@fizz-pop-thwip A GIRLFRIEND MOMENT LMAO THEY KNEW WHAT THEY WRE DOING
HELP THATS SO FUCKING INSANE LMAO thank you Fincher for your service to this soap shipping country 😇😇
so imagine the average "call the avengers" day, the city's attacked by a bunch of aliens or some other shit, the heroes save the day, blabla, except Steve gets pretty banged up in the process.
fast forward to him lying in a hospital bed, half-high on the strongest drugs they could find, and this nice nurse guy's telling him that he's gonna be fine, and also Sergeant Barnes is on his way there, shouldn't be a minute, and Steve's entire face just instantly morphs into this big dopey grin, like, stars switching on in his glossy blue eyes, and he starts drawling on and on like,
Yeaaaah that's my best guy, my best guy, I'm so lucky to have 'im, you know? He's so good to me and he's so sweet and he's so pretty, fuck he's so pretty, he's got the prettiest, ohh, the prettiest fuckin' eyes, the- his hair, just wanna run my fingers through his hair all the time, 'cause it's, it's so fuckin' soft and it smells so good it's, and and you should- have you ever seen him ridin' a bike? Those thighs? Thicker than tree trunks, man, I swear to God, he's just, fuck, he's the best, I love him so much, so goddamn much, I. He's my sweetheart. Yeah. Yeah he's my sweetheart. He's just like sugar, he is, he's so sweet to me, he's-- when you see him, you'll understand, he's jus- he's just, mmmm. Buck.
mere seconds later, James "Bucky" Barnes comes storming in in a whirlwind of righteous fury, announcing himself with a hissed, venom-dripping, "Steven motherfuckin' Rogers", and the poor dumbfounded nurse finds himself watching this man immediately cross the room, aggressively fuss over the injured Captain, foul mouth running a mile a minute while he fluffs up Steve's pillows and tucks the sheets over his chest,
You dumb fuck. You stupid bitch-ass-- what the fuck did you do this time, race all your pals into a collapsing building? You jumped off the 175th floor again? You try to save a fish from drowning, what, what stupid ass shit did you pull on me now? You walk out the door this morning, you say you'll bring back something nice for me-- this what you were goin' for? Huh? Gonna surprise me with a motherfuckin' heart attack? You stupid- I can't believe you. No, don't you gimme that face, don't you fucking dare- don't 'Sweetheart' me, you big lugging piece of shit, I ain't fallin' for that one again. No. I said no. Stop that. Stop that right now or I'm breaking your other leg, so help me God-
and throughout the whole tirade Steve's gazing up at him so adoringly, hearts in his eyes, his IV-hooked hand reaching for any bit of Bucky he can loosely grab at, so completely smitten it hurts to watch; and the one and only time he manages to tear his eyes off of Bucky, it's only to sluggishly look back at the nurse and slur, dreamily, Told ya. I'm the luckiest guy in the world.
cap 1: steve, the government says u can’t go after bucky
cap 2: steve, the corrupt government says u can’t go after bucky
cap 3: steve, the government of the entire world says u can’t go after bucky
steve: how about i do it… anyway… ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
bucky asks 'what did i do?' to the reply of 'enough.' he then says, looking down at the floor 'i knew this would happen.' and i think this is the moment that steve realized just why bucky had been running from him. why he pretended to not know who steve was beyond the 'museum facts'. it was because he did have his memory back, his identity, that he ran. because bucky didn't want to hurt anyone else, and how could he come back home (to steve) like this?
the thing about bucky becoming insubordinate, 'unstable', and 'erratic' after realizing he recognized steve is that it wasn't just that he knew him. pierce says 'if you don't do your part, i can't do mine. and hydra can't give the world the freedom it deserves' bucky replies 'but i knew him'. aka, asking 'how could hydra be the right side when you ordered me to hurt someone i love?'
I deadass think steve rogers ending was character assassination and conservative rhetoric (send the progressive man back to the decade epitomes with traditional values for a white picket fence life) but it was also just cruel to steve and bucky. “oh ur just mad ur ship didn’t go canon” no im mad the friendship that was the most important thing in both of their lives was tossed aside and the audience was gaslit into believing it didn’t matter despite three films proving otherwise. steve dropped the shield twice for bucky and would have died rather than live in a world where bucky didn’t remember him. bucky broke thru 70 years of brainwashing at the sound of steve’s voice. their catchphrase was essentially “til death do we part”. the fuck
Ugh, seeing them bring up Bucky and Tony and the whole Civil War thing again on X… It all reminds me how irritating Tony Stans can be.
They really can't grasp that Steve and Tony will always have different perspectives on Accords and that Steve can understand something like that from a perspective Tony never will. Tony could hang up his armor at any moment, never wear it again and retire as Iron Man. Steve, on the other hand, would never be able to put aside being a super-soldier, because his greatest weapon is his body, not his shield. Ross literally compared Thor and Banner to nuclear weapons, showing that he sees them as weapons, not people. Because their power came from their bodies, not their equipment. Just like Steve and Wanda. The government will always see them as weapons and Steve clearly understood the risks that entails.
Because Hydra, which controlled the governments of many countries, had turned his damn best friend into a living weapon!
Steve saw what happened to Bucky. Bucky was sent wherever they wanted him to be sent, to do whatever they wanted him to do. The Winter Soldier was a superhuman fully controlled by the government elite, who followed their orders, intervening wherever they sent him.
Steve saw it.
And Steve knew that none of them would ever be privileged enough to get away with breaking the Accords unpunished if they did. No one except Tony, who was a privileged multi-billionaire who would always be able to buy his way out of anything…
Yes. Also don't forget Ross has a very specific history with Bruce. Asking about him specifically is thus - interesting.
Actually IIRC there's a scene after Rhodey's injury where Tony asks Natasha about finding Bruce and she says "you really think he'd be on your side?"
She's right. If Bruce had been in Civil War he'd 100% have been Team Cap simply because of Ross.
But yes, I agree with the rest. Tony Stans are the most sanctimonious, holier than thou obnoxious elitistss you could ever encounter. Simulaneously simping for billionaires and trying to pretend to champion common people.
I need to press his bruises like it’s his gspot
i love the long hair and all but consider this: the fluffiest buck
Some alpine and Bucky for the soul
Steve who was incredibly touch-adverse when he was younger. Steve who grew up constantly being poked and prodded at by doctors and nurses, with a physically abusive dad, with a chip on his shoulder about needing to be strong on his own. And Bucky, naturally touchy, who grew up with a family of sisters. All of them are clingy and loving. Bucky, who learned how to braid hair, how to take care of small children, how to give the best hugs.
And Bucky knows Steve doesn't like touch, and that's fine. Bucky can show his love in other ways, but god. Sometimes he just wants to pull Steve into the biggest bear hug. Bucky finds excuses when he can. He's always slinging his arm over Steve's shoulder, nudging him and pulling him along. Bucky whos always trying to find some excuse to touch Steve. Steve, waking up in the 21st century incredibly touch-starved. He's living in a society where platonic touching is more common than ever, and the only person he wants to hug isn't there. Steve in the 21st century, who's always giving his friends hugs, who'll braid Nat's hair when she's reading next to him on the couch, who'll join cuddle piles without any hesitation. And then- and then-
Bucky is back. Bucky is back, and the second Steve moves towards him, weapon down and palms open, he flinches. Bucky, who was always the one to initiate touch, now barely able to handle being in the same space as other people. And Steve understands it. God, does he understand it, but it hurts. And he can't help but wonder if this was how Bucky felt when they were kids.
anyway. yeah.
the aroace read of ryland grace is so personal and haunting. "you don't even have a dog." was it not enough to love the world for the sake of living in it. was it not enough to live for the thrill of discovery. was it not enough to smile at your students. was it not enough to be afraid.
The fact that, after that blow up, Whitaker still went out of his way to defend Langdon in this conversation, when the only other person he did that for was Trinity, is really meaningful
I can’t stop thinking about those life timelines…
The reason people were saying don’t forget fandom history isn’t because anyone thinks Stucky is the oldest MLM ship, or the biggest MLM ship, or the only MLM ship of its time. It’s because it was 2014 and gay marriage was still illegal. It’s because it was 2015 and MAGA was flying everywhere. It’s because it was 2016, people took to Twitter and trended #givecapaboyfriend. Mere weeks later, comics Steve Rogers was written into a Nazi.
It’s because it came at a turning point not just in superhero history but American history. MCU Steve Rogers was a return to a more sincere worldview after two decades of grim dark cynicism. The MCU, previously the domain of (mainly cis white) dudebros — you only have to look at the way Nat and Peggy were written in the early movies to know that women and other minorities, whether as characters or audience, were a distant afterthought — has gained traction with the mainstream audience. The advent of social media and internet accessibility meant a blossoming abundance of fan content that previous generations didn’t have.
This coincided with a time of intense ideological clash between progressive and conservative voices. Unlike what dudebros say, very few people believed the MCU would actually give Cap a boyfriend, but it did squarely place Captain America on the side of the LGBT community. Up until this point, MCU Steve in both canon and fanon has often been portrayed with hazy nostalgia for “the greatest generation” and the white picket fence dream. The hashtag trend was a reclamation of a character who was written by a minority, whose origin was a marginalised group for his time, and whose moral code was always supportive of people sidelined by history.
There will always be older ships, bigger ships, “more canon” ships, but you’ll never get another ship that rode the nexus of social media growth, genre popularity, LGBT recognition and political tug-o-war to breach containment the way Steve-Bucky did.
Don’t forget the history of #GiveCapABoyfriend, the BBC Steve-Bucky fan video, the “of course it’s a love story”, the “we went a little Brokeback” and the “Bucky is his home”. All of these were acknowledgement of the sheer size and international reach of the fandom. With a character many people thought of as the face of conservative America, it brought gay romance into the mainstream consciousness…and yes, without Steve-Bucky and several other concurrent massive MLM ships laying down the ground work, many of the newer canon gay romances would not have been green lit by profit-hungry studios.
