Repost from @david.e.womack • 01 October is World Vexillology Day! Vexiday is an international celebration of flags organized by participating flag studies organizations in many countries. Here is a little pop quiz on the US Flag Code for your #vexiday amusement! Is each statement True or False? Can you get all 10 correct? 1. When hanging a flag horizontally for display the union or canton (blue field of stars) should be on the viewer’s left; when hanging it vertically the canton should be on the viewer’s right. 2. The flag should be flown at half staff on Memorial Day from sunrise to sunset. 3. Rules and customs of the flag can only be changed by an act of Congress. 4. The flag should be dipped to honor a person of high rank such as a visiting President of another country. 5. When a new state is added to the USA, the flag is updated with and additional star upon the state’s date of admission to the union. 6. When displaying the flag on a stage or platform with a speaker, the flag should be on the speaker’s left (the audience’s right). 7. The flag should never be flown upside down. 8. Veterans should put their right hands over their hearts and not salute the flag during the Pledge of Allegiance as military members do since they are no longer serving. 9. The flag should be raised slowly and ceremoniously; it should be lowered briskly. 10. The American flag is always flown higher than another nation’s flag when they are flown alongside of each other. #vexillology #funwithflags #vexiday https://www.instagram.com/p/CjMmHLWO1PP/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
