MCU fic: Buratino

I really like the story I wrote after Captain America: Civil War to make sense of the otherwise nonsensical mid-credits scene. It’s one of my favorite shorter MCU stories. But while it holds up remarkably well in light of Black Panther, it’s missing a crucial element: Shuri. I was strongly discouraged from doing a Shuri Is Awesome Remix of that story, so instead I wrote a new one. It was supposed to be a drabble-esque thing like this one, but I did not earn that Prolix Lass title by resting on past laurels.

31k words | Bucky Barnes, Steve Rogers, Shuri, T’Challa, Ramonda, and a lot of cameos and OCs. 

“They can’t fix me,” is how Bucky answers the question, which is not exactly what Steve is asking, but that’s what’s paramount in Bucky’s mind.

The longer explanation is hard to get out and frustrating because Steve keeps interrupting to question whether Bucky heard things correctly.

“You don’t always hear what is actually being said,” Steve retorts after Bucky shouts at him for it. “You know that you do this!”

“Well, this time I’m not,” Bucky assures.

Steve drops it, but he might have been humoring Bucky because he reacts like he’s been shot when Shuri confirms it a few days later. Bucky takes Steve with him to the appointment Shuri set up to do some brain wave monitoring (or whatever it actually is, but that’s how she explains it to him) and tells her it’s okay to talk about whatever in front of him. It’s what she has to say that’s not okay and Steve can hear it straight from the source.

“They’ll figure something out,” Steve says once they’re back in their apartment. He sounds like he believes it, but his face says that he knows how little that will help.

A Re-Con Essence: Avengers (Leverage AU)

Nick Fury is the security advisor to SHIELD Corporation and CEO Alexander Pierce’s best friend. When Pierce informs him of a potential take-over due to stolen plans and secrets from the company, Fury comes up with the idea of stealing them back. He gathers exceptional people from the unspoken fields to form a unique team of cons led by Captain Rogers, a good man out for revenge from Hydra International for his past. When Fury discovers a dangerous twist to SHIELD’s situation, he is taken out and the team he brought together is put in danger. In the face of threat, this team of loners and cons decides to fight back. To con those who conned them. One win leads to the idea of doing more and the cons decide to use their skills for something more than just money. They decide to avenge those who have been conned by the powerful. They decide to be the Avengers - criminals with an essence of justice. After all, a little re-con hurt only those who deserved to be hurt, right?

I told you all that I would do an Avengers version of Leverage :P
