day, from 10 am to 9 pm reading there!! I got special awards for how many books I read, I wrote little blurbs on why i loved the books (probably why I love to BETA and do ARCs)

As a 50 year old woman, the library offers me so much. Digital art pads to borrow, 3D printing, book clubs that are face to face (yeah, the introvert likes face to face because a moderator will stomp on anyone getting snarky)

New books in LARGE PRINT! I’m visually challenged and as much as I love my kindle, The feel of a real book in my hands will always be a beloved feeling!

Our library also has quarterly books sales of almost free books!! For 5$USD we get in a day early and can buy as many as we want. Anyone else has to wait and there is a limit for the first 2 days.

Also many, many libraries have inter library loan(it may be called something different). This means if they don’t have the item you want, they can get it for you. This may include photocopy/pdf of articles. This can also include along with books and DVDs, microfilm/fiche which is also a huge resource. Check around for libraries that are listed as depositories if you want to look at government documents.

Remember that many colleges and universities have open stacks for the public. You will likely have to pay a membership fee but you will get to stuff.

was sorting through my folders and found two questionnaires that i mainly use, one for writing the character's personality/worldview and one for writing relationships between ocs (like, ships mostly but not necessarily romantic), they were written by me (mostly compiled from different sources with my interpretation), credit not needed if you use

questions for one character

Personality and behavior What do you fear? Which feeling do you hate the most? What makes you feel angry the most often? Is there anything you regret? How do you experience anger, shame, and anxiety? What do you feel and how do you act when others request your help to do something? If you had to spend an entire weekend by yourself, would you feel lonely or refreshed? Which ways do you use to control other people or the environment around you in general? If a friend makes a claim that clashes with your current beliefs, what is your inward and outward reaction? What would be your reaction if someone would like to become closer to you/know you more? What would be your reaction if your friend would notice that something is bothering you and offer their help?

Desires and imaginings What do you need connections with people for? Is there anything you'd like to ask forgiveness for? If one of your wishes could be granted, what would you wish? What would you like to remove from the world right now? What would you like to appear in the world right now? if you were alone in a blank room without anyone to talk to and anything to do, what would you think, feel, or do in this situation?

Opinion on abstract concepts and feelings What is love? How do you define trust? What is happiness? How do you define envy and jealousy? What is worse than death? What's your opinion about the past, present, and future? How do you view change/uncertainty? What do you think about lying? Is there the good and the evil? Is it possible to call something objectively "good" or "bad"?

Opinion on self and others Are you the type who worries about feelings, thoughts and/or opinions of others? What exactly worries you? What are you ‘’the best’’ at? How do you want others to see you? How do you see yourself? Do you like yourself? Is there a person with whom you can talk about any of your worries? Is there anyone who you'd like to meet right now? What does the word "friend" means to you? Do you prefer to show affection first, or to receive affection first? What are you searching for in people? Create a name/title for their combination that wouldn't be a combination of their names
