I think my favourite thing about comparing Angel and Spike is that one of them reads Sartre by candlelight, and one of them goes for joyrides while blasting punk rock, and then we get their backstories and one of them was a well-read poet and the other was a trashy party animal, and it's not the way round you think.

post break up buffy and angel is so so good because it's like he was my first boyfriend and my first love and my first time and my first everything and he hurt me in ways that i will never fully recover from and i had to kill him but i will always love him and i know we'll never ever work as a relationship and that will never stop me loving him and even just being in the same city is more than either of us can handle and i miss him more than i can ever tell him

and it's also like

she gave me a reason to keep living and i know i'm a monster and hurt her in such cruel ways that i could only do because i love her and she killed me and i still don't think that was enough and i know if i ever tried to be with her again it would only end badly but if she asked i would be there immediately and she's fucking my ex-situationship and i will never ever deserve her and she will never ever accept that and we both understand this and it still hurts so so much

but it's also like

they can't stand in the same room for more than 10 minutes without arguing because of how awkward it is and everyone else in the room is looking for reasons to leave except for their mutual ex-situationship that wants them both to beat him up

i'm re-reading game changer and i'm finally at the unhinged moment where scott gives kip 50,000$ for his birthday. it's just hilarious to me how he just went and gave that to the man he was dating for barely a month, he was so down bad. it's a crazy thing to do but it came from a good place and idk it makes me love scott even more

feel like when i was younger i didnt pick up on a lot of the issues with how the first slayer is presented but my gd they really do spend all of Restless portraying her as animalistic and inhuman and then buffy makes a racist comment about her hair. after they disturbed her from her final resting death to use her as a tool weapon killer for the greater good. when she spent most of her very short life enslaved by the council to stand as a barrier between upper propriety and death and hold the whole worlds fate on her shoulders as a little girl forged into that shape of tool weapon killer. sineya they did you so dirty in life and death.... also hard not to draw parallels btwn that reanimation of sineya's spirit and what is done to buffy in season 6

a talking point i often see when defending the consumption of dark content is that it’s a coping mechanism for those with trauma which is very valid and true but i also want to make this abundantly clear: you can like dark content for no reason. you can enjoy fucked up shit in fiction because it’s enjoyable and entertaining. trauma is not required as a ticket for entry. enjoy your dark content bc it’s fun and sexy and don’t let anyone take that away from you
