Little Birds
After trying to paint a phoenix that didn’t quite look like a bird I decided to try to paint some birds with a reference.

Fred Poisson - Paintings in Watercolor
Fred Poisson is a watercolor painter currently living and working on Block Island, Rhode Island. After years working in professional design Fred has returned to his roots, reconnecting with his innate ability to depict light and mood through the watercolor medium. These are not your typical watercolor paintings. Often large scale, full of pigment, painted both wet into wet and layered gradually, they have a richness seldom found in this medium.
He says that he prefers to think of himself first as a painter and second as a watercolor painter. He feels this is important to making compelling images and not getting caught up in watercolor technique. via

“Royal Flycatcher” - This is a special Fat Bird. It will be an edition of 100, but will not be for sale. There is only a limited amount of ways one can acquire it. I will put one randomly into every Fat Bird edition starting with the Rose-breasted Grosbeak, so any time you order a Fat Bird, you’ll have a chance at landing one, albeit small. I’ll also be leaving them in places around the world whenever I travel, posting a picture on instagram of its whereabouts. I’ll be giving one to any person who has a verifiable complete set of Fat Birds, which I can’t imagine is more than 3-4, and at absolute maximum, 14. I’m giving one to a cool dude named Jason who recently gave away a now extremely rare Robin Fat Bird to another FB collector, which he could have just as easily sold for $300-400. I’m giving one to Dan and one to Hector, who were big champions of my work early on. The rest I will be giving away to friends, family, charity, or do with as I see fit. I’ve been meaning to do something like this for a while now, and I’m super pumped to finally start. As soon as I get the entire edition (2-3 weeks from now), I’ll be hiding one somewhere in Austin, so keep an eye out for that! #fatbirds #yearofthefat
