I saw a post about Billy Hargrove's blackened veins resembling cracked porcelain, and my immediate reaction was

Clip Studio Paint 4 for most of the painting, Photoshop for colour adjustments and tweaks. Finally got PS back, but I'm still enjoying painting in CSP more, just for the colour blending honestly.

And my trusty Wacom Intuos 4 tablet, which, happy birthday to it, recently turned 16 years old. Amazing value tbh.

Took about 6-7 hours? I've been trying to do slightly rougher work, partly because I don't want to over-render everything, and partly because I have 5 unfinished works from the past few months. The ADHD problem of getting bored once I'm 90% done has really been kicking my ass, so I'm trying to find a way to finish things quicker and be less perfectionist.

Oh yeah and I finally watched Stranger Things! Infuriating show with incomprehensible messaging, but great character concepts and actors, so of course I came out of it with a new blorbo.

billy hargrove is not clingy.

well…not in public. not around the kids. not around joyce or hopper. not around anyone who might dare to comment on it.

in public he’s all sharp edges and crossed arms and “don’t touch me unless you want to lose a hand.”

but in private?

well it took a bit of time, but in private he’s a koala.

the second the door closes behind them, something in him just… drops. the tension in his shoulders, the guarded look in his eyes, the whole “i’m tough and nothing bothers me” act disappears completely.

steve barely has time to take off his shoes before billy is on him.

arms around his waist. face tucked into his neck. whole body pressed against him like he’s trying to fuse them together.

steve pretends to be surprised every time.

“wow, someone missed me.”

billy grumbles into his shirt. “shut up.”

but he doesn’t let go.

ever.

steve moves around the house with billy attached to him like a very warm, very stubborn backpack. billy would follow him into the kitchen, into the living room, into the hallway with arms still around him, chin hooked over his shoulder, refusing to give him even an inch of space.

and steve loves it.

he loves the weight of billy leaning on him. he loves the way billy’s fingers curl into the fabric of his shirt. he loves the quiet little sigh billy makes when steve runs a hand through his hair. he loves that billy trusts him enough to be soft.

sometimes billy will flop onto the couch first, tugging steve down with him until steve is basically lying on top of him and he’d wrap his arms around him, tight, like he’s afraid steve might disappear if he loosens his grip.

steve loves resting his head on billy’s chest, listening to his heartbeat as billy strokes his back in slow, absentminded circles.

“you’re so clingy,” steve murmurs.

“no i’m not.”

“you literally haven’t let go of me for an hour.”

billy shrugs, tightening his hold. “i’m comfortable.”

steve smiles into his shirt. “you’re so cute.”

billy groans. “don’t start.”

steve just kisses over his shirt where his heart is.

and at night… that’s when billy gets the clingiest.

they get into bed and billy immediately pulls steve into his chest, arms wrapped around him like a shield. sometimes he hooks a leg over steve’s too, just to make sure he’s not going anywhere.

steve teases him for it and billy just mumbles a half-asleep, “whatever” but steve loves these sorta cuddles.

because billy clinging to him isn’t neediness, it’s trust. it’s safety. it’s the quiet, unspoken truth that billy feels most at peace when he’s wrapped around steve.

and steve?

steve holds him just as tightly.

because he loves being needed. he loves being the one billy reaches for. he loves every second of being billy’s safe place.

and if billy wants to cling to him all night?

steve will happily let him.

But what if Steve made the top on his old Scoops uniform into sleeveless vest, to go to a hollowness party as a "sexy sailor" to seduce Billy? What if they had only met in college? And Steve is just a baby bi, in his first gay relationship... with Billy's roommate. Whom Billy hates because he's a massive chad and always humping with his ditzy boyfriend like a bunny rabbit. It's so bad Billy has started ignoring the sock on the door because he isn't paying tuition to not use his own goddamn room. It's got nothing to do with wanting to be around Steve whatever chance he can get. And what if Steve thinks Billy hates him cause he's always so rude when Steve is over, but whatever the D is good enough to put up with his boyfriend's asshole roommate.

But then Josh dumps Steve cause he's a prick and insists he was just going through a "phase" and starts dating some chick. And Steve's pissed, but Robin helps him see that he was way more into the sex than he ever was Josh and this was his first "liberated" relationship, and maybe the answer is to just cleanse his pallet with some good old fashioned revenge sex and move on. And Steve immediately is like, "So I should sleep with Billy? Great Idea Robin!" Because Josh will hate it and also, he woulda climbed Billy like a tree ages ago if it wasn't for the boyfriend.

And even though Robin totally meant he could have a fling with anyone BESIDES he's ex's roommate, Steve is committed now and ropes her into helping him complete his mission. Billy doesn't like Steve any more than he likes Josh, or so Steve thinks, so he figures he's gotta warm him up to the idea with some liquor and a little skin and the annual Halloween bash at the frat house presents the perfect opportunity.

Steve and Billy running from a demodog pack and Billy slapping Steve’s ass and telling him to “use those pretty long legs.” Yeah he’s in danger but you miss every shot you don’t take.

I meant that Steve is less appreciated as a character in a pairing, whether it's Steddie or Harringrove, even as Dustin's friend

This is what I came across, but perhaps some of the statements were joking, I'm not sure 😅

Ah, I see. I haven't encountered that too much but it's out there. It happens naturally that people sometimes are drawn to or identify with one character stronger than the other, and they are into the pairing primarily for that one character. But I have never understood the point of looking down on or disparaging one part of the pairing. I just get stuck on how is that fun for you???

But there you go. It is a truth everyone should acknowledge that some people just want to feel superior about something, and if thinking your blorblo is the best thing since sliced bread and every other character should be OH SO LUCKY to worship the ground they walk on and just exist in the same story as them, is what gives you a sense of importance - have fun with that. We will not be hanging out. You know?

I love Steve and I know a lot of folks who do and create great stories for him. So I'd keep my chin up anon.
