Hello, it’s me.
I imagine you’d all forgotten that Fit For Battle even existed.
The reasons I wasn’t posting are myriad and frankly kind of boring, so here’s what’s new:
First, my most recent job was seasonal, and after Thanksgiving I was out of work, so I spent a lot of time sitting around in front of the TV eating a lot. I gained back a lot of the weight I had lost during the year, and this was really hard for me since it’s such a struggle for me to lose any fat in the first place.
I got a FitBit for Christmas, and this has been such an important tool for me. I’m very competitive, even if I’m only competing with myself, so having a goal to meet every day keeps me motivated to stay on the move. I shoot for 5 miles every day, and love that I can also keep track of my water, sleep, and calorie burn for the day.
I also realized that I needed to be smarter about my food intake, so I started using the My FitnessPal app to track my meals. At first, this was a huge pain in the butt. I definitely feel awkward hanging out with people and whipping out my phone to input all the food I just ate. But, it helps me stay accountable for what I put in my body, and that’s super important since I know I’m the kind of person that will binge on sweets. Like the FitBit, it puts me in a position to challenge myself to develop healthier habits.
The biggest thing keeping me on track? I have a solid workout buddy. My sister Caitlin is also trying to be a healthier, stronger, more active person, and last week we started hitting the gym together. Not only is it great to have a spotter and weightlifting partner, it also makes every workout way more fun.
Caitlin and I have added one further measure to our quest for healthy lives - a goal to shoot for. She and I, along with our dad, have registered for the Seattle Tough Mudder at the end of September. This gives us approximately 8 months to get into fighting shape. I am both excited and scared by this prospect.
That brings us to the present! We just started week two of our weightlifting schedule, and as we continue I’ll be sharing our workouts, healthy meal and snack ideas, and other fun, nerdy, fitness oriented stuff. Stay tuned!
